They'll have to line up after the fluro shirted council workers who are taking a load off with an ice coffee and a burger after a long hard day of work in the sun. George's is a humble looking establishment. It's nothing flash on the inside, it's merely functional, good for pumping out the burgers. They do classic snackbar food here- fish and chips, burgers, hot sandwiches, all of that sort of business. It's dirt cheap, salty and fatty. It's everything you want from a snackbar. Go on, allow yourself to have a cheap, greasy treat. Everyone loves sitting down to some fat bombs (chips) and a can of Sars from time to time. Work up a sweat, and then go on and get down to George's. They'll sort you out.

Everything non-chips tasted very old and borderline sickening. I tried this place because it rated so much better than the local Enoggera fish and chip shop, which is baffling. I should add, they were inexpensive.

We had decided on this place upon a recommendation, and found our way to this cafe that sits almost in a residential area. Strange location for just anyone, but convenient for those housed nearby or visiting the park, I suppose. I love the concept and the color theme, which probably makes me a little bias - but all things aside, their coffee was quite alright. It wasn't distinctly aromatic, but was smooth and not acidic. For food, I had ordered the salad special, which consisted of toasted pumpkin (which sold me), spinach, chicken breast, sunflower seeds, and some other healthy tasting ingredients. While I do love a good salad, this tasted like it was only seasoned with salt (including the chicken), and was really lacking in flavor. I was rather disappointed in the food, and I heard the other dishes were just ok. Unfortunate, for such a cute little place with decent coffee. Of course, I can't quite judge this place with just one dish, but I doubt I'll be returning.

This review is three visits in the making, each time trying something different. Visit 1: Poached chicken salad with quinoa. It was the clean and fresh health boost I needed. I swear I felt instantly energized. Walking away hungry from this plate of goodness would be the diners fault alone. Visit 2: A working lunch where I invites the lactose love by ordering a chocolate & mint milkshake. It's a huge serving and easily shared between two. A little more mint (they use fresh mint) would have been grand but it was still heaven in a cup. My smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were the perfect supporting cast to the roast fennel and don't even get me started on the more than ample serving of Harissa chicken salad my dining companion ate. Visit 3: Zucchini bread with lime cream cheese icing. This soft, fresh baked snack is delicate and light.

I was meeting someone for lunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The outdoor seating area was already pretty full, but that's okay, we were going picnic style. As I waited for my friend to arrive I noticed the eat in servings were huge, and they all looked delicious. We just went with a couple pieces of barra and some chips, and yes, it was a very healthy serving (we didn't finish the chips, only I finished the huge slab of fish).
