Central isn't the first place you'll think of for good coffee - I mean with all the better boutiques in Sheung Wan and Quarry Bay, there's little reason to. Central is mostly big chains and cookie cutter corporates (but do note Coco Espresso has recently set up shop on Stanley Street).
Luckily, there's still Fuel Espresso, conveniently tucked in the basement of Landmark, where you also have at least 5 other options eg. Simply Life, Starbucks, Ciak, Urban, etc, that don't offer a cup as satisfying but charge a discount to Fuel. (Robuchon has blue mountain if you're willing to pay)
The second shop of this New Zealand based boutique uses the same top notch La Marocco espresso machines and has a quite full bodied blend with a low level of acidity. Perfect for an afternoon jolt and complements their velvety milk as well - I typically go for their flat white.
Aside from sourcing premium coffee beans in South America, the owner also has a family run coffee farm in India that supples to Illy among others. Fuel has built a quiet reputation as a power coffee stop in Central, a testament to it's eye for quality. read more
