Had a great time at Funtopia with my kids. So many climbing walls, it was a good time (especially the Christmas theme for the winter). I had the chance to check out their party rooms as they were running kind of a family open house for their Christmas time. Lots of fun challenges for the kids as they put snowflakes and cookies on the climbing walls for kids to collect for a prize. They had a food buffet showcasing some of their food options pizza, pizza puffs, meatballs, chicken tenders. Salad and hot chocolate. The staff was super friendly and good with the kids. Fun place and it lives up to its name!  We took our grand-darling here and who was on her spring break.  I didn't really know much about this place, but she sure did as she had been here for a couple of birthday parties.  It's a great place for the kids to burn off that typical excess energy of theirs.  After she changed our plans for the day, we let her have an hour for $20 and that was plenty.  There's plenty of friendly and well trained young staffers around to help get harnesses on and to tie them off to various stations where they can get up pretty high.  We came at a good time, but I later noticed that the queue for having a kid's harness put on by staffer(s) can get quite long. Besides climbing the heights, their Caving System and Jungle Gym attractions, both of which don't require use of a harness, looked quite fun for the kiddos and ours certainly enjoyed them. Guardians can walk around with the kids to the various stations, and there's no extra charge but they can't participate.  If an adult wants to join in, it's $10 for an hour.  As it was spring break week, it was pretty busy, but not crazily so.  I'm not sure I would want to bring a kid here on the weekend as the wait times for open tie-offs can probably get long I would guess.  As our kiddo had been here before, she already had her injury waiver signed and it's good for a year, so we didn't have to mess with that. read more

Terrible safety measures. My daughter was doing the wall climb and had decided to take a break for just a second so the worker undid her harness. After she told the lady she was ready to go again, the worker forgot to clip her in and my daughter fell al the way down and cut her arm open. Terrible establishment and not to mention disrespect staff. read more

Many towers to climb and you feel safe with the harness. The instructions to remove and add the safety supports on every climb is a bit to get use to but there are two to three people who is always around the floor to assist is helpful. I highly recommend that you get there as early as you can cause the later you get there you can be waiting for your turn as there is many people that came two to three hours after we got there. The cost is reasonable to hours of fun climbing. There are some activities like the giant slide which is an additional $3 to experience. read more

Quite impressed with the offerings this place has. Great place for kids 6 and older to play and burn off energy. There are many different climbing walls, climbing structures and suspended walking ropes. It is a nice change from trampoline parks or indoor playgrounds as kids get to do all sorts of climbing. It is a pretty spacious facility. Each child is put into a harness that at every structure or activity, they will latch themselves to another harness so that they are always connected when climbing. The kids had a blast and it was nice that there is WiFi that I could work. The employees are pretty friendly and helpful as it can be difficult to hook up to the harnesses at each activity. Pricing was $20 for an hour, $28 for 1.5 hours or $34 for 2 hours. You can sign the waiver online as well as reserve a designated time to save yourself time when you walk in. A great place for kids (aged up to 16 years) to enjoy and have fun while engaging in jungle gym-like activities such as climbing, running, and utilizing their adventure skills. There is wall climbing, rock climbing, zipline-like elevated trail walking, a maze to run around, and other fun activities. You can also have parties for kids here by choosing the appropriate package deal that is suited to you. The staff is helpful. They follow their safety protocols to help the kids and their parents while the kids are having fun. Every kid going to play in the play area have to watch a safety video first with their parents. Parents are allowed to follow their kids in the big and open playing area to supervise them. I have been here twice with my family, and my kid had fun both times. I recommend that parents take their kids here for a good, fun time if they haven't done it before. read more

$20 for 1 hour of play. You can pay for more time, but usually 1 hour is enough. There's a staff member to put harnesses on your kids and adjust as needed. Generally, the staff members that hang out in the ropes area are attentive (unlike at Ultimate Ninjas where the staff members are just talking to each other and not paying attention to the kids at all). However, for kids under 6, they will need more assistance with attaching & detaching from the ropes, so parents should expect to follow their younger kids around, but that's what the staff members are there for as well. There can be bursts of crowds, especially during birthday parties, but usually my kids get to try all the stations within 1 hour despite lines at some of the stations. Additional notes: The suspended obstacle course has a height restriction of 52". The climbing area requires kids to remove shoes. The cave requires you to wear a helmet (which they have plenty of), but they're all sticky and SMELLY! We might bring our own helmets next time! read more

This was a quick 1 hour place for my 6 and 3 yr old. The rock climbing walls were so fun for my 6 year old. My 3 yr old was too young for it. He enjoyed the toddler play area. I want to really give this place more like a 3.5. There is a cave area where kids have to wear a helmet. They have a spray bottle but no tissue. I asked someone for a a napkin and was told You spray and kids just wear that while it's wet with all the chemicals in their hair. And she said typically they just let it sit wet overnight for sanitizing and people don't need to clean. This didn't seem right but we cleaned it and went with it. Kids had fun. read more

A couple of updates since my last visit: Single-use restrooms are not appropriate for a birthday party destination. The staff... my goodness. Where do I even begin? A group of three were standing around chatting while four feet away a kid was shouting "Can someone help meeeee?" They couldn't have been more oblivious. Multiple times I had to get someone's attention because they had no idea there were kids needing assistance with the harness connections. I shouldn't have to tell them to do their jobs, and when I do, I shouldn't be given an insolent smirk as a response. It would be inappropriate for me to suggest that a couple of them may have been stoned, so I won't suggest that a couple of them may have been stoned. Nope. One word, Gross. This place is the opposite of clean. Has not been mopped in months. Dust everywhere. Bathrooms remind me of the bars in college. Watched a pile of barf get kitty litter, then WE as patrons had to block it off as kids walked right through the mess. Now imagine those kids going back into the climbing area, which they did. They came back out and swept the mess....and then let it sit there for this lady to take a seat and relax. Oh, then some kid was sucking on the strap to his harness. Climbing area, most kids need to be somewhat supervised. My 6+ year old kids were able to figure out how to latch and unlatch themselves after 2-3 times, some would get stuck occasionally and they had workers everywhere helping before I could even get to them. High ropes course is very doable, but my kids and their friends were a bit scared of the height. Cave area has a requirement for helmets which they provide with a cleaning spray... don't know how well the spray works, but we risked it. Jungle gym was a super fun padded play area. Lots of areas to climb and crawl. Must be 8yo and under to use. Safety: loved how the entire climbing area is padded. My older son would let go and land in the group in a laying position jut because he could. Masks required and reinforced by staff throughout the premises. Lots of hand sanitizer stations throughout, but they smell GROSS! Used my own. I was told the whole climbing area is made with antimicrobial material, and deep cleaned every evening. And it was fairly clean considering how many people were there. Experience: Had my daughters birthday party here today. We have been here before and have always enjoyed our time here. With the new restrictions with food service and everyone In the party needing to be vaccinated, I opted not to have food at the party instead of having the awkward conversation with my kid's friends' parents. They gave me very reasonable options for the birthday party and we ended up extending our gym time and foregoing food service and spending time in the party room singing happy birthday, passing out individually wrapped cupcakes for the kids to take home, and doing a craft. The service was great. Our party host was always available to us and kept checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. She graciously did the orientation/training portion 3 times for late comers and had a great attitude the whole time. Will absolutely go again. read more

love this place. today was the first time my 6 yr old has been here. i guess it was quite obvious and the nicest employee, isabelle was so helpful! Why do the kids get to have all the fun? After striking out with dozens of suggestions of what to do on a Sunday afternoon I got an enthusiastic "YES!" when I suggested Funtopia. However, her smile turned upside down when we got there and discovered we had to make a reservation for climbing time ahead of time. However, we were able to book some time in the jungle gym and caves which made them happy. And snagged a 30 min spot for some climb time for when they were done. 30 min isn't nearly enough because most kids could spend hours working on their climbing, balancing and swinging from the ceiling. My daughter is extremely cautious and has never the kid you'll find on top of the jungle gym at the playground, but here she felt perfectly safe thanks to her harness and I was surprised to see her at the top of the climbing walls. It was a particularly busy day (thanks winter), but they had plenty of friendly staff around to help the kids. And there's so many different climbing activities that we never had to wait more than a few minutes for anything. Once our 30 min were up her and her friend enjoyed a "nutritious" snack of dippin dots (why is every kid obsessed?) and then I ended up buying some more climbing time. By the time we left there we had been there almost 3 hours...my daughter slept extremely well that night! read more

Man...I was blown away by how cool this place was. Came here with my 6 yr old who will climb anything. Lots of obstacles to choose from, so 2 hrs is plenty of time. Space isn't ginormous but it's large enough to spend a couple hours there in the blink of an eye. Other observations: 1) I felt the staff was helpful and always around to help with the harness or answer questions. 2) the rates were reasonable. I paid $20 for 90 min for my daughter and dropped $14 for myself. Which leads to the next point 3) if I had to do it again, I wouldn't pay for myself to join in. I spent so much time running around and helping her get up on things, take pics, etc. Also - I didn't feel the pulley system worked well for 200lb males. Can't explain it, I just know she looked like a climbing expert rappelling down from the top of the walls, and when I tried to do it, it didn't feel so smooth. Maybe other adults have a better experience so take that with a grain of salt if you want. Didn't try the food, so I'll have to do that next time. read more

Even though I joined the First Ascent climbing gym and can belay my 6 year old daughter there on almost any of the walls, she still always prefers Funtopia with the self-directed belay systems. I love how this allows her to empower herself and feel the accomplishment of climbing the walls. This is also a stellar way to tire her out, great parenting resource in the cooler months. read more

Took my 6 and 4 year old here on spring break. I didn't pay for the climbing for my 4 yr old because he didn't want to do it. He spent much of his time though whining about not having anyone to play with in the tunnel and slide area though! My 6 year old however loved it! Once he learned how to do the harness himself he was on the move. He started on the hanging ladder and then I pushed him back so he could see what it felt like to be lowered down. He tried the small blocks too and was able to fall a small distance. After a few tries he was climbing to the top of each wall! He would have stayed for another hour if I had let him. I noticed they weren't too strict on the time. I did see quite a few people running through the tunnels and slides area quite a bit after their time on their sticker had ended. I asked if that was included in the time and they told me yes, so maybe I was mistaken? I did notice a urine smell near the mats too like another Yelper mentioned. It was spring break, but wasn't too busy so I liked that. And the staff was very helpful as they kept showing up right when we had trouble with the harness. My son wants to go back again so we will probably make this a thing we regularly visit when coming to town! read more

Funtopia is a fun place to go to let kids run around and play, especially on a day where its too bad to go outside. I have been to this location in Glenview a few times prior and never had any problems. However, today when we went things did seem a bit off. Perhaps they were a bit understaffed. There is one man who was working and unlatching, latching kids nonstop. However, there was a few employees who looked like they were bored at their job. I would say that the older kids 8yrs and up can unbuckle those latches on the harnesses easily, so they do not require much assistance. Younger children, however, do not have the muscle strength and coordination to do it and need help. I was able to get my kids unlatched. Unfortunately, this does slow down everything and you pay per hour. Today I had a deal through Livingsocial about $19 for two kids. Normally it is about $16 each. Some of the climbing objects, like the sky scrapers get a line. If there is no one there to monitor it, some kids cut the lines. This happened to my son, who is not one to let that fly. Before he flew off the handle, I was there to smooth things over, while the one staffer just stared into space. Lastly, there is a big metal hook in red tape on some of the suspension cords. This hit both my kids in the head and it hurt. If they need to have that it should be covered with some foam (something soft). Overall, My kids did have a lot of fun even with some of the issues. After their hour they played in the playground area with caves for an extra 30 min. It was an enjoyable time mostly and I'm sure they will want to go back. read more

I wish there was one near where I live. In the past 6-or-so years of venturing around many of these indoor playground places, my wife and I've found that they usually always get great rap during initial launch, but slowly degrade due to bad service or lack of equipment maintenance (they start getting disgusting!) I haven't done my research to see how long they've been opened, but the friend who took my family there told me there are a few around town, and they all generally get good feedback. So, based on my two visits (I went back-to-back because.. well, my 8-year-old) I've concluded they still have their sh*t together. They seem well staffed, and the equipment don't seem dirty although some seem worn-out. They have a very limited food and drinks options, but I also hear it hasn't been long since they started serving food altogether. It's also located on a corner of nice outdoor mall, and there's a pizza and gelato place right across from it if you get hungry. When I asked if I could step out for a few minutes so I can grab coffee, they were more than kind about it. As with any of these service-oriented places, I'm sure there will be times they get understaffed, or they have to deal with high school employees who aren't exactly professional about their part-time gigs, which is bound to get some parents of toddlers unhappy. But as long as they can manage to keep these discrepancies to minimal, I think they have a great thing going. Soft-cushioned floors with safety harnesses strapped to kids, where they can roam around and fall without getting hurt? Yes! Sign me up to burn my daughter's energy for an hour or two any weekend!! read more

What a great place to go to get out of the cold (or heat) with your kids!!! As visitors, the check in system is pretty simple. You sign a waiver of liability (in case of injury), you sign in, and then your child gets suited up by a staff member. Just make sure you call (or better yet, go online prior to showing up) because they limit the number of kids who can play at a time. Now this can be viewed in a positive or negative way, but hey! If your kids are playing, you don't want it to be so overly crowded that they cannot partake in the activities. I love how it is timed! My biggest pet peeves is places where an adult shows up when a place opens and literally lets their kids stay ALL DAY. Sorry, not cool. This place does a great job at making sure that the ratio of staff to kids is pretty even. Now- what is there to do here! 1) repelling/climbing walls and such. They are all weighted so you do not need a second person to hold the rope. The piece that clicks into place can be a little tricky, but the staff will help the kids. 2)ropes course above the repelling area for those not scared of heights. 3) jungle gym area that is huge with tunnels and caves and slides. 4) ($3 extra) a giant contraption where kids put in a cloth suit onto of heir clothing and hold on to a bar as they are pulled up parallel against a giant mental slide and then let go and slide down. It's so fun to watch and so worth the extra few $$. They don't sell a lot of snacks or drinks which is fine since there is a water fountain which is FREE! There is tons of parking near by too! This place will be a go-to for us until the kids hit 11 or so. read more

The last time my daughter and I went to this location was when the facility was still modeling the cave section of the jugle gym (which was years ago). We opted for the climbing walls for 1 hr $16 vs the unlimited use of jungle gym $10. My little adrenaline junkie was challenged with varieties of themed climbing walls and small jungle gym with a cave. Kids also get to wear a helmet upon entry of the cave. Plenty of employees surrounding the climbing areas are present to guide and hook climber if needed. Today I brought my 15m old twins & 11 year old. While my 15m olds had a nice time, I didn't feel it was best suited for them. Def geared toward a bit older children -- a blast for my 11 year old! What left me the most impressed was the customer service. I felt they really had the customers' best interest(s) and safety of our children in mind. This evening, an unruly 8 year old and his crazed mother wanted to enter and I'm not sure the details of what led to the outburst but I witnessed the 8 year old violently kick the desk and the mother act irate toward the staff. I was so appreciative and impressed by calmness & professionalism of the entire staff. And also thankful that they did not allow this woman and her child to enter. this place was very fun, there was a lot of cool stuff one thing was broken down because the wire that holds the harness had snapped with stressed me out at first but they had it blocked off so that was good. The only bad thing is that my sister told me that the jungle gym smelled horrible and as I walked near it I noticed that it reeked, and couldn't imagine what it was like on the inside(it's for 8 and under so I could not go in) we also went into the caving systems together and it was terrifying, not only did it reek but I. one part deep down there was no light so we were crawling in the pitch black dark, also it took us 45 minutes to get out and the ropes led us in circles, Maybe it was a scary experience for me because I watched The Decent before I left so I was freaking out about being in a cave but other than that it was a good experience in the climbing wall area read more

My husband and I just had our daughters second birthday here! Anthony our party rep was by our side the entire party, helping, organizing and directing all our guests. We loved that funtopia had everything for kids of all ages, a play pit for the littles, a jungle gym for the toddlers-big kids, and the obstacle course for the biggest kids. Just some info if you want to throw a party here- 1-You can either reserve a private room or shared party space. 2-food must be ordered through funtopia- they offer pizza, wings, and hot dogs. You are allowed to bring a fruit tray, veggie tray and dessert (cake). 3- parties are 2 hrs long 4- they will provide plates, napkins, and tablecloths The kids loved it, the staff was accommodating, and I really enjoyed it. read more

Our second time here. Received a very generous gift card for Christmas and we used it all up today. Both times we booked reservations online and paid when we got there because they don't take gift cards on line. Only credit cards or "cash" (pay when u get there). Pros -Super busy but pretty organized because of time slots that you "reserve". They give each child a sticker to put on their back with the time slot on it so kids come n kids go. But not monitored strictly because we hung out a little past our time an no one really said anything. -Birthday/events are welcomed. -It was totally fun for my 5 year old boy n my 5 year old nephew...for about an hour. Which was fine. Cons -Each thing you want to climb involves an employee that needs to help get the clip onto your child's harness. So you stand in front of the wall you wanna climb with your hand raised and wait for someone to see you and come over to strap you in. My husband just started to do it himself. No one really said anything. -Pay for some things a la cart. $3 for slide 2 times. $5 for free fall drop. And the sticky dark cave but I don't know how much that was. -My 11 year old daughter got bored pretty fast. -Worst thing about this place is major safety issues.
