My mother was referred by her PCP to see Elaine Kung for her dermatological needs. I kept thinking to myself, where have I heard of this name? Then I remembered. I brought my son to see her years ago when he was a baby. I already knew the issue he had was mild to moderate eczema, but I needed confirmation of that and a written prescription. The look she gave when she saw his eczema, one would think she has never seen eczema before. Aren't you a dermatologist? Did you buy your license off of a black market? Seriously. She nearly fell off her chair, stepped back a few feet, and made a face like my baby was disgusting. She was completely unprofessional, unhelpful, rude, and spoke like a bratty teenage girl. This quack sucks as both a human and a doctor. And to solve the problem on that eczema, she suggested that we buy some over the counter crap. It's mild to moderate eczema. My baby was itchy and scratching like crazy, and this is what you suggest? Dr. Kung has the most caring bedside manner and walks you through each step of the process. I have been seeing Dr. Kung for a few years now for regular skin cancer scans as well as Botox. I find her to be very knowledgeable, easy to talk to and a good listener. Dr. Kung noticed an unusual bump on my upper arm, she knew immediately that it was skin cancer and removed it the same day. She also does excellent Botox. Dr. Kung's staff is helpful, pleasant and professional. Dr. Kung recently moved into a bright modern new office which I visited recently, the overall experience was a pleasure start to finish. Dr. Kung & Her staffs are very helpful in all aspects. Dr. Kung has fought vigorously with my insurance for the approval of Eucrisa cream. My daughter, Ivanka, has tried many steroid creams for her eczema condition. It just damaged her skin. While waiting for approval, Dr. Kung provided samples of Eucrisa to use. Finally, insurance has approved. For myself, I have cheated on Dr. Kung past couple years to see other dermatologists for my right thumb wart. The wart appears to be the same and has spread to my right pointer. I decided to return to Dr. Kung seeking treatment. My return to her implies that she is the best and very knowledgeable in her field. My right pointer's wart starts to disappear, and right thumb shows progress. In addition, Dr. Kung always have friendly conversation such as asking about my kids. Dr. Kung and her staffs are multilingual to meet patients language barrier. I would have given Dr. "Six Stars" but only "5-STARS" because she talks without smile. Dr. Kung smile would have made her look a lot prettier...LOL. Sense of humor. They close at 6 but I was told I have to arrive by 4:40 pm if I want to see the doctor. I was not seen by Dr Kung until 5:29. 3 patients went in before me. Did they wait an hour or was everyone being overbooked? 59 minutes wait is not acceptable especially if I was told to arrive by 4:40 pm. I had to leave work early just to waste time listening to cellphone calls, snoring patients (the wait is so long the elders fell asleep waiting) and gossips from receptionists. The waiting area is shared by Dr Kung and the Asian Diabetes Center. There is a sign that says "no noise" and "no cellphone" lots of waiting patients are in their cellphone. The receptionists for the Asian Diabetes Center are hidden behind the high partition but talk, chat and laugh very loudly nonstop. See the assistant who asked me questions. Then waited for Dr Kung who showed up at 5:55 pm. 1 star is for ease of booking appointment (but it would be easy to get an appointment if they overbook everyone). 1 star for the friendly receptionist. 1 star for Dr Kung who was superb. I was referred to this place by my pcp because I wanted to see a specialist (dermatologist) regarding my Eczema problems. I have this pimple on my back that was annoying me on top of having Eczema so I asked her about it. She told me to show her eczema-troubled areas on my body and when I showed her some on my waist, she had the nerve to mumble to her assistant "Do you know what her skin reminds me of? ____" and then laughed by herself. At the end, she recommended all the lotions that I already have so she was not helpful at all. This rude idiot might be a dermatologist but she certainly needs someone to teach her manners. She is very unprofessional. She thinks she's above everyone else while a quick internet search will lead you to a page of Miss HK Pageant year 2000. No wonder she didn't win, no one likes a rude, big mouth brat. You don't need a mean fart to ruin your day! Go to another dermatologist who is dedicated to help people relieve their skin problems instead of someone who pokes fun at your misery. During this Covid19, I was able to schedule an appointment for a virtual consultation which was great since I did not want to leave my house. I started to get this face and hand rash that I desperately needed some relief and help. We sent a few emails back and forth before the consultation with her asking some questions regarding my skin and products I was using. Dr. Kung was very informative, explained everything in depth and gave some suggestions. She also prescribed some creams that I can use until i get my patch testing done. I do not recommend Dr. Kung for hair loss advice/treatment. Perhaps she more knowledgable on other skin problems, but I still would not recommend. It was truly a waste of time for me. I made an appointment 2 weeks in advance and yet I waited over one hour and 15 mins. Upon checking in, the receptionist requested I pay my $40 copay when which I promptly did. (Yes $40 is quite a bit for a 24 working year old but hey, what can you do). After that, I literally sat and waited and waited and waited. I wanted to leave multiple times but I kept telling myself that I've already made the trip out (took over an hour train ride each way) and plus I already paid $40. When it was finally my turn, the assistant took me into her office and asked me some questions. She was nice and I told her my concerns regarding visible hair loss that started 3 months ago. I told her I thought it may be from stress so I started using hair loss shampoo that my hair stylist recommended. However, after less stress from work and a different shampoo, my hair loss did not stop. Not only did my hair stylist comment on my thinning hair, so did my boyfriend, parents and coworkers. I knew something was wrong - what is exactly wrong? I still do not know. Google states it's either stress (no), hereditary (probably not) or hormonal change (I guess since it's the only reasonable answer left). Dr. Kung's only advice-try using another hair loss shampoo. She did not examine the follicles of my fallen hair, she did not ask or offer to take a blood test for hormones, she did not offer any lifestyle changes nor any substantial medical advice. I remember asking her if I was really losing hair from a medical standpoint and she stated she couldn't confirm it because she has never seen me prior and doesn't know how much hair spacing is regular for me. Ok, that's seems reasonable. I then told her my top and sides seemed whiter and she confirmed there's more spacing there. Thanks? My mom could've told me that - for free, anytime. In the end, the whole visit was a waste. Wasted 3 hours on top of 40 bucks and oh, the shampoo she prescribed was the over-the-counter Rogaine. If you google hair loss shampoo, that's the first thing you see. So anyone with hair loss, just go to you local drug store and pick up Rogaine. Save the trip, save the copay, save the hassle. read more

Absolutely fantastic service! I had originally came in late 2019/early 2020 because my old dermatologist kept saying I had fungal acne and ecemza, so they prescribed a bunch of different medications that made my skin look as though it had a blotchy red rash in patches all over my face. After coming to Dr. Kung, I felt like I was finally being listened to and that my concerns were addressed. I did not have to wait long to be seen and the paperwork was handled very quickly. She simplified the medications and identified the causes of the problem, and even showed how much medication I should be applying in select parts. I was given very clear and thorough instructions. After COVID-19, I was able to schedule a virtual appointment the day of a call, and Dr. Kung even asked for my routine and different photos of my problem areas. Even though there were technical issues, she tried her best to resolve it and gave great advice. She updated my routine with suggestions & why I should change products, and answered my questions. Dr. Kung is a very competent, knowledgeable, and efficient dermatologist. She's a straight shooter who differentiates between the essential and the unnecessary, and will tell you what the best course of action is. She doesn't have the warmest bedside manners, but then again, I don't need to be coddled by my doctor. The nurses are excellent, patient, and knowledgeable. They take the time to explain and answer any questions you may have. The receptionists are sweet, efficient, and multi-lingual. Visits are typically by appointment, though I haven't had a problem with walk-ins. Wait times are generally about ten minutes to half an hour. The office could use a bit of updating, but that's irrelevant to the quality of medical care. read more

Dr. Kung has been my primary dermatologist for about 6 months - and I must say that I am impressed enough that I will consult with her for any and all future skin issues I have. I was previously with another derm but switched to her after a few sessions. I heard about Dr. Kung through my GP and another specialist, who both gave glowing recommendations. To give some context, I have very sensitive skin and grew up with eczema. I had recently been admitted to hospital due to a persistent and acute rash & hives that severely worsened my quality of life. I couldn't sleep because I kept scratching, and it got so bad that I didn't sleep for three days straight. I was seeing another dermatologist at that point in time and switched to Dr. Kung after my hospital visit. The first thing that told me she was an excellent doctor was that she was spot on with her diagnosis of my skin conditions. I had a scab on my head that wouldn't go away and would bleed in the night. My other Derm thought it was an infection, but the scab was actually the result of strong irritation of the skin. Dr. Kung immediately recognized this and gave me the correct medication to alleviate these issues. The second thing I noticed was that the medicine she prescribed was extremely effective in addressing my conditions. My other dermatologist had given the right diagnosis of why I was experiencing an extreme itching, but the medicine he provided was not strong enough, and so the condition persisted until I ended up in the hospital. I attribute my quick recovery to the medicine Dr. Kung provided. All in all, I cannot recommend Dr. Kung and her staff enough .They are both professional and extremely competent. I am very thankful for their hard work and help in getting me back to being healthy again - you don't realize you take your health for granted until it is no longer there. read more

The doc's first question was ' how much do you have left in your insurance this year?' she would try to claim as much as she can and then prescribe cream/drugs that doesnt even apply to you. we got a cream for over $700 for no reason and it didnt even work. Had to go to another dermatologist and they advised the cream is for cancer and obviously i didnt have cancer. Very unprofessional and all scams! Saw Dr Kung for mild acne issue and she was extremely immature and unprofessional in her bedside manner. The superb reviews brought me to this place and I was quite frankly shocked by the disparity. I was shocked to see the Zocdoc reviews which I wonder if they are written by interns. She acted like a teenager and was not thorough at all. She cuts you off and doesn't offer any good advice. I was given a card for Dr. Elaine F. Kung , I now consider that my lucky day. I had been looking for a dermatologist for quite awhile but had not find anyone I liked or could bond with. After checking in and meeting her staff I can say my search is over. She is everything I want and more. It is wonderful to have a doctor you feel really cares , staff are wonderful. My skin was in bad shape , I had been on self -quarantine due to Covid19 alert, I was just coming out of house again. I had many types of things growing , she needed to zap skin tabs and there was a blackhead really, really deep I needed to have taken care of. I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Kung who took time from her vacation over Memorial Day holidays last weekend to help me. Previously I had seen two CityMD doctors who were unable to correctly diagnose my skin issues (urticaria) until seeing Dr. Kung. She was able to accurately prescribe medication and a regiment tailored to my petite frame in a super efficient manner. Dr. Kung is very respected in the medical community, by her peers and her patients as ZocDoc reviews shows. I am not sure why there is such a disparity between Yelp and ZocDoc? I love Yelp for finding good eats but recently am very disappointed in the inaccuracy of other business reviews because I'm missing out on potentially good businesses with Yelp's strange review boosting algorithm. Update at the bottom. 1. I'm a black woman with medium-dark skin. I was hoping to get advice/treatment for discoloration and hyperpigmentation. Not the case at all. When it came time to address the discoloration around my mouth, I was told that "because I don't have as much 'baby fat' as I used to, my laugh lines have become more pronounced resulting in the 'optical illusion' of darkness." and then Dr. Kung proceeded to suggest it could be fixed with fillers...(By the way, I am 24 years-old) She completely dismissed my concern saying that there was no "true discoloration" and then began the explanation about optical illusions. No questions about when I started seeing the discoloration. No suggestions for a skin care regimen or products or after-sun care, nothing. 2. This was during a scheduled annual screening and I was expecting to have a full-body skin exam seeing as this was my annual and my first time seeing a dermatologist. This did not happen at all. The only issues/areas addressed were the ones I specifically had questions about. (Some of these concerns were better suited for different physicians which I understood). UPDATE: I should add that Dr. Kung addressed my other concerns thoroughly. Some of these concerns were for other types of physicians and she was helpful in suggesting how to move forward with them anyway. Also, she did politely follow up with me promptly after my review and gave some product suggestions. Side not: Severe (Acute) Dermatitis runs in my family (filled this out in family history) and the doctor nor the assistant brought this up which I find peculiar? Don't know. Though the appointment started on a good note regarding the issues not meant for a dermatologist, I left feeling like minimal solutions were accomplished in the area of her expertise. read more

I only saw her once so I can't say how knowledgeable she is in the field, and even though she doesn't come off as the most colorful rainbow kind of person, as long as she gets the job done, I don't really care. BUT that's where the problem was... I coincidentally got a metal splinter on my finger (very tiny but painful) the day I was seeing her. I asked if she could remove it (which dermatologists should be capable of) since I was there, and I was surprised to see how unequipped the office was. 1) There were no surgical lighting, no head light, just dimly lit consultation rooms? Which is strange because dermatologists typically do a lot of procedures in the office. Instead she carried a magnifying glass that had a flashlight... in her pocket! And every-time she needed to take a look, she'd take it in and out of her pocket. Which brings me to (2) there's no table/tray. Nowhere to put the instruments, the pocket flashlight magnifying glass thing, etc. Assistant holds everything, doctor grabs things in and our of pocket... aye... (3) They use over sized gloves, the see-through clear ones... not the normal latex or nitrile gloves?.. I don't mind the material but why over-sized? Doesn't that get in the way?? (4) I thought dermatologists nowadays use loops or something more convenient.. not a handy magnifying glass that takes up one hand while you're doing a procedure =T ***LASTLY... she never got the splinter out!!!!! She left a little piece in my finger and I was in pain for the next two days and I was unable to get it out myself because of how deep it was (trust me I tried for 3 hours and tried cutting off my skin too). Went somewhere else and the derm. got it out in less that 5 seconds with proper equipment. T_T So much for being a "Yale" med graduate lol. Otherwise I guess she's knowledgeably but I def. would not go there to do any procedures. Maybe nothing wrong with her own techniques/handiwork but her office is not well-equipped. I asked if she was going to put gloves on to exam him. She responded in a condescending tone, it wasn't necessary, she could see clearly from where she was sitting (more than five feet away). But I went there because I got referral by my primary care whom I trust. So thought I just tried my luck. Well.. bad decision. I confirm the negative comments on vitals.com are true. This Dr. is unprofessional, unfriendly, snobbish and disrespectful. She let her nurse does pretty much the MD job, interviewing and mini diagnosing my symptom. This Dr. will be in and out so quick. So one of my rugrats had a wart on their feet. It actually sprouted and into two seperate warts on the same index. made an appointment to see Dr.Kung. The wait wasn't too bad. Filled the out the paperwork waited and bout 10 minutes we got called into the room. Dr. took a look at it did what she had to do to the warts. She was rather clinical not too personable. She prescribed some medication. The warts eventually fell off and we have a followup visit coming up. read more
