The market takes place right near the big fountain and the Kent Library. It takes up one whole street, so it's nothing in comparison to Kent Cornucopia Days but I mean, it's just a weekly market so don't expect it to be bigger than it is. There's a good variety of vendors - tons of stands sporting local produce, local food products, and several stands with people who make all sorts of products ranging from soaps to baby clothes! There's a ton to look at. There's also several stands that have the type of flowers that you'd find at Pike Place - the arrangements are GORGEOUS and pretty big! The most expensive ones cost $15 - which is a hell of a deal in my opinion! You won't spend hours at the Kent Farmers Market but it's a great place to swing through on your Saturday morning before starting your day. Who doesn't love to support local?!

Even though it was a weekday morning and there were still a few parking spots available, the place was already busy with customers. The greenhouse was filled with beautiful hanging flower baskets everywhere, creating such a colorful and cheerful atmosphere. Most of the baskets were priced around $35-$45, and of course I ended up finding one I absolutely loved and bought it. I also picked up some locally harvested honey while I was there. Before leaving, I made sure not to forget the organic seeds I originally came for: zucchini mix, mixed salad greens, sprout mix, and herb mix. This is always one of my favorite places for gardening inspiration, seasonal flowers, and local products.

There isn't a price to the menu so you don't know the cost of anything, and recipients aren't given once purchased. I don't mind supporting self owned businesses, the reason why we came to these outdoor establishments. As I paid with card, the lady quickly grabbed the machine. I know right after swiping the card, there is a second option to tip the vendor, wasn't given the option because she grabbed the machine as soon as I put my pin in. I personally seen her charge us for 2 hot dogs and 1 order of fries for the TOTAL PRICE of $27 more than a bit on the expensive side but that isn't what frustrated me (as I know these places up charge, again.. I wanted to support). After eating there and leaving, I checked my bank statements and she added herself an additional tip and the final total came out to $30.89, now that frustrated me. That's taking advantage and to be honest I feel violated. It's these type of interactions that ruins it for me. I no longer want to support these types of establishments due to 1 person actions. What a shame. Again, this is the hot dog stand that did this.

Even on this gray, rainy day the colors of the produce were bright and vibrant. It's so much more fun picking fruits and vegetables outdoors than in a fluorescently lit grocery store. The staff running the stand were welcoming and excited to be there. They do provide bags but it's always good to bring reusable ones from home. You'll see advertisement and directional signs off Meeker Street and on the Green River trail. There is free parking in front of the farm stand and a free parking lot just north of the Meeker Street bridge. I love supporting local businesses and I'm glad I can support our local farmers too.
