I love the Halal Project! I'm spoiled here because they clearly code anything that is GF as such on…read moretheir menu, and their food all tastes fresh and delicious. The meat is seasoned and hits the spot every time - it doesn't matter what meat you get because it is all great! Tons of variation on their menu. I get the bowls with rice and lettuce a plus every topping under the sun and garlic/harissa sauce. Chicken is great, beef is great, and I could eat their falafel all day. I love getting the bowls with their various pickled veggies for the contrast in tastes. Dolma is delicious, the kebabs are delicious, the fries loaded with deliciousness are in fact delicious, and the prices for all dishes are very reasonable. Food can take a little longer, but only because the food is cooked fresh to order and not sitting in a metal container overcooking. Their pitas are stuffed to a brim with toppings and meat, and I could eat their hummus all day every day. Every time we come to San Marcos I have to try to force myself to try something new - it's hard, but we always find ourselves back at Halal Project happily full every time.

The veggies were, as always, beautiful and fresh. Halfway through I did remark to Mr R that Halal Project definitely has more flavor than Taziki, and he agreed. It did take a little longer than expected (mostly noticeable bc it's a day we had a plane to catch) but not outrageous and the results were indisputably worth it. Love to whoever wrapped these gyros sturdily enough to make eating them in the car NOT a complete disaster; we will continue to enjoy this local delight.

Came here for a mid-week date night and really enjoyed ourselves. I've gotten in the habit of doing…read morethe date night thing in the middle of the week and that should certainly be a pro-tip. Definitely avoids the crowds. We arrived and the place was maybe 1/3 full. They had a steady stream and even more take outs/food deliveries, so I knew the place was good. We just found a quite dark corner and tucked in. Started off with the A1. Shrimp & Pork fried egg roll. It was a perfect Vietnamese egg roll. You can definitely tell the national differences across the different countries and I think Vietnamese style are my favorite. Very tasty and I love the texture. We had a Blue Moon that is only second to Tsing Tao beer at an Asian restaurant. For the main course I went with the B5. Shrimp Stir Fry Noodle (Vermicelli) Bowl. It tasted very good! Glad I went with it. Next time I'll try a pork or beef. For some reason the tails are attached to the shrimp. I get it likely is much more flavorful and easier, but it is always awkward to dissect them when you are eating. I'm pretty nimble with chop sticks but I'm not a pro, so I just eat them with my hands with the tails on. But they tasted great! And the bowl was HUGE. I need to eat thru more of the menu and we will definitely be stopping by again to troll thru it.

Kerbey Lane Cafe is an Austin favorite and it's where we went for our Mother's Day Brunch…read more This location is in the middle of downtown San Marco on the river. We called early in the morning and made reservations for 11:00am and we were seated right away. The servers are friendly and very patient. It's breakfast or lunch your choice. They have a nice menu of beverages and today's choice was cinnamon swirl latte. For breakfast I ordered Harvest (V, GF) breakfast with a blueberry pancake and fruit on the side. This omelet was filled with avocado and was really good. I have been to other locations and they are consistent. Overall it was enjoyable.

Let's start with the not-so-great part... the manager completely dropped the ball and got my number…read morewrong, so our "20-25 minute wait" turned into us sitting there way longer than expected. Definitely not the best first impression. HOWEVER... once they realized the mistake, we were seated immediately, so I'll give credit where it's due. Now for the good stuff--the food and the vibes saved this whole experience. The restaurant itself was super cute and honestly a whole aesthetic. It gave this modern 21st-century feel mixed with subtle 70s vibes--very stylish, warm, and just a really fun atmosphere to be in. And the FOOD? Worth it. The Migas plate was absolutely bomb--hands down my favorite dish. My husband's steak and eggs came in strong right behind it, and the French toast was also really good. The pancakes were a little overhyped in my opinion, not bad, just didn't live up to the hype. Even the appetizer and my martini were on point. Which, by the way I ordered my Migas plate with green chili sour cream sauce on the side because other reviews did not look good of the Migas with it mixed in/smothered on top, but after trying it, I ended up LOVING it. Was so good !!! Overall, everything from the vibe to the food delivered...just don't fully trust the wait time you're given 4.5/5 because the kitchen and aesthetic carried, not the front-of-house timing.
