Working with Andrea Olsen and her team was one of the best decisions we made during our remodeling project. We remodeled our entire main floor -- starting with the kitchen, where we removed a wall to open up the space. From there, we raised the floor in the living room and added a pocket door for privacy. Andrea and her staff from FTC Interiors consistently deliver excellent designs to our clients, for both remodeling design/interior consultations and paint color consultations. Our clients have all been very happy with her work, as well as happy with our painting and remodeling finished product. We have a large painting and remodeling company that does high-end work for our clients, and we do around 200 projects a year. We are a high-end company so naturally our clients expect the best, and have high expectations. And FTC Interiors always delivers. We have worked with other designers (from different companies) who fell short, didn't show up on time, or provided design advice that our clients didn't like- but every single client has been very satisfied and felt completely helped by FTC Interiors and Andrea in particular. She is the best designer we have ever come across, and we've been using her as our go-to designer for many months now. I can't speak for Melissa, but from what I know about contracting and design, it sounds like a classic example of Melissa hiring a designer to do design, and then complaining and trying to unfairly hurt Andrea's reputation when the designer did not also act as a contractor too. It is not the designer's responsibility to install or remodel a home, only to design it. If Melissa chose to not hire a contractor, (and by her own words, she admitted she declined to hire the window treatment company) then that is on Melissa, not on Andrea. We recently had a bathroom remodeled. Andrea is a fantastic designer! She helped me choose everything from the shower doors, tile, vanity, lights, paint, fixtures and more. I didn't know there were so many pieces to coordinate, but Andrea led me through the process of choosing everything to fit together. She had great advice and also had a good sense of my personal tastes. The installation was later than expected, so Andrea rescheduled (more than once - thank you!) the supplies delivery (which took up my whole garage) so they wouldn't be sitting around my house taking up space. Upon delivery she arrived to go through every single item to make sure everything needed had been delivered. During the remodel Andrea made timely visits to make sure everything was going as planned. She had a good relationship with my contractor and was always warm and friendly. During the project we were short a few tiles and Andrea scrounged up the extras in 24 hours and brought them over herself. Andrea is professional, knowledgeable and amiable. Andrea came into my home to help plan my office space to be efficiently designed for easy access to a fax machine and copier that I wanted to hide in a decorative cabinet. This cabinet needed to store office supplies and be accessible during office hours yet have a clean finish. I wanted to have a nice looking piece of furniture that belongs when I'm done with the day and close the business doors. She helped me shop for the design items and quickly decide what works and what doesn't work. She really helped me with all the confusing choices at the retail store. From placement of the furniture and selection, the process was smooth and very affordable. She offered design tips to help the space be functional. Andrea helped us on two occasions. First, she did a stellar job staging our house to put on the market. Our house sold in 1 week and a big credit goes to Andrea's staging talents. She went through each room of our house and told us what needed to go, stay, move, etc. She later came back for tweaking and put the finishing touches before our open house. It was awesome and efficient. Once we sold our house, Andrea helped us decorate our new condo. She advised on new furniture, window treatments, new carpets, lighting and helped keep a consistent style. Our old furniture was very traditional and we wanted smaller, modern furniture in our new condo --- and still have comfort. Overall, I'm very disappointed with Andrea of FTC Interiors. There was such a lack of customer service that I am left with a bitter taste when I see the paint on my walls and valances on the windows. I sought her assistance to help determine paint colors for many rooms in our new home and for custom window treatments on the main level of our home. She was very responsive and did assist with paint color selection and then I went to her studio to look through fabric swatches for the window treatments. I was underwhelmed with the whole process but my rating truly stems from the follow through once the fabric arrived. We installed the curtains ourselves (versus using her installer which would cost extra). Screws and anchors were not provided. The incorrect rods were included for one window. One window was completely missed in her order and ended up arriving 8 weeks later than expected due to her oversight. The majority of the curtains were the incorrect width and then when she remeasured and had them trimmed, they were cut too short so we now have visible holes in the walls where brackets had to be moved. All of these "issues" and not one time did she step up and take responsibility or accountability. No apologies. Having served as a project manager on many occasions, I know it is the leads responsibility to manage all aspects of a project and provide accountability and transparency - this was all lacking and never once was an offer made to make things right. The window she missed in her original order that arrived 8 weeks "late" was left on my front porch on a day when it rained. No follow-up to see if it was correct; no apologies for the lateness or her oversight. That was her final communication with me. Zero customer service read more

Andrea is awesome! She is so talented with paint colors among other things - we met her when we bought our first condo and she helped us within our tight budget. Years later we called to see if she would come help us put final touches on our kitchen in our new house. She drove to maryland for us and once again sprinkled her magic. I only have great things to say about Andrea and how much she helped me and my family. My Father died suddenly and we ended up having to move my elderly mother out of her large home into a smaller apartment and eventually into her Independent Living apartment. Their house was filled with beautiful furniture and antiques and my Mom and us daughters had certain things we really wanted to keep and be able to see when we spent time at her place. With both moves, Andrea helped so much. She not only helped in keeping a lot of my parent's furniture by laying it out in the right way in each room, but actually came to each new apartment and taped the shapes on the floor so we could see how things would actually look before everything was moved. I used Andrea on two separate occasions. The first was for our first home. Being our first home, it was small and dated. So Andrea focused on what the highlight of the home was and it was the bay window in the living room. She created modern yet classic blinds that EVERYONE loved. Our family just wrapped up renovating our entire first floor. We've gotten so many compliments on it, I figured it's time to thank Andrea publicly for her fantastic efforts! Prior to working with Andrea, I had been intimidated about working with an interior designer. What if we had different style preferences or her selections would be out of my price range? Meanwhile, I knew I could not undertake a large project without some assistance. Mistakes could be costly and I didn't trust myself to make so many design decisions. It turns out, Andrea was perfect for our family. We first engaged her on a bathroom remodel. She understood our aesthetic and helped us to make selections on quality bathroom fixtures, and affordable yet lovely tile choices. We love our updated bathroom. Then, we engaged her on remodeling our kitchen, family room and dining room, as well as building a new mudroom and powder room. She walked with us as we figured out an efficient kitchen layout and made selections on cabinetry, appliances, tile, flooring, paint colors, and a fireplace surround. She even took me through a freezing cold stone yard in the middle of winter to help us choose the perfect countertop. Each step of the way, she helped narrow the universe of choices, within our budget, and left us to make a final decision amongst three options. Although we didn't meet on a consistent basis, and she juggled many projects at a time, she was always responsive, quick to remember where we left off and could visualize where we were headed (even when we could not). We were so pleased with her help on our construction projects, we engaged her further to help us with some fabric selections for our dining room chairs and seat cushions, as well as a couch for our new family room. We love our beautiful yet functional kitchen, stunning powder room, cozy family room, and organized mudroom. I asked our contractor for a recommendation for a designer and he gave me Andrea's name. We worked together from about March 2015 until October 2015 on our remodeling project for our home. It included a new facade on the house, opening up the two front main-level rooms (removing a fireplace, widening a door between the two rooms), adding an upstairs office and some work in the two front upstairs bedrooms as well as a few touch-ups in the kitchen. Architecturally, she suggested that we widen the kitchen door and add a pocket door there---that has been a favorite feature of this renovation. It totally opens up the kitchen between the front and back of the house but also allows for privacy if we want to close it off. She also offered some input when we had to make decisions about materials to use on our front porch pillars. Further, she went through the electrical plan with me and met with the lighting store person with me as we discussed best places for outlets and switches, three-ways, accent lights. I am very pleased with how that turned out. Our switches are much better placed than previously and we have areas that are much better lit than before. My kitchen is better lit than ever before. Cookies anyone? Early on in the project, Andrea met me out by Dulles Airport to purchase a new stainless steel fridge and microwave and helped facilitate that purchase. She even picked up the microwave and brought it to me to avoid a delivery charge. We also went to a tile store that day to pick out tile for the kitchen backsplash. (She calculated what was needed and placed the order. I picked it up out at Mosaic Tile in Merrifield to avoid the delivery charge). She brought several books of rugs for our family to look through and we narrowed it down to about 8 and then she helped us make the final decision. Then, we looked at furniture. We talked in detail about how we would use the rooms and even included future room use (so as not to buy too much furniture--I hope to put a grand piano in one of the rooms someday). She looked around and came up with some solutions for space issues I have had in the kitchen. She measured and came back with a couple options for how furniture could be placed in each of the rooms. Next, we met at the furniture store to look at her recommendations. I sat on the couches and chairs that we were considering. She had gone to the furniture store earlier than me and had some samples of fabrics ready to choose from based on the colors we had chosen for the carpets. If I didn't care for something, we looked for other ideas. But really, I liked most of the things she had chosen. After the furniture order was prepared (by her), we started looking at paint colors. She led me through coordinating from room to room and with the furniture fabrics and carpets. We added a couple of accent walls which I LOVE! Finally, we considered window treatments. We had to deal with some windows that required inside mounts and others that required outside mounted blinds. I didn't like the outside mounted style, so she suggested doing some curtains. I did some shopping online, shared what I had found and she offered suggestions and recommended that I sew 3 panels together for each side of the window and recommended the size of curtain rod and color. She placed the order for the blinds and alerted me to a $300 rebate that was available. She is sending the information for me for that rebate. Andrea was able to make a few small adjustments with timing of payments on our contract and we spaced out the purchases of carpets, furniture, and window treatments so that it worked out better for us financially, which I really appreciated. I appreciated that she was willing to work with the furniture we had decided to keep. We will be reupholstering one piece to match the other pieces--it was a good size, comfortable chair and in excellent condition. I have never hired a designer before; Andrea was the first. While I love beautiful spaces, creating them has always been a matter of stress for me and I don't enjoy shopping. Andrea was perfect for me. She was patient, prompt, and attentive. She listened carefully, directed when needed and was respectful when I voiced my thoughts. She had wonderful ideas. She did quite a bit of legwork that reduced my stress level. I appreciated her delivering the carpets to me, placing orders, keeping track of all the colors to match, and taking measurements. I learned a lot in the process. She had great ideas and I am really delighted with the appearance of our house. It fits the needs of our family. It looks beautiful. read more

Andrea is fantastic! Two years ago, she helped me remodel my outdated laundry room and study and working with Andrea was fun, convenient, and efficient! Andrea has a keen eye and a great ability to quickly assess her clients' style preferences making it a breeze to choose from the options and examples she presents. Andrea came and helped me with my living room curtains because we have six large, floor-to-ceiling windows and I did not dare tackle that myself (even though I have decorating background). We'd also painted the LR bold colors - red and grey. I wanted something sheer that let the light in, but also blocked the neighbors house next to us. Andrea was just wonderful to work with.. very pleasant, professional and really nice. I felt that she really listened to me and came up with a really creative idea - three sheer fabric colors sewn together as one big piece (silver, red and gold x 2). It turned out just beautiful! The sun shines through the curtains I feel that we have some privacy and the fabric is so pretty.
