Left with green onions, black cherries, oranges, peaches, corn tortillas, fresh corn, avocados, bananas and some fun looking cheddar flavored toasted corn kernels.

This is Des Moines, Washington and not Iowa. This Des Moines is part of the Seattle metro area. This market we really just stumbled across and didn't plan it. So that was a nice perk! We really only intended to explore the downtown area and the pier that we spotted. This market is cute. I think we like the ones in Tacoma a bit better as it is a bit small but they had a lot of food items from vendors that we haven't seen in Tacoma. From here we spotted some Portuguese tarts and since this is the eve that I am writing this review before we go to Spain and Portugal I figured I'd add this review before we depart tomorrow. We had this trip on the horizon and knew to try them here so we could compare them once we got to Portugal. The tarts were great and then we got some handheld flat bread pizza that was excellent from another vendor! We got cookies as well and are still working on them! So despite this was a smaller market we bought plenty! We'd love to come back sometime whenever we can make it happen!

Even on this gray, rainy day the colors of the produce were bright and vibrant. It's so much more fun picking fruits and vegetables outdoors than in a fluorescently lit grocery store. The staff running the stand were welcoming and excited to be there. They do provide bags but it's always good to bring reusable ones from home. You'll see advertisement and directional signs off Meeker Street and on the Green River trail. There is free parking in front of the farm stand and a free parking lot just north of the Meeker Street bridge. I love supporting local businesses and I'm glad I can support our local farmers too.

[they have yummy pan dulce, cakes and desserts, and all the chips you can dream of, some imported from MX Direct] The location could be better, but they have a private lot, and we haven't had any issues in the two-plus years of coming here. Most items are reasonably priced, and the folks here are helpful and welcoming. There could be seedy characters around, but most mind their business. We tried a few other markets closer to our neighborhood, but their selections weren't as good as Castillos. Castillos has most things you can dream of and their carniceria is also bomb, we've tried most meats here, they're pretty high quality. The only con here is the price of the meats, but it's understandable that since they're a small market, they're less competitively priced than the larger grocers. Also, I don't want to hurt their reputation by getting into the details; all I will mention is to be very careful with the Chorizo. Make sure you chew it thoroughly and inspect it carefully while cooking.

Love the small workshops on how they use these their products. Introduction is always welcome. Addressing situations where budget is a concern, teaching children how to sustain themselves as they get older and educating the wider audience to add to their repertoire. I think planning more progressive cooking classes would help. Our neighborhood is active and planning progressive dinners. I hope to take what I've learned from the market and pass it onto my neighbors. The ambiance has been raised a level, compared to the 18th ave location. It's a midweek farmers market during evening hours so it's a place to meet up with family and friends after work. They just completed Legacy Square, a new community space. I like Mithun's stage design. Parking is available in the garage, on the street, and in designated parking lots. Good mix of vendors. Bluebird Ice Cream is a popular one. Fresh produce. Pretty flowers. Good vibes all around.
