Carrick-A-Rede - The sticky toffee pudding was so good!

We drove up from Newry to see Giant's Causeway and the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge. While leaving…read morethe rope bridge, we were trying to figure out dinner and an employee there suggested going to the Carrick-a-Rede Bar and Restaurant. We drove into town and weren't sure we were in the right place because there was a different name on the outside and two doors. One led into the bar, which was full, and one led into the restaurant, which was empty. The guy at the bar - turns out he's the owner - invited us in and our family of six took up two of the six tables. It was cozy and there was a fire and we loved it. My son, who's 20, had his first Guinness there and so that's a fun memory. I got the cider, which was amazing. For dinner, we got the creamy seafood chowder, the beer battered cod, the southern fried chicken burger, the 10oz sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce, and ballintoy banger the ballintoy burger. The cod was as big as my son's head and so flaky and delicious. The sirloin with peppercorn sauce was my favorite meal of the entire trip. We also enjoyed the brownies and sticky toffee pudding, made by the owner's mom. It was amazing. This was one of our favorite meals of the trip and such a wonderful experience. If you're in the area, don't miss this place.

It looks like they have a nice dining area and also some outdoor seating with great views but we were in the bar and it was fine. The service was good and the food was as well. Nothing to write home about but it served its purpose.

It took the wait staff a little while to take our order, but once they did the food came out much faster than expected. Decent portion for the price, but be warned there is no dessert menu if that what you are after.

No pretension about it, just good properly made food by people who really care about what they do. The young lady serving us was mega friendly. We were four adults and three kids. Most of the adult meals were great value, pitched at about £8. I was the only steak sandwich order with the remaining adults having beef burgers with choices like bacon added. Oh, I had a delicious pint of Guinness too. This was one of the best steak meals I've had in the last few weeks and the others all agreed they enjoyed their meals too. The pepper sauce served with my steak was absolutely ace and I loved it. Top notch. I also went for a portion of onion rings as my wife had chosen garlic chips with her main so we could share. Once again, the tasty onion rings were ace too. Thick rounds of mild onion and a crisp batter. The steak was superb quality beef. I enjoyed the garlicky chips too. The kids had chicken nuggets and chips. All made from scratch in-house including the kids nuggets. That's the right way to do it. There was a moment of shock for me when I asked for Colman's mustard, which is the greatest mustard in the world and beef as good as this deserves Colman's, and I was told they didn't have it. As I was taking in the enormity of this shocking claim she re-appeared just moments later with a plastic pot of Colman's, so I shelved my plan to burgle a local supermarket and splurged a dollop on my plate. Another plus was when we ordered diet cokes we got the 330ml tins very well chilled. So many places now just pour from two litre bottles with no fizz left. One possible downside but not for us was that they don't sell desserts. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Garlic bread is incredible though the "aioli" tasted like it was just mayo but the bread didn't need it at all. Goujons were good but the bbq sauce didn't taste bbq at all. The pepper sauce was nice though. Star here was the rotisserie chicken: fall off the bone and cooked perfectly. Again though, sauce was mid. Nothing on this menu needs a sauce (except Goujons) but they all come with them! Dishes def stand alone. All that said, the device made the meal!

A great place for a chill glass of wine or Guinness while watching sports…read more I was told by one of the British Open parking attendants to come here to get a drink. I walked up the hill and there it was. Lot of people standing outside on the patio but no seats. I went in to the small bar on the lower level and a very friendly male bartender waited on me. I wandered upstairs to the second level where it was a huge space and had plenty of big screen TVs for the golf. I found the place to be very comfortable and great views of the water. The young guy at the second level bar was nice but a bit of an airhead (the drink was £11 and I handed him £20, he stood waiting for more money and ummmmmmm didn't I give you a 20? He seemed clueless about the money) We had a laugh but prob a good idea to know what the local money looks like! The top level of this place was an amazing view but it was Sunday afternoon and the bar was not open. Has more of a night feel. It's a fantastic building and I enjoyed my visit.
