I think they do the best they can with the limited space they have. I think they could use more food trucks and more variety on all that they offer, but overall, it's better than markets I've seen in Bellevue and Burien. The Boeing building on Park Ave are due to be demolished. That would make an amazing space for a public market, but I just assume the city can't afford the space. The people here are great which probably speaks more to the community, but again, more space and variety would benefit the market.

I grew up in a place where berries didn't grow wild, but things like avocados and oranges were in abundance. Now that I have discovered this pick-your-own berries and subscription farm, though, all of this has changed. Today was my second visit to the delightfully lush Lazy River Farm down south, in Kent. Lazy River Farm is right now teeming with raspberries and blueberries that you can pick for $1.50 per pound. This is about one-fourth the price I pay for frozen berries at Whole Foods. But please don't make me calculate the cost of my gas in this equation since I am so happy thinking about how I am fiscally savvy to be picking my own. Plus, it's really, really fun! Visit Lazy River Farm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 9-5. And be sure to follow all the instructions on the posted signs because these farmers are serious about their wonderful berries.

I felt a little out of place in my Seattle grey and dark denim, but there was a tie-dye stand at the Market, should you be inspired to go local. I love this small market. Enjoyable live music (and later, taped Irish folk music) played on the loud speaker. The produce was incredible: orange and yellow cucumbers, vine ripe tomatoes in all colors, enormous multicolored kale, beans galore. Everything farm fresh. Not a lot of baked goods or food vendors, but there is a great carmel vendor (Vashon's own King's Carmels) who was tasting and selling a bevy of flavors, including the mouth watering ginger carmel. (Of coarse, our daughter liked the straight ahead caramels, and who wouldn't?) We bought some bison steaks from a couple of ex-investment bankers now running the "Midlife Crisis Farm." (Gotta love it.) We cooked them up tonight, medium rare with melted butter on top. So good. The market reminded me of a smaller version of the organic Farmer's Market on Salt Spring Island in B.C. complete with craftspeople, organic farmers, food artisans and local island kids running around and hiding under tables. Anytime I am missing the Bay Area and Santa Cruz, or don't feel like driving all the way to B.C. and taking a ferry to Salt Spring, I will have to come here instead. Hippie fabulousness!
