We tried this place once a long time ago when they first opened. That was maybe 7 years ago? I think back then we weren't too impressed with them. We had waited quite awhile to get a table and then the portions were puny. Also, I think one of us at the table had found a fruit fly or something like that in some of the food or drink. It was a probably a bad idea to go when it was a newly opened business. Fast forward to now...we had a much different experience this time and were extremely happy customers this time. We ordered the following: Egg Benedict Souffle Pancake with Oyama Sausages Egg Benedicat Souffle Pancake with Avocado Okonomiyaki Souffle Pancake Tiramisu Souffle Pancake Rose & Lychee Soda Hojicha Oat Latte Earl Grey Tea Americano Orange Juice OK...could have been happier but that part was our own fault. Didn't realize they took reservations so we walked in without any reservation on a Saturday morning, had to put our name down on a waitlist and waited what felt like an eternity to get our table. We will go in with a reservation next time. The food was sooo good though. Very quickly forgot about the unpleasantly long wait for our table once we dug into our food. The pancakes were soooo fluffy and jiggly! Especially the Tiramisu souffle pancakes. They were stacked so high and had so much jiggle action. No need to travel all the way to Japan for jiggly souffle pancakes. The ones we have here at Fufu Cafe in Vancouver are plenty jiggly and everything tasted awesome as well. In fact, we've travelled to Japan twice and both times failed to get jiggly souffle pancakes. We had some awesome pancakes in Japan, but never did manage to get any jiggly pancakes. I revisited Fufu Pancake to get Nomsmag ice cream festival limited item. Black Sesame Mochi Kakigori Shaved ice, black sesame sauce, black sesame whipped cream, shiratamako mochj, brown sugar syrup, vanilla ice cream, chocolate cookie crumbles. Black sesame sauce was rich and paired well with brown sugar syrup over the top of shaved ice. At the beginning, I wish ice cream was also black sesame flavor instead of vanilla ice, but, I think Vanilla ice cream balanced the flavor of sauce and syrup, not being overpowering, so, it worked so well. I wanted to come to Fufu Pancake for awhile but every time I would call them on the weekends they would be fully booked so I got a reservation there 5 days prior. It's a pretty small cafe, don't think a big group would be suitable. For drinks I got their lavender latte and loved it because it had a strong lavender flavour (I know not everyone likes that). For food, my favourite was their tiramisu pancake! It was the right amount of sweet and so fluffy!! The flavours were decedent!! It came with ice cream and a syrup on the side which definitely added to it. Their eggs benny with smoked salmon was also pretty good, I loved the fluffy-ness of the pancakes! I was a bit disappointed with the okonomiyaki pancake, it lacked flavour but the presentation was good. Transport me back to a cute Japanese cafe in Japan. This place is so cute and the Japanese cafe vibes really come alive. They decorated really nicely and they even have a viewing window for the making of the souflee pancakes. It was easy to book a reservation for Saturday morning for a large group and the service was pretty good for a small place. They took our order when ready but we did have to wait a decent (not long) for all the orders for 7 people to come out together. The quality and the presentation was good. The flavors delicious. I don't know of any other place to get these pancakes back home so it was a real treat. Highly recommend trying the sesame latte if you are into that black sesame flavor as it was a group favorite. this place has been on my list for a while now. we showed up at 2:00 pm on a sunday, resos secured for a table of four, ready to conquer the fluffy soufflé pancakes...until i saw kakigori. we oohed and ahhed at the menu, it read like a dream. everything sounded ahh-mazing, and the pictures didn't help; they just made choosing even that much harder. truth be told, i'm not a pancake person. but japanese soufflé pancakes, that's a whole different category of goodness. pillowy soft, cloud like, with just the right amount of jiggle. (the secret is separating the egg whites and freezing them briefly before mixing, science and fluff combined, plus a lot of labour intensive whisking and then folding, which i absolutely do not have the discipline nor the stamina for.) i caved and ordered one of their large ice cream desserts, the black sesame kakigori, which came piled high with shaved ice, black sesame sauce, black sesame whipped cream, shiratama mochi, brown sugar syrup, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and topped with chocolate chip sprinkles. the texture was fun and layered, sadly though, the ice wasn't quite as soft and fluffy as i'd hoped. there were chunks of ice chips, and lacked the snowy consistency. scooping the shaved ice got a little messy, but it was nutty, not too sweet, and slightly creamy. i was lucky to get a generous taste of both the seasonal mango daifuku soufflé pancake and the eggs benny with oyama sausage. the mango one came with three stacked soufflé pancakes, fresh ataulfo mango, whipped cream, house made mochi, a drizzle of mango purée, and a sprinkling of strawberry bits. it was soft, bouncy, and just the right balance of sweet, tart and a touch of salt. the savoury version was rich and satisfying, a nice contrast, and worth the 25 minute wait. the café itself is a cute, tiny shop on west broadway, cozy and bright, with a friendly buzz. the kitchen is open and visible from the dining area, so you get a peek into the pancake magic, the precision, and the gentle folding. i was mesmerized watching the staff work with such focus and care. our server was lovely, the water jug constantly topped up, we were offered extra cups, spoons, and plates, to share our orders, and our plates were cleared promptly when we were finished. there was a lineup by the door, but not once were we rushed. this was a sweet, satisfying sunday visit. next time: i'm sticking to the pancakes and maybe watching a little more of that kitchen magic while i wait. read more

Fufu is nomnom. The super fluffy pancakes were great. We made reservations (recommend!) and went during the hot chocolate fest. The chocolate banana hot chocolate was really good and they generally have delicious coffee and tea drinks and great food. I went here for brunch with my friend on a Friday morning and the restaurant was quite busy! We managed to get a seat and we we ordered a drink each, a savoury pancake, and a sweet pancake. Unfortunately, there was no more avocado available at the time, so I got the okonomiyaki soufflé pancake. We were served our drinks first and I thought that the strawberry milk was very refreshing. It did not taste too sweet and the flavour was not artificial (it tasted like they use fresh strawberries)! As for the pancakes, the okonomiyaki pancake was very flavourful and the serving was big. I would eat here every day if I could. Honestly would even consider moving here just because Vancouver has fufu cafe. The fluffy soufflé pancakes are so light and soft that it's not a heavy breakfast at all. The eggs Benedict had the perfect poach and the hollandaise sauce was delicious. I was nervous that a specialty pancake place wouldn't nail the Benedict but they did. The sausage was the perfect amount of sweet to balance the savory eggs Benedict. The pancakes had a neutral flavor so they weren't too sweet or too savory for the dish. The salad was dressed with kewpie sesame and it was such a nice light Sal and to balance the decadent pancakes. The mango sando was so refreshing and just the right amount of sweet. It reminded me of my childhood eating butter and sugar toast but way lighter and refreshing. The matcha strawberry milk was definitely very strong in the matcha flavor but the sweet strawberry was the perfect balance to counter the bitter matcha. Service was excellent and friendly. We asked about the Tamago sando and they said they didn't offer the savory sandwiches today, but they ended up making it for us anyway! We took them home to enjoy and they were absolutely delicious. It pains me to be writing such a middling review because I wanted to love this place. Drink: Flat White Food: Earl Grey Crème Brûlée Soufflé Pancay The space is cute and functional. The area is clean and bright. My server was nice, but she seemed to be running the entire front by herself and seemed overwhelmed even though it wasn't super busy My flat white came out very quickly. It was also piping hot and served in a glass cup without a handle, so I was unable to even pick it up for a few minutes. It was nothing exciting, perfectly serviceable. It took fully 30 minutes for my pancakes to arrive, by which point i was long finished with my coffee. The presentation of the dish was fantastic, absolutely cute as a button. Lots of little edible decorations and details that are a real feast for the eyes. While they have managed to get the fluffiness right on the cakes, they lack structure and fall apart almost instantly. The texture is lacking because of this, lacking any satisfying chew, just becoming sweet goop. These are soufflé, but still pancakes and should be more substantive as a meal. The Earl Grey topping was nice at first, but became a bit overpowering with each successive bite. Sad to say that the Creme Brûlée was barely noticeable and added almost nothing to the dish. By the end, I didn't really even want to finish it. Honestly, the best part of the whole plate was the vanilla ice cream and Biscoff pairing. My boyfriend and I visited on the morning of February 15th after a friend recommended their soufflé pancakes. When we arrived, there was one person ahead of us, and it took about 20 minutes before we were seated. We were shown to the bar seating, and after skimming through the mobile menu for about 5 minutes, we realized we hadn't received any water, while the guests who arrived right after us were already served theirs. Once we placed our order, we mentioned the missing water to the staff, but it took an additional 10 minutes to bring it out, along with our drinks. We ordered a sweet cream cold brew and it definitely was missing the sweet in the cream. The food took about 20 minutes to arrive, and it felt like the guests seated next to us, who arrived after us, were prioritized. I went back with another friend for brunch and got to try something savoury! The okonomiyaki pancake was amazing - the same fluffy pancakes as last time, generously topped with a delicious shredded cabbage salad with nori and bonito flakes. I don't think I've had bonito flakes of this quality before - they were large flakes with texture and fishy (in a good way, as seafood should have) flavour, not like the dry papery kind I usually see. The savoury preparation makes it more apparent that the pancakes themselves are slightly sweet, but this goes really well with the flavours of this dish, and I would imagine with the benedicts too. My friend got the smoked salmon benedict pancakes and said they were amazing too, and "even the salad is delicious". I also got a black sesame milk which came out great - very nutty - and a matcha white chocolate cookie. The cookie had a strong matcha flavour (which you can see in the rich colour) but there wasn't so much that it was bitter or grassy, and had the ideal chewy texture. Was big enough to split, but I could've eaten it by myself. Service was pleasant again this time around and the pancakes came out remarkably fast (considering the necessary time required to make them), although that probably had something to do with the fact that we were the first seated with our reservation at 11. While it definitely delivers in presentation, I am unfortunately a bit let down when it comes to the taste. As a taro fan, I was expecting stronger flavour, but they mostly tasted like cream. Was so excited to see Fufu Pancakes participating Dine Out Vancouver this year I made sure we arrived before opening since I missed out on making a reservation for this and next weekend and they are fully booked for the two weekends. There were at least 20 people in line by the time the restaurant opened with half in queue that has made reso already. The restaurant is very organized with a good amount of seatings for walks-ins and reservations. On to the food! For the DOV menu they have two options - Brunch ($29, served till 2:30pm) and Lunch Option ($26, served all day). The difference between the two option is that the brunch option is all savoury pancake selections versus lunch are all sweet pancake selections, but both comes with your selection of mini sando and drink that's in the DOV menu. We ordered DOV Brunch ( Mini Tomago Sandwich + Egg Benedict Soufflé Pancake w/ Oyama Sausages + Rose & Lychee) and a DOV Lunch ( Mini Tomago Sandwich + Tiramisu Soufflé Pancake + Peppermint Hot Chocolate). The mini sandwich was a great starter and balancer depending if you order a savoury or sweet pancake because the sando has a sweet and savoury option too! The pancakes here are out of this world and are fluffy light souffle pancakes! I can't believe it took me this long to try this place! Refreshing Souffle Pancakes I've visited Fufu a few times and they are always so busy, especially after 1pm, even on a weekday I tried their June special (June 14th to July 3rd) $16.50 ' Mango Yogurt Souffle Pancake' and it was very refreshing, like drinking a mango lassi The fluffy pancakes didn't look as fluffy as they normally do because they piled on the fresh Ataulfo mango, mango puree, and lemon yogurt whipped cream On the other hand, the Tiramisu Souffle Pancake ($16.50) has more textures and not as sweet. Very cute cafe! The soufflé pancakes are made-to-order and it usually takes 20 minutes to fluff them up but mine came out pretty quick. I ordered the tapioca pearl milk tea soufflé pancake, which is only available on weekdays. It comes with 3 stacked soufflé pancakes, earl grey tea infused whipped cream, tapioca pearls and brown sugar syrup. These soufflé pancakes are SO FLUFFY, similar to the ones I had in Tokyo. The pearls were nice and chewy and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't overly sweet with the brown sugar syrup. When we got there we were given the option to sit at a table with a 1 hour limit or sit on the high top with no limit so it might be a good idea to make a reservation. read more

Feeling blessed. I had a coffee to start, Agro roasters is on the menu, followed by a savoury and a sweet pancake dish. My party ordered an Eggs Benedict with Aoyama Sausage and the seasonal special, Blueberry Pancake. Both were composed of very simple ingredients, but were delicious as a whole. I particularly enjoyed the slightly sweet Aoyama sausage, it complemented the every so slightly salted fluffy pancake very well. The sweet blueberry pancakes was more refreshing than I imagined. The zesty-ness of grated lemon worked well with the tangy-ness of ricotta & the subtle sweetness of fresh blueberries & the blueberry compote. Both are dishes that I would re-order. Ordering the soufflé pancakes does take time (I waited almost 35 minutes) but understanding they are hand crafted and time sensitive. To get the height and airy texture, the egg whites have to be beaten and mixed accordingly and baked to just almost done. Loved my Americano was strong and the temperature was hot. I could still see the steam rising. When the sweet dish arrived, there were 3 soufflé pancakes and 2 perfectly caramelized bananas topped with Nutella whipped cream & chocolate raspberry ice cream and drizzled with icing. The soufflé are plain and it's the toppings that make the dish sweet. My friend and I sat at a table by the back so got to see the open kitchen and the chefs making the soufflé pancakes. The decor is contemporary and comfortable and services was efficient. Being a weekday afternoon, we were able to nab a table without waiting. I don't know why they only have 3.5 stars!!! I love souffle pancake so much!! No matter where I go, I must try it out! We came 30 mins after they opened at 11. Just after we sat down within 10 mins.. the whole place was filled up. I overheard that the next table would be in an hour. We sat at the back where you can see them making the souffle pancakes!! I love Japanese pancakes because they are fluffy, airy and not too sweet The ones at fufu pancake cafe are offered in sweet or savoury options. The inside of fufu definitely gives off first date kind of vibes as well. Tried out their tiramisu souffle pancake this time and it gave off coffee without being too overwhelming.
