Stopped by this tavern, because all the other options for dinner were full up. The menu is a little…read moresmall, but it is a "bistro" second and a pub first so I can't knock them for that. It took the wait staff a little while to take our order, but once they did the food came out much faster than expected. Decent portion for the price, but be warned there is no dessert menu if that what you are after.

No pretension about it, just good properly made food by people who really care about what they do. The young lady serving us was mega friendly. We were four adults and three kids. Most of the adult meals were great value, pitched at about £8. I was the only steak sandwich order with the remaining adults having beef burgers with choices like bacon added. Oh, I had a delicious pint of Guinness too. This was one of the best steak meals I've had in the last few weeks and the others all agreed they enjoyed their meals too. The pepper sauce served with my steak was absolutely ace and I loved it. Top notch. I also went for a portion of onion rings as my wife had chosen garlic chips with her main so we could share. Once again, the tasty onion rings were ace too. Thick rounds of mild onion and a crisp batter. The steak was superb quality beef. I enjoyed the garlicky chips too. The kids had chicken nuggets and chips. All made from scratch in-house including the kids nuggets. That's the right way to do it. There was a moment of shock for me when I asked for Colman's mustard, which is the greatest mustard in the world and beef as good as this deserves Colman's, and I was told they didn't have it. As I was taking in the enormity of this shocking claim she re-appeared just moments later with a plastic pot of Colman's, so I shelved my plan to burgle a local supermarket and splurged a dollop on my plate. Another plus was when we ordered diet cokes we got the 330ml tins very well chilled. So many places now just pour from two litre bottles with no fizz left. One possible downside but not for us was that they don't sell desserts. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

We've tried a lot of the menu here as we stayed at the hotel for almost a week. Breakfast comes…read morewith the room so it's silly not to have it, and it's one of only two restaurants up here. The Causeway Breakfast Grill includes everything in an Irish breakfast, lots of protein and a couple bits of carb: sausage, back bacon with a fried egg, chewy potato bread and yeasty soda farl, grilled tomato and mushrooms as well. Other options include pancakes, an okay smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, and surprisingly delicious milky Porridge. There's a Continental Breakfast buffet that's open to everyone, and it has all the staples. Cereal, yogurt, and toast are sprinkled with a sparse selection of fruit, and a few pastries that run out fast. The coffee is awful. I don't think anyone here knows how to make coffee. Make it in your room or just have a nice cup of tea. Most of the food is alright, though, things like the Roast Silverside of Beef Sunday can be quite bland. The beef is tough, the Yorkshire pudding is great, and the Brussels sprouts are steamed to a dreadful pulp. There's a caramelised onion and goat's cheese tartlet that's more like a quiche, filled with fluffy eggs and plenty of creamy cheese, and it makes a nice, light lunch. Fish and chips is always a good option, and the Open Steak Sandwich is my favorite thing by far. The McAtamney's rolled rump is quite tender and the peppercorn sauce is great, with a lot of fresh black pepper for flavor. Afternoon Tea is only for two so if you're dining solo, not only are you lonely, you also don't get tea. It's a fun selection, enjoyed the sausage roll and smoked salmon, and scones are always lovely. The cheesecake is freezer-burnt, but everything else is alright. If you want dessert, the Bushmills Pecan Nut Pie is the only one I tried, and I love it. It's basically a a pecan pie, but that happens to be my favorite pie, and they make a good one. The rooms have no refrigeration so you're mostly eating here if you don't want to drive elsewhere. The food is okay overall, but the prices are rather high compared to less touristy location.

So this is the perfect spot to unwind after braving the treacherous Giant's Causeway... seriously,…read moreif you're not careful you could break a leg. The hotel has a very nice bar and sitting area, and if you're coming in with a group, it is ideal. However, the bar is really just a service bar, so if you're alone, you'll have to deal with sitting at a table, and perhaps taking up more space than you would like... Still, overall, it is a pretty good experience.

We enjoyed the appetizer of Guinness and onion soup and the Inn's bread but they weren't as special as the menu descriptions made them out to be: the whiskey and smoked cheese roll was hard to tell either of those flavors but the butter and pesto were very good. The soup was fine but I guess we had high expectations for it to be better than your average French onion soup. Again for entrees I think the menu descriptions built up our expectations but everything seemed even more bland than the apps. The BAHARAT SPICE RUMP OF IRISH LAMB was cooked well but was pretty flavorless even with the hummus and sauce and the lamb fat potato stack just soft potato. The unique piccolo peppers were the only thing that provided some pop to the dish- maybe it wasn't seasoned properly? The filet with the Bushmills whiskey black pepper cream and roast mushroom tomato and rocket was seasoned a little better but the cream was lacking some punch. Good but not great. It all sounds good but doesn't feel like elevated cooking especially for the price. Finally the desserts were split. We ordered a shot of the Bushmills 10 yr to go with the butterscotch sundae which made the sundae perfect. Without it I'm thinking way too sweet. The milk and honey delice was disappointing. We ate the ganache and left the rest. The crust had a strange herb like flavor that was very unappealing.

It is probably why the local folks we met did not recommend it because it was expensive. But overall we had a good experience and cannot complain about the quality of the food or service.
