Adelaide Fresh Fruiterers are well known for having exceptionally great produce, and I would have to say that I agree with them. I love this store. It's a pretty large store, and everything is always displayed so well. Before you even walk into the store you get to see all the different fruits displayed outside. Everything is so colourful, it's almost hard to resist grabbing the reddest apple you can find and just sinking your teeth into it. Great customer service, affordable prices and fresh produce.

I just couldn't wait to sink my teeth into an apple, straight from the Adelaide Hills, which had me reaching for a Kleenex, juice was literally running down my chin it was that fresh! And the range of apples. What a delight to be re-acquainted with good old fashioned species, along with new ones I'd not heard of before. And before I get totally carried away on just Apples (I'm an Apple 'nerd') I should mention that Adelaide Fresh carry a huge range of seasonal fruits and veggies. The majority of their range is locally grown and produced. But if you reach, as I did without looking properly, for something which is imported, one of the friendly staff will tell you 'it's from China' - oh so good to be alerted to that fact and re-directed to organic Australian grown produce (just for the record garlic was the product in question). As if seriously fresh fruit and veggies wasn't enough, they also carry a good range of natural, organic raw honey. It's not the most extensive range I've seen but certainly large enough to keep the Pooh Bears of us happy, and also my dog who's on natural honey for her allergies. Yep, honey is fantastic for your pooches too. Added to the temptation in this one stop shop, well almost unless you're a carnivore, is a large variety of nuts and other tasty delights. Along with fresh herbs, complete in many cases with their roots still attached. Forget the poor forlorn, sad little bunches smothered in plastic sans their roots, these are the real Mccoy - you just have to smell them. My partner claims the Prospect Store is better but as I haven't as yet sampled their delights, I can only speak about the Fulham Gardens shop. Being in a small shopping center, there' plenty of parking available so it's easy to load the car up after a delightful time wandering around Adelaide Fresh. Last but definitely not least, the shop itself is a delight. No loud muzac or announcements assaulting your ear drums whilst you're browsing. And the staff are very friendly and helpful. They'll answer even the dumbest of questions with a smile and don't mind you snatching at an apple seconds after it's been scan! So do your taste buds and your health a favor and try Adelaide Fresh it really does live up to it's name.

With that said, it's refreshing to see a recently opened fruit and veg market like George and Ben's. Out the front you have your "seconds", that is fruit and veg that isn't of the highest grade. A lot of fruit and veg stores do this, and there's nothing wrong with 90% of this fruit. I personally buy from the front of the store if I need some cheap fruit to make a smoothie with. As my girlfriend is on a diet I'm required to comply and join her lest I face her wrath. I have no problems doing this and that's probably in my best interests... Anyway, enough about that... Venture inside and you'll see "the good stuff". Fresh fruit and vegetables representing all the colours of the rainbow. Not only do they have some quality merchandise, but they encourage the use of boxes rather than putting the items into a plastic bag. There's nothing wrong with being environmentally friendly!

I've never been able to work out which is cheaper, but I find the quality here slightly better than the supermarket, and they have some great specials on fruit. They sell seasonal fruit by the bucket for $1-$2 per kilo, and you can check for these on the tables at the shop front. There is another table to the side where they sell very old produce, but I've never bought anything here. I figure that I can get half rotten fruit from a dumpster for free (now am I kidding, or not?) The store has slowly been turning into more of a grocer, with a row of pasta and pasta sauces down the back, and a deli and cold foods fridge to the side. It's very Italian, so lots of cured meats and plenty of cheese. I hope the manager keeps his word and gets in the pre-mixed sauce for Chang's Noodle Salad. He told me his idea for it once and I was thrilled, but it hasn't appeared in subsequent months. I'll keep hoping, and keep buying my Chinese cabbage here.

The fruit and vegetable section looks fresh and colourful, just like it should. There's also plenty of trolley space between isles, and in my opinion that's one of the most important things. I hate when you're shopping and everyone is trying to get past you but all the trolleys are taking up space and it just ends up being a disaster. If you live in the area, I would shop here.

I dropped in here last Sunday and was pleased to see them open. They stock a good variety of Vietnamese food, canned food, vegetables that mirrored a cone shaped mini spaceship, usual Asian veges and Vietnamese sweets. I was absolutely happy to find my favourite packet of fish balls and dried tofu in the freezer, that I use to shop for in Malaysia, so I happily took some and grabbed a couple of Asian sweets for the kids to sample. Didn't buy the durian though, which was a shame as I didn't feel like having a 'Durian Day'...oh well, perhaps next time. A durian cost $5.50 per fruit, which I thought was reasonably cheap! Tip: If you love soya bean milk, they sell them in a box of 8. The shopkeeper sold it to me for a discount as I had happily thrown a couple of coconut drink cans in the basket too. I was lucky enough to get invited along to the Norwood Community Markets not too long after they…read morefirst started up. I got to meet Chantalle, who runs the markets, and I got to sample plenty of things from the various stalls. I've been back a few times, and have got to see many changes at the markets, including the move to the beautiful Wesley Church on the corner of the Parade and Portrush Road. The market is a real mix bag, selling everything from vintage goods and clothing, craft, jewellery, fresh fruit, tea, and so much more. Regulars include an Indian curry stall which is always popular, and a book stall that support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. There's the badge making stall for kids (you can bring your own pictures along, draw one, or choose from the ones available), as well as free kids activities, and sometimes you'll find a train for the kids or a jumping castle. Every time I head along I'm shocked that there aren't more people around. But I have a feeling that on some nice Spring & Summer markets they'll flock there. It's a great thing for the local community to embrace. The markets are on the 2nd & 4th Sat of every month.

The prices are pretty competitive down near Grote St, and you can easily duck back and forth between stalls, choosing the best prices and quality. The stock here is of reasonable quality, although be sure to give everything the touch and smell check. I once bought some sweet potatoes here without carefully inspecting, and they were actually quite mouldy. The great thing about buying fruit and veg from small family stalls like this is if you really want, you can probably find out where the stuff is grown, and other details like that.

The fruit and veg on offer is not really strictly seasonal but a lot of it SA grown and you can get a good range of most things (aside from more unique things like baby spinach, rocket, chinese greens, broccolini etc). Service is always quick and I can get a full bag of produce for under $20.
