Hard to find a great PCP in NYC . Dr. Furman is the real deal. Very professional, easy to talk to and always prompt and easy to get an appointment. read more

Dr. Furman has been my family's primary care physician for many years and she is an excellent doctor. I have referred friends and extended family to her practice and, aside from occasional frustration with the front office staff, everyone is grateful to have such a caring, intelligent doctor supervising their care. Dr. Furman's referrals to specialists and follow up/coordination with those specialists has been wonderful. I am a licensed NYS EMT and involved with healthcare foundations, so I personally set a very high bar when it comes to all aspects of medical care, prevention and treatment. I highly recommend Dr. Furman as a concierge physician if she is accepting any new patients. read more

Dr. Furman is a very good, careful doctor and I feel in good hands. Her front office is nasty, unhelpful and dismissive. They do not want to deal with patient problems and make me disinclined to continue with Dr. Furman. read more

She doesn't seem to be able to manage the various tasks required in treating patients and managing an office. I left her for another doctor a number of years ago and the care that I have now is so much better. read more

I went in for a visit a few weeks ago. Received an invoice on which I had a question. Proceeded to call the billing phone number that was listed and I was called back by their billing manager. I believe her name is Prasadi. I don't think Prasadi was having a good day as she was unable to let me get a word in, spoke to me in a raised voice and as the cherry on top hung up the phone on me. I was left with my mouth open as I could not believe what had just happened. I asked to speak to Dr. Furman, as if I were in her shoes I would want to know how my staff conducts themselves. She started by saying that she was busy as she was in the middle of seeing patients. Completely understandable, you're a busy Doctor. Should I call back? This suggestion was ignored and she proceeded by sharing that she does not get involved in billing issues. Also understandable. However reason for my request to speak to you was unrelated to the billing question. Your staff is rude and incapable of having a conversation in which they are being questioned. Instead of remaining calm, letting the patient finish what they have to say, your staff becomes irritated. Not a good trait when you're in the service industry. Dr. Furman continued with making assumptions when she should be asking me more detailed questions about my experience. All and all, if people do not have the wish to improve, there is nothing you can do. Which I think is the case here. Such is life. So I will pay the outstanding balance and move on. Needless to say I will be looking for a new doctor. It is a shame as this was my first visit and Dr. Furman was a referral from my previous doctor of 4 years who was amazing. It is so hard to find a great doctor, so my search continuous. 1 positive from this whole experience. The nurse I had when I did go in was lovely. Very kind and patient. I do not recall her name, but she truly was the only positive part of this encounter. The lack of professionalism at this practice appears to be a trend when I read some of the other reviews listed here. To anyone reading this. If bedside manner and courteous treatment is important to you, do not go here. You will be disappointed. It seems to be more like factory work here. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Alice Furman's for 25 years now, and she is hands down the most caring, attentive, and thorough doctor I have ever been to. She is always responsive to my concerns, patient, and never rushes me. I feel so safe in her care. I've recommended her to so many of my friends and family over the years and they all love her and agree she is the best doctor they've seen. It's hard to find a doctor that you can really trust, and I'm so grateful to have found Dr. Furman. read more

Dr. Furman came highly recommended by another doctor and I saw her for several years, as I have no health issues and I was reluctant to find another PCP despite my strong reservations about her and her practice. The straw that broke the camel's back was my last physical, where I waited in the examination room for half an hour, Dr. Furman made a snide comment when she entered, and she spent all of ten minutes with me. She also told me she would call me when she got my blood results to discuss a question I had and never did, nor did she refer to this issue in her online message to me about my results. Dr. Furman is condescending and arrogant, and I consistently found her staff rude and unhelpful. read more

Finding a new doctor in the Big Apple is a little intimidating. Fortunately, it seems just about everyone from my office goes to Dr. Furman, and she came highly recommended. She's been my PCP for about three years now. Her offices are convenient to anyone near the 4/5/6 trains. Granted, I've never had any major medical issues, but I've always been pleased with her level of care and professionalism. I know that she accepts Oxford insurance but can't speak to others. read more

The staff is abrupt at best and Dr. Furman spent more time trying to sell me on her concierge service than discussing my medical history (when I asked how she handled it when her patients were sick, how she fit them in, she basically said if you aren't on her concierge service you'll wait till she can get to you). Her actual exam was perfunctory and without going into detail, traumatic. Months later I haven't received any info about the testing that was done that day and I keep getting a bill for $25 for an EKG that I didn't ask for and that she didn't ask me if I wanted or discuss possible co-pays. When I left the office they said it was your annual, no payment required. When I called to inform the billing person there about the $25 she was as nasty as Dr. Furman. SO I am being sent to collections for $25 and god help me I won't pay it. She should be ashamed of herself. So - do NOT go to her if you want to be respected. read more

I have used Dr. Furman for over 20 years. She knows my entire family and has always been thoughtful and inquisitive about them as well as about me. Her concern for my well being goes beyond just being a doctor, she genuinely cares for my state of mind as well my health. Her recommendations for referring doctors have been wonderful when I have needed to seek specialists. The office is busy, but if you have to wait, you know you will be getting excellent care from a very bright doctor, who is a good diagnostician. read more

I just got back from my first visit to Dr. Furman's office. The office was very professional, prompt, and efficient. I met with Dr. Furman (not a physician's assistant) and she even stuck around to chitchat a little. The only downside is they don't accept some major insurance policies, and office visits are pricey. But heck, it's Manhattan. read more

Dr. Furman has been my doctor for a very long time and I find her to be so dedicated and thorough, she is very conscientious and is a very good and caring doctor. I have never had a problem with her office staff, they have always been polite and accommodating . read more

Found Dr.Furman to be cold, and she really did not listen to what I had to say about my symptoms. When I called her office as she asked me too they would not put me through to her and gave me an appointment for a month later even though I had irregular blood tests and she had asked me tp call her and wanted to retest sooner. It seems that there is a lack of communication and care Would not recommend her nor use her again. read more

I was her patient for 4 years in the 1990s, and only stopped seeing her because I moved out of NYC. She's one of the finest physicians out there, and I miss her. She and I had some disagreement about Lyme disease, which was much more controversial in the 1990s than today, but I still trusted her judgment. She is open to supplements and alternative methods like meditation and yoga. I'd be her patient again in a second if I moved back. Very recommended doctor. read more

Great PCP. Always on time, efficient, personally follows up on any issues. Great doctor.

I just got back from my first appointment with Dr. Furman, and I can safely say that this is the worst experience I have ever had for a doctors visit, and I will definitely not be going back. I usually do some research before I pick doctors, but this time I was really sick and I needed to see someone in a hurry, so I skipped that step, unfortunately. Let me see - where can I start to describe my disappointment? The office staff are very unprofessional, made me wait just to get greeted, when there was noone but me in front of the reception desk. They were lacking common courtesy throughout the entire time they were helping me, and a couple of times I had to put up with interruptions for personal calls which they took, and I had to listen to them talk to their friends in a very loud voice and over 3-4 minutes, which to me is unacceptable considering that they are helping a patient. After they took all my information, I had to wait about 45 minutes for my name to be called, and when that happened, I was taken into what looked like a business office, where I had to wait another 5 minutes for the doctor to show up. When she came, she asked me several questions and then she said she would examine me, and she took me into another small room, which did resemble a doctor's cabinet. Let me point out that prior to her "examination" noone, i mean no physician assistant or some sort of nurse bothered to take my vitals, so I assume they don't think this stuff is important there. The examination consisted of asking me a few more questions, looking down my throat, and then when I said that I had fever, she was like - oh ok, let me take your temperature then. Extremely unprofessional. Did not answer any of my questions properly, and had a very bad attitude throughout - made me feel very unwelcome and at some point I just wanted to get up and leave. I will not waste any more time writing about this woman, but my advice is, do not make the mistake to go there, find someone who is and behaves like a real doctor. read more
