Tonight we had the halibut as our main with samples of other items and it left us put off and hangry by meal's end mainly because of the gaslighting. I'll explain. We started with the carrot and white bean hummus accompanied by cucumber and crispy focaccia and seed dukkah. This course was followed by a"secret" menu item, the gem salad which we've had previously and had hoped for something else. The third item interesting was also NOT on the daily menu... it was a greenbean dish with ??? because, well, the ingredients and dish didn't match the menu!. When asking about the discrepancy I was told the chef was being "whimsical" and decided to put this together (??!?!!??!) but it was similar the the stated menu item ( broccolini). When comparing the ingredients it didn't jive. I call B* frankly and think it is more of a bait and switch with lesser ingredients at a premium price. This is not the first time this has occurred and I will not be back because I feel it is dishonest. Yes, the food is excellent in taste, good on quality, tiny in portion size if i'm honest and I don't think it should be done. 2/5 or 40% of items served were " secret" items... yeah right. Anyhoo, the main did match the description -halibut- and the dessert(strawberry basil cremee) with extra added olive cake was as described too. The temperature inside can and has varied with each visit. I recommend eating inside if AC is working. Noted also the staff has been less attentive (water refills and adult beverage orders). Growing pains, maybe. Resting on laurels, perhaps.

You can tell the crew cares, even while being completely overwhelmed. Comestibles: 3 stars…read more We took the "back way" home from VT this winter break, a strategy that avoided interstate traffic, but also occasionally situated us behind slow-moving tractors and trucks on one-lane country roads. Overall, we enjoyed the way's meandering charm, especially when we stumbled upon places like Sandy's Books and Bakery in Rochester, VT (which made me immediately think of you, Mercedes). Per the headline, Sandy's is a used bookstore with original, classic, 1960's and 70's era finds from Agatha Chrystie, Isaac Asimov, etc... newer books about foraging, mysticism, and other fun things; locally made candles, soaps, walking sticks, crocheted hats; and locally made food products in / adjoining the cafe. There are numerous rooms on two floors where you can take your time to slow down and enjoy a book. (Fiction, science fiction, horror and mystery are upstairs!) Cafe tables are set up in many of these semi-private reading rooms so you can enjoy a coffee or pastry alongside a good read. Places like this make me swoon and had we not been on the clock, I would've loved to browse for hours and hours. The setup certainly invites that, as do the friendly local patrons. Sadly, we had to peel our children away from smelling each and every homemade soap and candle, and from trying to fence with the beautiful, polished, natural wood walking sticks (pickaxes, our 8 year old called them), and get our food order to go so we could make our an appointment (for race ski sharpening ) in time. What we tried: - Broccoli and potato quiche, made with a gluten free tortilla crust -- delicious and homemade, with tender, custardy egg -- but undersalted by our standards and made with very little cheese. The eggs had an interesting and unexpected faint whiff of vanilla. - Roasted carrot and lentil soup -- soup made with small green lentils was conceptually great, but overly sweet and served with what could've been a wonderful bread roll, but one that was microwaved and inedibly rubbery as a result. We would've enjoyed diced carrots that had been cut smaller than these 2" slices, but that's a preference. - Apple cider donuts -- I'm sure these would've been amazing fresh out of the fryer, but sadly, these spheroids (not rings) of fried dough were dense, oily, and well past peak freshness (two or three days old?) on our Friday morning visit. - Morning glory muffin -- moist, not overly sweet, very good - Cafe au lait -- you're told to fill a mug with pre-made coffee from the dispenser and to come to the counter for the steamed / frothed milk, which was unexpected for me. The coffee on our visit was watery. Baked goods (including cookies of all sorts), looked so lavish and amazing that I'd come again to try other items, but really, it's the overall experience that charms. Food and drink may not be the winning components, but perhaps I don't mind when a bookstore is so darn welcoming and charming. Bookmarking for a return visit.

The Brazilian-inspired vegan cafe is run by the owner (originally from Brazil) and another woman who were both very kind and gave us ample suggestions as well as time to peruse the menu (in French and English). It was very easy to find gluten free options, which I much appreciated. Everything is made to order and made in house, including the vegan cheeses. Service was a little slow due to some staffing issues, but we weren't in a rush and were glad to chat with the owner a bit to hear about her vision for the cafe. We opted to share a smoothie and a sweet crepe, while we each got our own savory crepes. We couldn't resist getting the blue piña commmlada smoothie, which was fruity, not too sweet, and reminded us of blue milk from Star Wars. Our little one immediately grabbed for our glasses, so we gave him a sip and he was big fan, too! As for the crepes, these aren't your typical French-style crepes, but Brazilian style made with tapioca flour and naturally gluten free. Despite having cooked with tapioca flour at home, I wasn't quite prepared for the nearly-bright white crepes that arrived at our table. They encased the fillings like an omelette, but were crisp on the outside and chewy-melty on the inside (more taco like than pancake-like). I haven't had anything quite like it before, but I quite enjoyed. The champignommm et oignommm (yes, just about every dish name comes with extra "m's") was super delicious and creamy. Highly recommended! The Tall Man's BLT Bacommm was fresh but sparser on the ingredients, and the mushroom bacon wasn't very mushroomy or bacony. At the end we shared a car tola à la plante sweet crepe, which we were told was one of the more Brazilian of the options. The combination of caramelized bananas and the tart fromage blanc (a soft cheese kind of a cross between cottage cheese and yogurt) was a delicious conclusion to our meal. There are choices for breakfast and lunch, and we ate there at lunch. The mouth-watering breakfast offerings - blueberry pancakes and custom breakfast sandwiches - will necessitate another visit for another time. While I was craving the curry chicken salad after ordering it off of the specials chalk board, it wasn't available and I was offered the pesto chicken instead. It turned out not to be a favorite of mine, and the rough-cut chicken had gristle and big pieces of skin mixed in. I would have preferred it more shredded. It needed something else to elevate the flavors and add complexity. Halved cherry tomatoes? Maybe a dash of toasted slivered almonds? A little tweaking on this seasonal standard would elevate it into something truly special. A bevy of hot and cold beverages, and a glass case of home-made sweets provide something for everyone. We settled on baked "French toast" cake that we brought home and enjoyed, per recommendation, with fresh strawberries, syrup, and cream. The new owners are warm and friendly, and are pouring themselves into creating a lovely space. We can't wait to return!

The gentleman working there was the greeter, cook and waiter. He was very friendly. The food was delicious. I had the blueberry pancakes and my son had the breakfast burrito. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. I strongly recommend this establishment.
