Pretty reasonable burgers and decent value, but the chips are generally a bit sub par.

On the way back one day I convinced my wife we should go in and give it a try before we hit home. When we arrived to the car park the seats were all taken and there was a line up to the counter. We peeped the prices and they were a little more expensive than we expected but I thought the solid patronage was a good indicator to how the meal would be. We ordered our fish and chip meal with a burger to trial. It cost us close to thirty dollars for what we bought. The surprising thing was that the burger was a third of the over all price. It took about twenty minutes for our order to come out, which wasn't too bad considering the line up and when we got home and opened our feast we were pretty happy with the amount of goods we received. There was nothing too special about the fish and chips, pretty stock standard. Still everything was fresh. The burger was the standout, even after the ten minute drive back it kept its consistency and wasn't all wet as I expected. Fish On Line is worth a chow visit in my books.

It's good to call ahead if you are doing takeout. My husband doesn't like fish but thankfully they do burgers too so I get to have my fish. They usually have some tasty caramel tarts in the chiller too!

Walking around Blackwood St I was looking for something cheap and quick to eat. Across the road, a…read morebunch kids making a ruckus caught my attention. Above them a sign read: Mary's Seafood and Takeaway. I got keen. I crossed the road and saw that Mary's had some deals going on. The one that caught my fancy was a classic takeaway meal - A chicken schnitzel burger, chips and can of drink ($8.50). With decision in mind and an empty stomach I strode up to the counter and asked, who I assumed was Mary, if she had EFTPOS. She didn't, fail. Non-the-less she pointed me to the ATM and I soon had my order cooking away. As I sat drinking my lemonade, the kids next to me all got up and before they left all said goodbye to Mary. To my surprise she seemed to have all their names down. I thought this was a good indicator to what I was about to eat. As the kids rolled out a ragged old couple rolled in and Mary brought me my meal. As I opened the paper bags and looked at my burger and chips I though about the place I was in. Mary's, a hole in the wall fish and chippery, situated in a street that is just starting to get yuppified. Those ideals still hadn't affected Mary's and it showed in what I was served. A basic processed chicken patty, lettuce, tomato and mayo. Plain, easy, simple, stock standard. Even if what I got was value for money it was nowhere near the quality I was expecting. But I got what I payed for.
