Recently Jeremiah Bullied took over as owner chef and I was excited to go see what this travelling, pickling, kindly master of deliciousness was doing with the old Spanish social club. We went last night to check it out and though the changes being made so far are subtle they are a great indication of new life and exceptional cooking happening in the lovely old room looking out over St Laurent. The classics are all still there, just better: the bread is all homemade and is so freaking good. The goat cheese balls are still changing people's lives, the rapini now comes with kale and preserved lemons and is way better than before, and the chorizo is juicier and tastier than it has been in years. We tried the specials, a pumpkin soup with caramelized onions and toasted seeds and it was unlike anything I've eaten before and I want to eat it every day until May. The other special was Southern-friend quail in lemon gravy on pickled brussels sprouts. Everything about this dish was amazing, except I'm not a quail fan, I think it's stupid, but that's just me. The team here is making tiny changes to the room and the menu and I look forward to going back often to seeing how it all progresses. The fresh coat of white paint feels clean and amazing, and the other little tasteful updates to the decor are smart and good looking. Well worth a revisit, go get it!!

We were greeted by a friendly hostess who promptly seated us. Unfortunately, we waited about 10 minutes before our waitress came over to take our drink order. Once the drinks arrived, we ordered several items. * Lamb Chops - Excellent flavor and definitely one of the highlights. They took a little while to arrive and could have been warmer, but we really enjoyed them. * Vegetable Pakoras - Excellent. My wife really enjoyed these. * Dal - My wife thought it was just okay because it lacked some flavor. She brought it home, added some salt, chili, and lime, and it turned out much better. * Chicken Tikka Tandoori - Our daughter is a very picky eater, so getting her to eat chicken can sometimes be a challenge. She absolutely loved this, which says a lot! * Garlic Naan and Plain Naan - Both were very good. Once we were ready to order, the process was quick and easy. Unfortunately, that's also when the service started to go downhill. Most of our food arrived, but the garlic naan didn't come until about 10 minutes later. The butter chicken was excellent, but while we waited for the naan, it started getting cold. By the time our waitress came back, I had to ask her to warm up the butter chicken. This was probably my biggest disappointment. Rather than acknowledging the delay or offering to replace the dish, they simply took the same butter chicken back to the kitchen and reheated it. For a restaurant at this price point, I would have expected a little more attention to the situation. My wife also requested a few specific side items that didn't arrive, and she had to ask twice before receiving them. At the end of the meal, just as we were getting ready to leave, they remembered that we had indicated it was our anniversary and brought us a dessert. Gulab jamun isn't really my favorite because it's very sweet, but I genuinely appreciated the gesture. That thoughtful touch helped earn back an extra star in my mind. Overall, the food was very good and everyone in our family found something they enjoyed. Pricing is definitely on the higher end, but I'm okay paying more when the food and overall experience justify it. The biggest opportunity is the service and attention to detail. A simple acknowledgment of the delays and mistakes from our waitress--or even a quick visit from a manager--would have gone a long way. I probably would have gladly given India Rosa 5 stars. I'm not trying to be overly critical because we did enjoy our meal. It's just that sometimes the small things are what separate a good dining experience from a great one.

The Labneh was delicious - the sweet honey flavoring was delicious and creamy. The muhammara on the other hand was not my favorite, didn't find it super flavorful. For the amount of spread you are given you will definitely need two bread baskets as well. We also tried the ricotta ravioli which was surprisingly sweet and delicious just a super small portion. From the charcoal fired grill we had the octopus which I did really love - It was still chewy with a nice crisp on the outside served over couscous and chorizo that paired very well. My main hesitation for a higher rating is that service was just not good - food took over 1.5 hours to be served and our waiter was really not apologetic at all - almost irritated - which unfortunately overshadowed our experience.
