Trying to eat somewhat clean and healthy in the heart of downtown DC is no easy feat. Thankful that Fruitive is here in the midst of all the great restaurants and food joints catering to working professionals in the area. The store itself is cute and has some seating. Staff are friendly, although somewhat slow when I went on a Tuesday night. I appreciate that they are cashless. Tasty smoothie bowl but only giving 4 stars because of value. the smoothie bowl was really small considering I paid $13 (same price as a poke bowl w/ 2 scoops!) -- and the green vitality only had 2 greens in it out of ~7 base ingredients. Pricey for what it is (even though I could understand their rent is probably high since they're in CityCenter) when you're comparing to SouthBlock or others who have the same price but larger portions and more packed into the bowls (Note that AddOns will cost you at least $1.5 extra, even just a scoop of almond butter....) Despite expensiveness, would come back for one of the only acai bowls in the downtown area and being close to my office. read more

3.5 stars for being fresh, healthy and delicious. I took off 1.5 stars for the ridiculous prices. I understand the location and rent is outrageous especially for a small pop-up like Fruitive but I honestly don't think the average Washingtonian would spend $30 on a wrap and smoothie. I read an article as to why people aren't resorting to healthy lifestyles and it is for this problem exactly - anything remotely healthy comes with a hefty price tag. I typically order the southwest wrap (used to get the Mediterranean wrap before they discontinued it :(, avocado toast and their immune-boosting drinks that sometime boost your immunity too much. That cayenne ginger one is dangerous! Parking is horrific - as it is in ALL of DC.. so be prepared to spend another $10-$15 on parking :) All in all, if you just got paid and feel like spending $$, hit up Fruitive. Came to feed a craving for açai and left super happy with the food! Ordered the antioxidant berry bowl, which contained açai puree topped with granola, chopped strawberries, blueberries, and a banana, all topped with a sprinkle of chia seeds. The combination of textures -- crunchy granola and plump fruit -- made for a very satisfying meal. I'll definitely be coming back here again. Some errata: not much seating aside from bar-style seating along their window, but the staff are very friendly and there is free WiFi, for the intrepid worker bee. The only detraction I might make is the price; I've had similarly composed and portioned açai bowls for $2~3 less. I suspect its location in an upper-scale area is more responsible for the prices than the food quality. read more

My family is in DC for a vacation and we're so glad we tried Fruitive! We enjoyed a clean and delicious breakfast made with the freshest ingredients. All plant based too. My son had the almond chocolate banana waffle and the berry immune liquid meal, hubby had the hail to the kale salad, and I had the avocado herb toast with a matcha latte. All dishes and drinks were excellent! Owner is super friendly and shared his story and love of vegan food with us. He then came back and gave us a slice of pizza to try on the house. Well this place just snuck up on me. Here I was headed to a store in the CityCenter in downtown DC when I came across Fruitive. It looked like a juice place, so I went in to take a look. It turned out to be a vegan cafe! Well, more like a take-out joint with a little seating, but still! As yet another place using the trendy "plant-based" designation, I decided to be safe and confirm it was vegan. It is. And when did they open? December 2015, they said. Well, I'll be darned. The menu looked very intriguing. They are popular for their fresh, cold-pressed juices and juice cleanses, but I was in the mood for something warm for dinner. There are salads, superberry bowls, wraps and sandwiches. I went with the Tuscan Kale grilled wrap. Goodness gracious it was good! Imagine a whole wheat tortilla filled with kale, butternut squash, quinoa, broccoli, chickpeas, caramelized onions, basil pesto mayo, spicy hummus, and cayenne. It was oozing with incredible flavor and very filling! I also tried their spicy red pepper kale chips and they were fantastic. Well, this one's a winner. Cheap -- it is not. Fruitive is a certified organic restaurant and, therefore, nothing is cheap. My sandwich and kale chips cost me $16, but they were so good, I'm already thinking of going back again this weekend. Fruitive is easily one of my favorite spots in town! The food is delicious as well as nutritious. I have a few favorites (the avocado toast is one of the best I've ever had) but every time I try a new item off the menu it becomes a favorite...I'm looking at you southwest taco. The atmosphere is friendly and "cool" with great staff and service (it's a pick up at counter kinda place) A great place to grab food and take out or to sit down for a bit- they have wifi! The one thing that makes this place stand out as apposed to the other "healthy" options in town is that it's certified organic. Prior to getting a facial at Caudalie, it made sense to walk up the street in City Center to have a light snack at Fruitive. When we got there on a Saturday afternoon, many of the refrigerators housing the various juices were empty, which was mildly disappointing. My husband selected the seasonal harvest pumpkin juice, while I opted for a citrus one. Both of the juices were decent, but weren't our top choices (those were sold out). We also had a light nibble, with the avocado toast and the banana toast, both of which were delicious! Since it was Thanksgiving weekend, they were running a promotion on their food, which was a nice, added bonus. Since we bought a 4 pack of facials, we'll definitely be back at Fruitive prior to our next Caudalie experience. read more

Updating because I've been back approximately 8 times and have loved everything I've gotten. Collard tacos are amazing (they may sound weird but seriously they're delicious), acai bowls are fantastic, the soups are hearty and filling, and the smoothies are top notch. Their customer service is great and the staff is super friendly. 4 stars instead of 5 because the prices are just beyond the bounds of reasonable (e.g., $15 for a large soup). I would love to make this my go-to lunch spot, but the prices are just too high compared to other healthy downtown spots. read more

Love Fruitive soooo much. The food is so fresh. Because everything is certified organic, the prices are actually quite low. I think it's the only certified organic "fast casual" restaurant in the entire northeast of America. It's so good and I try to get lunch or dinner here at least once a week. Some of the edamame was harder and inedible but overall the greens and dressing were a good match. Collard wraps and tacos are the jam! For me, sandwiches are almost always all about the filling, so I love getting more leafy greens, less flavor interference from a bland tortilla, and shaving some calories from lunch. (Gotta save those for dessert!) Three filling options keep it interesting. The original is a savory and sweet mix of edamame, apples, sprouts, raisins, sunflower seeds, and hummus. The southwest has a mix of veggies, rice, black bean and corn salsa, hummus, avocado, and a little bit of heat. My favorite is the sesame ginger, with soba noodles, edamame, bell pepper, sprouts, sesame seeds, and an addictive ginger sauce. In addition to things wrapped in leaves, I also tried the avocado and portobello panini. This was delicious! So many of the best foods are in this sandwich. In addition to the obvious two, there were caramelized onions, roasted peppers, and some sort of creamy pesto spread. The juices are both pricey and delicious. I tried the Immunity, a spicy apple and lemon blend that tastes like lemonade with a kick of ginger and cayenne, Kalevolution, a lightly sweet green juice, and my favorite (also not really a juice...) Cafe Latte, a cashew milk and coffee combo that tastes rich and creamy with just a little bit of sweetness. The folks working here are tremendously nice and enthusiastic about their food. While there is a good amount of outdoor seating during the warmer months, the inside seating area is pretty teeny, so take-out may be your best choice during the winter. read more

I found this place after looking for smoothie places through Yelp, and wasn't prepared to walk into a super sleek organic abode tucked in the new city center. I've walked past this place before without knowing what it is--I honestly thought it was more like a Jamba Juice type place--but it's a small, locally owned spot with a wide array of health-conscious, plant-based offerings. Seating is limited--counter-top spots alongside the windows. Since it was my first rodeo, Cory was super helpful and knowledgeable. I wanted a smoothie as a meal replacement, and opted for the Coffee Date with caffeine for mid-afternoon pick-me-up. I asked for less "dates" so the drink wasn't as sweet, but was still pretty sweet. They have a menu with meal options outside of smoothies and juices, but I didn't get that far. Price points are what you expect for this type of food--a little pricier but the average customer coming here is probably expecting this. read more

Just had one of the best breakfast I've had in a while. My friends and I ordered different things so I got to try the avocado toast and vegan pumpkin waffle with pecan and banana. The avocado is seasoned w herbs and the bread is perfectly toasted with a small lather of vegan pesto - absolutely amazing! The waffle is fluffy, perfectly paired w maple syrup, banana and pecan, and topped with coconut whipped cream. if I could give this place six stars I would. so, i arrived around 12:40, knowing i had to be back at work by 1:00, thinking the timing would work. unfortunately, by the time 12:58 rolled around, my food was still not ready. i made the heart-wrenching decision to abandon my sandwich. back at work, i suddenly thought to call the restaurant and ask them to hang on to my sandwich, telling them I'd be back to pick it up after work. and guess what?! steven, the manager, told me he'd be happy to bring it right over to my office. The smoothie was good but for the amount you get for the price, I will not be purchasing again. If you are in absolute dyer need of something green (maybe you're sick and forgot your lunch) head here, otherwise, make your own. The juice, again was good, but extremely overpriced. There are other juice places in the area that sell for a cheaper price per fluid ounce. As for the wrap, you're better off going to a salad bar. Nothing special, and overpriced for what you get. Overall, I'm happy I tried the place because it looked like it had so much promise, but I won't be returning anytime soon. read more

Considering that all of the food is made in house with whole organic ingredients (excluding the bread and wrap) and is full of flavor (island girl approved). Incredibly healthy and filling smoothie bowls! In particular, love the PB + No J. Several ingredients are made in house, including the granola which is wholesome and amazing. Eating a bowl as a meal is perfectly filling, and is a great post-workout meal on the lighter side. My only complaints are that it's a bit expensive. And I wish the store had more seating - the vibe is so relaxed, I'd love to enjoy a meal there with several friends. But any more than 2 and you may be hard pressed to find open stools together. I've tried a couple of the juices, and I think the small version is a bit more expensive compared to other juice spots. They taste good though, and you get a $1 back if you turn in the glass bottle. The avocado toast is amazing, very simple, but very flavorful. There's probably a whole avocado on there, so keep that in mind if you are going for low fat. The avocado cucumber sandwich is also very tasty if you want some tomato and sprouts in addition to avocado. Haven't tried a smoothie yet, but they look good. The bowls look really good too. I suppose everything is kind of expensive, but not any more so than any other lunch spot. read more

I had lunch here, the Southwest Tacos. They were decent and healthy, but nothing to call home about and probably not worth $11. To clarify, the taco shell is actually a collard green leaf and the tacos are cold. The sprouts took up a large part of the filling, so on the whole, while it's not a tiny portion, you're not getting a lot of food either. The space is very nicely designed though, with bookcases and mini display cases that make the juice bottles look like jewelry. It's small and so doesn't have seating, but there are some counters along the windows. I might try breakfast sometime and could see coming back for lunch in the summer, when something cold is more appropriate. read more
