Need to stop by Bank of America? It's inside! Want some Starbucks to fuel your shopping trip? Inside! This Fry's is one of the bigger ones in the valley and I dig it. They have a great floral department as well and I have bought several arrangements here for graduation and host/hostess gifts. Yep 1 star. I shop at other Fry's all the time and this place is a mess! I have to walk through the clothing department to get lunch?! No prepared foods available except chicken only. Which is fine, but there are no sides and only one person working who is making deli slices for a lady that has been here 30 minutes. Numerous customers waiting with no help. Two people in bakery, not assisting and another deli employee doing other duties. Deli manager comes out, doesn't assist, has a few items for employees to do and walks back again to the back, even when customers are asking to speak to the manager. So 5 people working within 10 feet and only Alex is doing his work in the deli. And he doesn't care to find extra help or the other employees would probably just get mad anyway ‍. Even so, customers aren't getting helped. This store is super disorganized. I asked for a manager and there's no one present. Purchase bananas that are ready to eat. I speak to the cashier. There's no manager around in store ‍and then I finally go to the customer service and let the front manager know what's going on. ‍. I end up skipping lunch, but maybe this is for the best in order to lose weight. Anyway, I shop at all the Fry's stores and this has got to be the worst one. New in town and needed groceries, so Fry's it is. This is one of those "groceries etc" locations so it has full on clothes, kitchen appliances and everything which personally I hate because it's a huge building. Anyways, easy to get a cart by the door, inside of the store is very clean. Cashier was friendly but there was no courtesy clerk so I ended up bagging all but maybe 1 bag which the cashier just tossed my pizza in a bag. I'm sure she hates when no one is there to bag, but when I'm spending $100, I always hate that I'm forced to bag my own groceries. read more

Grocery store, and mini mall all tied up into one Upon entry, I noticed that the FIRE DEPARTMENT were outside conducting a fundraiser (FIREFIGHTERS ) they all looked like a bunch of models outside and inside to be honest. Anyway, they were all so nice and of course, alllllll of them were extremely friendly. I suppose, I forgot how nice and friendly FIREFIGHTERS are...I almost choked Tempe FIREFIGHTERS stand out from Phoenix and Chandler FIREFIGHTERS. Js ‍‍ Respectfully Back to the store.... The location is perfect!!! I was in and out, as I only needed to pick up a few items. Everything is easy to find since they have the groceries on one end and the makeup and clothes on the other side of the store. I didn't dare look around in that section for fear of really shopping I like going to this frys because it's a busy intersection and you can get and do everything around this location. Fry's Marketplace on south Rural Road is the worst grocery store in the East Valley. They are continually out of items. The click list people block the isles and will not let customers through. Grocery baggers are a thing of the past, as the last few times I have been there, I have had to bag my own groceries. What a disorganized mess! Today was the worst of the worst! A Frito-Lay distributor was very rude to me and the store "manager" could not be bothered to speak with me about it. There are lots of great grocery stores in Tempe like Trader Joe's, Basha's, Natural Grocers and Albertson's. I will be shopping at those stores from now on after my experience today. read more

One of if not the worst Frys I've been to. Their selection is pretty bad- they never stock enough of whatever the sale meat of the week is and it sells out early in the mornings so if you work nights you don't get to eat meat I guess. They also do a lot of bait and switch scumbaggery by putting similar items by the sale signs after the sale items are sold out, so you have to pay extremely careful attention to the weights and original prices to make sure you're getting the proper mark down. They are wayyyyy understaffed, they usually don't have carts at the front door or inside so you'll have to go to the parking lot to get one. And chances are it'll have a broken wheel and be annoying to push. I had an injury a while back and needed to use the electric carts but they never had enough or they were broken or not charged, it was a nightmare. I gave up on that and tried doing pickups, and my stuff routinely wasn't ready at pickup time and I had to scramble to get it next day. Checkout lines are long, they usually have only 1 or 2 lanes open. They rarely have baggers, so you'll be stuck bagging your own stuff. The baggers they do have definitely could use some extra training cause I'll either get 50 bags with a single item in each, or I'll get heavy stuff put on top of delicate stuff, and they are slow as molasses with how busy they are chatting The pharmacy lines are long and the workers aren't very friendly, plus there have been underfilled prescriptions a couple of times at this point Only employee that seems to give a darn about customer service is I think the manager? Guy let me know about a sale I was unaware of and sent an employee to grab me a free case of soda. They don't even have a pokemon vending machine like the frys on southern & mill :( read more

Get rid of the new self-checkout machines. They are poorly designed and are non-functional -- even the very concept of them is objectively bad by design, the only purpose being to save paying a cashier... and this is coming from someone who has frequented the self-checkouts at Fry's since they were first incorporated in 2005. These machines fail, constantly. With only 3-bags of groceries, the clerk had to come over on 3 separate occasions because of the machine decided to stop working as it was suspicious of something that I had properly scanned and its conveyor belt scale failed. Now one might ask "why are you against these new conveyor belt machines but not the old self-checkouts?" The reason is the old self-checkouts actually brought value. In the space of 2 cashier lanes, you could fit 6 self-checkouts. These new conveyor belt self-checkouts take up all of the room of a cashiered checkout without any of the upsides. Let's take a look at the benefits between the three. Cashier-Driven Checkout Benefits: 1. Order will not randomly lock up due to poorly engineered anti-theft preventions. 2. Cashiers are faster at scanning items than anyone can at self-checkout, which is partially due to experience and otherwise due to 3 & 4. 3. Cashiers can scan as fast as they can get the barcode registered, as the scanner is not turned off between each item while it waits to confirm weight of item. 4. There is also a conveyor belt that items can be loaded on, so they can be brought directly from right-to-left hand as you swoop them through listening for each beep to verify it registered. 5. For those who like it, they get to talk to someone. 6. Someone bags your groceries for you, often faster than you can bag them. Traditional Self-Checkout Benefits: 1. You bag your items as you go -- increased efficiency. 2. You can fit more Traditional Self-Checkouts in the same amount of space. 3. Increased availability due to the number of these checkouts as opposed to single-person lanes. 4. For those who like it, you don't have to interact with anyone. New Conveyor Belt Self-Checkout Benefits: 1. If you hate efficiency, you can now pick up every item twice! You have to scan it to send it down the conveyor belt, then pick it up again to bag it to place into your cart! 2. If you love lines, these new checkouts take up the amount of space that you could put 3+ self checkouts! 3. If you enjoy waiting while technology breaks, then don't worry -- these new machines have you covered! 1/5, would be a 0 if I could input one. Almost as good as Del Taco's bathrooms if nobody cleaned them for a week. read more

Went into this store to buy ingredients for dinner It was a shear nightmare trying to checkout as it was after 7pm and the east doors along with the self check on that side were closed. There were extremely long lines with the west self check line extending to the east side It was difficult to discern which line to go into wait in the extremely long self check line or wait for a cashier to check us out We opted for the friendly cashier whose explanation was there were callouts. Brilliant! No store manager or any other representative accessed their PA system to address the issue at hand, nor offer everyone that was affected by this issue a small gesture of an apology and at least 10% off customers bills. There is nothing worse than providing shitty customer service and taking for granted customers that come to spend their hard earned money right after a hard days work to walk into that type of reprehensible disaster. I don't know where to begin. If I could give zero stars I would. I have lived in my neighborhood for 20 years. Today and several months following I went to Fry's with my mother to get her groceries for her. The shelves were empty the products Weren't stocked everything was dirty messy the help was incredibly rude and also nowhere to be found. There were no carts in front of the store. I've been going here for a while. It has gotten worse over the years. Carts rarely at the entrance near the service desk entrance. Now in a sign they don't trust their customers they put in gates to force exits through the checkout area. The staff is nice but there is not enough to handle the slow times let alone the rush times. Expect a wait at checkout. Lastly the organization in the store does not make sense. Pantry items are split by the frozen section. :( Update 8/13/2023 Still not enough staff. They are always asking if we need anything else, asking us if we have any coupons, and reminds us that Fry's price matches their substitutions (which is super helpful when we have a smaller item substituted with a bigger size!) Haven't been in the store for quite awhile, been using on-line ordering and then pick up. I was so surprised to see that carts are cleaned anymore; there was a stand with some paper towels and an empty spray bottle. And then, the registers don't have hand sanitizer near them. When the pandemic first hit, I had come several times and found all kinds of cleaning occurring. Did not see any of that at this recent visit. Even though they have a mask mandate, I saw several customers with no mask, masks around their chin, or on but their nose hanging out. I asked up front about that and was told they can't force people to wear them. Really? There is a rule about no shoes, no shirt, no service...why aren't masks included in that? I picked up groceries and a treat for me! I like the variety of the Fry's Marketplace stores. An expanded houseware and a larger varieties of pet food for my fincky feline is nice. A Starbucks inside the store doesn't hurt either. Cold foam topped lattes on a hot day makes me a happier shopper. read more

This is my go to Fry's. However, I'm not sure what's happening to the grocery cart return person. How is this not done timely with the number of people that come here. The shelves are fully stocked for the most part. The produce and meats are fresh, how is it that the carts are not available for your customers. I need you all to do better. So I sent the money. the recipient was unable to receive the money because I didn't put her middle name down so I came back to Fry's so they can help me fix it and I wait another 30 minutes because they said the guy could help was unloading a truck. The pharmacy is keeping my prescriptions. They no longer accept my insurance, so they will not fill my prescriptions. They won't let me transfer them to a pharmacy that does accept my insurance, they won't give me the prescriptions so I can take them someplace else and they will not allow me to pay for them either. I think the pharmacist wants them for himself since two of them are benzos. I'm suffering because they were supposed to be filled over a week ago. My mother had a stroke on mother's day and is still in the hospital. My Dr prescribed the medications to help me. This store has a nice selection, especially the deli/meat/cheese section. It's kind of like Whole Foods without the sticker shock. I would shop here more except for two things. First, every time I go there I see people not wearing masks. I don't know if it's because of the clientele or because management isn't trying. I suspect it's the latter because at the Albertsons a mile down the road, where I normally shop, I never see anybody without a mask. Second, they have the WORLD'S WORST parking lot. It's hard to imagine a more stupid design. Every time I leave the place I feel like I'm in a freaking Mad Max movie. So how about the rudest reaction I've ever experienced from an employee in the self-check lane. This employee / mean old lady was rude and condescending in her efforts to help with an issue that did not exist. She scanned something then took it for no reason and it made the entire system freeze to which she turned to me and said - "you hit the wrong button and broke it". Wow really? She was the one that scanned and then had to take the product off because I had already successfully scanned it. Then she broke it and blamed me then said I'd have to wait for a manager to clear her problem, which was at least 10 minutes standing and waiting. Check the video if you think I'm making this up. Then a manager showed up and cleared whatever problem with the register when I realized the grape price was wrong- should be .77 but was charged 2.99. When I asked the mean old lady trying to help she said I'd have to come back tomorrow! What? I thought I was at Fry's? Another employee, Marc, was equally as offensive and unwilling to help in any way. Luckily my son was with me to witness what may be the most pathetic attempt at customer service I've ever had. I've shopped here and have found a nice selection of cheeses and meats and have also found good prices on some of their pet supplies too. I was amazed at the pictures sign! I get to the register and they were rung up as 88¢ each and not per pound. I pointed it out and the cashier unpleasantly argues with me and told me to talk to customer service who called produce and confirmed the sign to be wrong. I said, 'I get that but please, either honor this to give me a refund.' I got the refund but was disappointed by them not honoring their own mistake. I got home a called customer service.
