While Fuel Services may appear to be a friendly and homey type company my experience was far different and I would suggest people look around before signing with them.
I called for an evaluation to install some equipment so they sent out a technician to start the process, he had to report back and get pricing later from the VP because they didn't have set prices, rather odd because the next company I called priced it while he was standing in my driveway, normally they have set rates for parts and labor. The technician said the VP handled all prices and repeatedly spoke of the VP as if he were a demigod, which made me curious from the start. He made several statements that indicated he was more interested in not offending the VP or crossing his authority then he was to doing the job, it was odd because he kept stressing it. Dedication to the job is one thing but this bordered on worship.
They knew this was holding up my moving process so I waited a couple of days and called to see if they had completed the pricing, it took the receptionist about 5 minutes to identify who I was. Interesting because the name and address should have done it but that wasn't the case. After a few minutes she said "Oh yes...., I know who YOU are now, please wait". Interesting, they identified me and made it sound as if I were on some type of list. She then informed me the VP hadn't done the quote yet and it could be a while so I asked to speak with him. At first he wasn't in the office but that quickly changed to "he's on another line and busy". Okay, so it now sounds as if he has not done it or is not going to quote this job.
I never did end up speaking with him, never got a quote and no one ever called me back, it became apparent this company has developed a clique and only deals with certain individuals they select. The technician coming out to evaluate the labor and materials was actually evaluating me and not the job. All I can say after the limited dealing with them and the unreachable VP is that I am better off without them.
From the start I had a hint of something being off with the range of offbeat questions he posed and then when I asked the tech about some pricing and charging for propane which was not used pertaining to empty tanks (something which happened to my mother a few years ago), he said "oh that's old practice that we're trying to get away from." Did I hear that right...? Did he just say Trying to get away from? Well if you're trying to stop overcharging for something you don't supply why don't you simply stop doing it, why would you have to try?
Clearly with no standardized pricing and the lack of the VP's professionalism I am better off without them and the clique attitude they projected. Another company was glad to come out and has completed the job with standardized prices and rates in a very friendly manner without any arrogance.
With the way it was handled or I should say NOT handled I can only assume the company is subject to pleasing the VP before the customer with the customer viewed as optional, certainly not a priority. Do as you will but Caveat Emptor. read more
