My husband and I met family to celebrate monthly birthdays. Each family (15-20 people in our group) received their orders one after the other in about 30-40 minutes. It was busy and we understand that. Everyone had finished up with their pizzas so my husband went up to check on ours. He was told it will be another 10 minutes. 10 minutes went by and I went up to check and see about getting a coupon or certificate for our next visit, since we weren't able to eat with the rest of the family. The girl said "we don't do that, it's either wait for your pizza or get a refund". I waited to speak to older woman and she was also "that's the way it is, take it or leave it". I asked for the refund and our pizza was slapped on the counter in front of me. I was confused and asked do I take this now? She said no, you wanted the refund. I sure did and won't be back. One family member said prices have gone up and toppings are skimpy. Another family member said getting a beer is a problem as one certain crew member has to go off into another room to retrieve it. Been going to this location for more than 40 year. After Bryan Rushton passed away, the quality steadily went downhill. It got so hit and miss on quality that we just stopped going. Then the Raytown location closed down. We decided we'd go back and try it again. They weren't even open the night we wanted to go. The night we did get back, the pizza wasn't even close to what it used to be. Extremely disappointed. They've run a great Pizza place into the ground. Truly sad what they've done to this location. Another place I've been to since I was a kid. Great food. Love the Brody Nacho Pizza, it's my personal favorite. The crust is different, than all the Big Chain restaurants, they are family owned. Service is great, & personal. If you want to eat here, you can order over the phone, or walk in. No DoorDash/Uber Eats. They are old school, that's what makes them personal. Our large group had a CONFIRMED reservation however upon arrival, they didn't have our tables available. After talking to the gal up front, she basically said there's nothing she could do. Not only RUDE but not how you treat a customer. We asked for the manager and was told not available. We had to name one vultures waiting for others to leave to obtain chairs and swooped in on a dirty, unbussed booth in order to have room for our party. After getting our own cloth to wipe off booth and move dirty dishes to another dirty table we were able to sit. Due to the different seating locations, it was very disappointing to not be able to eat together. After another one in our group went up to discuss the situation, we did ask for a discount and got a small reprieve. Why did we have ask though when y'all knew the error was on your end? I was looking forward to playing games with kids too but after this first impression, I decided to limit any extra financial support to this establishment. Was the pizza good? I was raised on Fun House pizza in Raytown and have been missing it for a while. When I came back into town, I figured I would try the Fun House on 40 Hwy since Raytown was no longer open. Much to my surprise they were only selling take out because of being short handed in staff. The staff on hand was pleasant, the place was clean, and my order did not take long at all, plus my pizza was perfectly done to my specifications. I was pleasantly surprised. Bottom line: The pizza is delicious. We had planned on getting a bite to eat, out not in. My mom and i were sitting, waiting for our pizza. We gad #81. They called #77. Then, suddenly, there were 3 mom's and a few kids coming through the door. The guys at the counter called #83. The boys were around 10. The mechanical horses were behind us, and the boys practically ran over us to get to the horses. Once they discovered it was free, Holy hell we were stampeded. Then the guys at the counter called #84. They were using a mic, so I knew they'd not called #81. The boys riding the horses almost stampeded again, in my lap. On of them yelled, 'Mom! The horses are free!" right in my ear. My auditory canal had had enough. The guys at the counter called #79. I walked up to the counter and requested our pizza be put in a to go box. After they called #82, they finally called #81, skipping #80. We waited in stampede land for 45 minutes for our medium combination pizza. When I went to pick it up, they forgot the box, which I reminded them. We got it home, it was delicious. I said it before, but next time I'm calling it in. Clientele of parents who can't control their kids, and orders coming out too slow. Service isn't good, and getting worse. Deserves 2 stars. But the pizza keeps me coming back. read more

Our group of "mature" ladies had a great afternoon of pizza -- Bill's Special, you gotta try it -- appetizers -- best onion rings I've had in a while -- after which we took over the arcade and played like we were children again. I've dined in and ordered take out from Fun House for years and the pizza is always very good. They load it up with all of your favorite toppings and that cracker crisp crust is pretty tasty. I always order the Bill's special which has a nice mix of pepperoni, Canadian bacon, olives, onions, etc. We just ordered the gluten free cauliflower crust which comes in medium only, and it was really good. This place is a joke of a business. It's filthy the bathrooms are disgusting. Expect to pay almost as much for drinks as food. No free refills. The food used to be good now it's sub par. The service was horrible and super slow. When my number was finally called to pick up my order my pizza was sitting on the counter while other customers reached over my food to pay. I actually saw someone else's elbow of their shirt touch my food. WhenI spoke to the manager about it he acted like I was being jerk. I did get a refund but no apology or offer for any other food. I see this lady has already been featured in a negative review, but here is another one. Her attitude was as tasteless as the pizza. My family came here with a group of 50+ so we were a large party. As the adults were attempting to order beverages, she was brazen and cold to everyone. I myself was not even ordering beer, but my fiancé did order a pitcher of light beer. She said in order for him to get two glasses we both had to show ID. No problem. I show her my ID, I turned 30 a few days ago and my ID was expired by a few days. She screamed and announced that I was not able to have a drink in that establishment because it was expired and would not give me a mug. . Right after me was a man clearly either 70-80 years old that wanted one. He did not have a driver's license and so he offered her his Medicare card hahaha and she said no! You can't make this stuff up. I sent a friend up to get a mug for me. As I was sitting with my family enjoying my beverage, from across the restaurant, I look at her behind the counter staring at me with dead eyes and pointing directly at me for many seconds. It was weird. We waited over an hour for our pizza and it came out cold, like it was refrigerated cold? It tasted terrible. Long story short don't come here. If you go into the bathroom and you can tell it hasn't been properly or at least half-assed cleaned in a long while then you can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. Upon walking in the door the place smells like a musty old building mixed with grease. This place has the best pizza that I have eaten in the Kansas City area. Yes, I said it. The crust is light, yet crisp, the toppings are applied liberally, and the cheese and sauce are very good. Like any pizza with lots of toppings, I find that I would like more sauce. It seems that the toppings overwhelm the sauce a bit. But I like lots of sauce on my pizza. I found this place because my husband grew up in Independence and he grew up eating here. Unlike some of the places that he remembers from his youth, this place has great food. It's kind of a dive inside, not much atmosphere. When you first walk in, there is a little room on the right with video games and pinball machines. You walk up to the first window and order your pizza. The next window is where you order your drinks. The service was efficient and friendly. We were there on a Saturday night for a birthday party and it was packed. Lots of people come for take-out orders too. There are two of the old-fashioned pony "rides" that used to be in front of grocery stores back in the day. They are free to ride. It is loud and boisterous. But the pizza rocks. This has been my favorite pizza for as long as I can remember eating pizza. I can remember eating Fun House pizza at least as far back as 1979. I started out at the old Blue Springs location (where the Class Reunion Lounge is now). It's where I was introduced to Asteroids, and Space Invaders, and Pac-Man, and Donkey Kong, and all the other great classic video games. I migrated to 40 Hwy after the old Blue Springs place closed its doors and have been loyal to this location ever since. The pizza is different than anywhere else. The crust is not thick, but it is very dense. It forms big bubble that burn around the edges, giving it a nice flavor. The toppings aren't dressed up in any way, they simply are what they are. The beef topping is real ground beef and not the processed pellets a lot of places use. Same for the sausage. I saw at least one reviewer describe the pizza as a greasy mess, and I have to wonder what pizza place they were actually at. Because my only complaint about the pizza here is that it's a little too dry. I generally ask for extra sauce. It's a good idea to default to extra cheese as well. I've never tried any of the other food here, the pizza's so good I don't want to risk ordering anything else. One thing to note: the pizza is best fresh, it does not reheat well. If you do need to reheat it, don't use the microwave or it will be almost too tough to eat. A 350 oven for a few minutes will do the trick. Fun House is the only local pizza that people in other states have asked me to bring to them when I travel. That's how good it is. (If you're wondering how, I asked them to cook the pizzas halfway, then I packed them in dry ice for the journey. The recipients then finished the cooking job using instructions given to me by the staff.) This used to be a cash only place, but they added an ATM a few years ago and started accepting credit cards a little while back. read more

The only reason they get three stars is because of the service. I was there one evening with my boyfriend. We ordered pizza and some beer about 1.5 hours before closing time. However, before we even got our pizza, the music was turned off, the floor person put all the chairs on the tables, and some of the lights were turned off. My boyfriend yelled across the restaurants, "are we disturbing you? the sign says you close at 10." They then turned on some lights. We drank our beer and took our pizza. I think Fun House has some of the best pizza in KC, (their crust is vegan, which was great when I was a vegan) but the service is disastrous. This spot is a throw-back to my younger days. I met some family here for a birthday dinner. It's a dive but it SO works. This is the kind of place you can sit with friends over some beers and a pizza or to take a family. It's dark in here with no windows. Not kidding. No windows.They have the same old plastic ponies for the kids to bop back and forth for a moment of entertainment. We had two pizzas; one large pepperoni and one medium 1/2-1/2 with hawaiian and combo. No complaints on the pizza. No table service at this joint. Patrons need to go to the counter for everything. This can cause a wait at the counter but it is what it is! Nothing fancy at all!
