Stopped by this tavern, because all the other options for dinner were full up. The menu is a little…read moresmall, but it is a "bistro" second and a pub first so I can't knock them for that. It took the wait staff a little while to take our order, but once they did the food came out much faster than expected. Decent portion for the price, but be warned there is no dessert menu if that what you are after.

This bistro place is above a lovely pub in the town centre. It's a bit basically fitted out yet…read morecosy and comfy. No pretension about it, just good properly made food by people who really care about what they do. The young lady serving us was mega friendly. We were four adults and three kids. Most of the adult meals were great value, pitched at about £8. I was the only steak sandwich order with the remaining adults having beef burgers with choices like bacon added. Oh, I had a delicious pint of Guinness too. This was one of the best steak meals I've had in the last few weeks and the others all agreed they enjoyed their meals too. The pepper sauce served with my steak was absolutely ace and I loved it. Top notch. I also went for a portion of onion rings as my wife had chosen garlic chips with her main so we could share. Once again, the tasty onion rings were ace too. Thick rounds of mild onion and a crisp batter. The steak was superb quality beef. I enjoyed the garlicky chips too. The kids had chicken nuggets and chips. All made from scratch in-house including the kids nuggets. That's the right way to do it. There was a moment of shock for me when I asked for Colman's mustard, which is the greatest mustard in the world and beef as good as this deserves Colman's, and I was told they didn't have it. As I was taking in the enormity of this shocking claim she re-appeared just moments later with a plastic pot of Colman's, so I shelved my plan to burgle a local supermarket and splurged a dollop on my plate. Another plus was when we ordered diet cokes we got the 330ml tins very well chilled. So many places now just pour from two litre bottles with no fizz left. One possible downside but not for us was that they don't sell desserts. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Stellar service!! I mean, I don't know if it was intentional but it felt like a floating service…read more We had plenty of waitstaff the kept our drinks full and made sure our orders came out hot! Garlic bread is incredible though the "aioli" tasted like it was just mayo but the bread didn't need it at all. Goujons were good but the bbq sauce didn't taste bbq at all. The pepper sauce was nice though. Star here was the rotisserie chicken: fall off the bone and cooked perfectly. Again though, sauce was mid. Nothing on this menu needs a sauce (except Goujons) but they all come with them! Dishes def stand alone. All that said, the device made the meal!

A great place for a chill glass of wine or Guinness while watching sports…read more I was told by one of the British Open parking attendants to come here to get a drink. I walked up the hill and there it was. Lot of people standing outside on the patio but no seats. I went in to the small bar on the lower level and a very friendly male bartender waited on me. I wandered upstairs to the second level where it was a huge space and had plenty of big screen TVs for the golf. I found the place to be very comfortable and great views of the water. The young guy at the second level bar was nice but a bit of an airhead (the drink was £11 and I handed him £20, he stood waiting for more money and ummmmmmm didn't I give you a 20? He seemed clueless about the money) We had a laugh but prob a good idea to know what the local money looks like! The top level of this place was an amazing view but it was Sunday afternoon and the bar was not open. Has more of a night feel. It's a fantastic building and I enjoyed my visit.

Atmosphere and service are great. Very friendly staff and some cozy corners and unique seating…read moreareas in this establishment. The food was unfortunately on the bland side. We enjoyed the appetizer of Guinness and onion soup and the Inn's bread but they weren't as special as the menu descriptions made them out to be: the whiskey and smoked cheese roll was hard to tell either of those flavors but the butter and pesto were very good. The soup was fine but I guess we had high expectations for it to be better than your average French onion soup. Again for entrees I think the menu descriptions built up our expectations but everything seemed even more bland than the apps. The BAHARAT SPICE RUMP OF IRISH LAMB was cooked well but was pretty flavorless even with the hummus and sauce and the lamb fat potato stack just soft potato. The unique piccolo peppers were the only thing that provided some pop to the dish- maybe it wasn't seasoned properly? The filet with the Bushmills whiskey black pepper cream and roast mushroom tomato and rocket was seasoned a little better but the cream was lacking some punch. Good but not great. It all sounds good but doesn't feel like elevated cooking especially for the price. Finally the desserts were split. We ordered a shot of the Bushmills 10 yr to go with the butterscotch sundae which made the sundae perfect. Without it I'm thinking way too sweet. The milk and honey delice was disappointing. We ate the ganache and left the rest. The crust had a strange herb like flavor that was very unappealing.

This is a beautiful restaurant and the service was impeccable. But it is very expensive for both…read moredrinks and food in comparison to other establishments in town. It is probably why the local folks we met did not recommend it because it was expensive. But overall we had a good experience and cannot complain about the quality of the food or service.
