At this point we were more than content with what we already sampled but committed to finish. The tempura featured prawns, lotus root, lobster and more scallop. And if that's not enough, we were presented with a miso marinated sea bass in a rice bowl garnished with nori, wasabi and pickled daikon. We finished with a divine ginger ice cream, perfect in size , flavor and consistency. The quality of the fish was great, the flavor combinations were unique, and each course was different from each other (I appreciated only one course- with 4 items- was tempura/fried). You can add on additional tempura items at one point in the meal, and you can add on a wine and sake tasting. My favorite courses of the meal were the FIRST "seabass sammie" and the brie tempura (get the add on if it's not included in your menu!!!!) Some of the courses were interactive (I.e. cooking lobster in butter) and made for a cool, fun, and unique experiences. The restaurant is small and cozy (limited seating, so make a reservation far in advance), and both the waiters and the chefs were extremely friendly and engaging (sit at the bar counter). Really enjoyed all of the food, and an opportunity to wear something nice, and to eat something different (than what you're used to in Durham). I appreciated they had 2 other tasting menus, for cheaper prices (one was only $38), and that every tasting menu was VERY different from each other (makes it easy to come back multiple times). Parking was also a breeze since there was a large dedicated parking lot. My salmon poke bowl was tasty, and the fish tasted fresh. I would have preferred a little more salmon and maybe some more toppings, but the bowl also came with a miso soup since it was a lunch special, so that helped :) And they even gave me a free salad! The prices for the lunch specials were pretty darn reasonable. I can definitely imagine coming back here for lunch and/or a date night with my wife.

The restaurant feels moody, upscale and intimate. To start the meal I ordered a miso soup while looking through the menu. For starters we ordered the Crispy Rice (Spicy tuna, inari, kizami wasabi, mustard truffle soy sauce, yuzu tobiko, microgreens & avocado) and the Tuna Nigiri Trio (Akami, chutoro, otoro topped with caviar). Both starters were excellent and these are must orders. For entrees we just split a couple rolls: 1) the Truffle Seared Tuna (Shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, seared bluefin tuna, "O" sauce, soy glaze, masago, chopped chives) and 2) the "M" Special (Tempura shrimp, cucumber, avocado, spicy tuna, seared scallops, shiso, masago, chives, fried shallots, calamansi curd, soy glaze). The chirashi presentation is great, it comes with a few pieces salmon, hamachi, amberjack or madai, akami, a small scoop of ikura on top, they throw in a few pieces that I think maybe hohoniku, base on the marbling and texture. All over a bed of shredded egg and rice. The fish choice is definitely more interesting than other Chirashi I had recently, but the rice got too much vinegar that made the rice flavor overwhelming to enjoy the rice and fish together. My bold guess is whatever they put on the bowl is whatever they have and not used for omakase menu. I think if anyone is serious about Japanese food and don't mind price tag, give a try here.
