Fruitive has a prime location in city center. I've been here a few times and I do enjoy their PB no J bowl. The cocoa nibs they top the bowl with are delightful and their granola is also very good! They also always top the bowls beautifully. I've rewarded four stars solely because I have not tried the vast majority of their menu. I'm not vegan but I wind up eating vegan meals on a nearly daily basis. So I wasn't turned off by this place when it came up on Yelp. I went during lunch and the line was insane. It moved pretty quickly, however. I ordered one of each of the collard tacos. First off, the portion is pretty large. I wouldn't recommend more than two. One might even be sufficient. The flavor was pretty underwhelming and they were messy to eat. The cost for three dollar tacos and a bottle of water (that I never received) came out to be $22. Pretty steep if you ask me (even though I was able to expense the charge). Maybe I ordered the wrong thing on my first visit. With so many other places nearby, I doubt I'd go back. read more

Went here to try some açaí bowls in DC and these were pretty good. We got the Antioxidant Bowl which had the açaí base, as well as the Maca Berry Bowl, which had the dragonfruit base. Overall the bowls were decent, the fruit were fresh and the granola toppings added a nice crunch. However, I do wish they were a bit sweeter, possibly by adding honey or some other sort of drizzle, as they didn't really have much flavor otherwise. We also got the Avocado Herb Toasts, as the pictures looked really good. The Toasts were amazing and the seasonings on the top were so savory and full of flavor. The bread was toasted perfectly and the seasoning really tied in all the flavor and the texture from the avocado spread. I honestly enjoyed the toasts more than the bowls. There seems to be other food items on the menu which I did not get such as wraps, quesadillas, and salads, but they do seem pretty good as well. A bit pricey for what you get but overall not a bad place to try for a healthy eat. read more

Another updated review for Fruitive! After my last review where I highlighted my negative experience at Fruitive, the owner reached out to me directly. He said that they were looking into how that could have happened, and took it very seriously. He also offered to leave me a gift card at the store as an apology. I really appreciate a business that receives less than positive feedback and works to make it right, instead of being defensive. It also makes me really happy as a customer to know that the businesses I frequent actually care about the experience their customers have. All this to say, I went back in to Fruitive this afternoon. The store was much cleaner than last time (although you can still tell that they have cleaning/construction materials tucked behind a woven screen by the front door) and the vibe was very chill. It was mid-afternoon so there were only a few other customers waiting for orders, or sitting by the window with their smoothies. I ordered the item I had tried on Sunday, (and the item I order the most regularly) the antioxidant berry bowl. This time, they had all the ingredients for it - and it was flawless. OMG I don't understand what magic they use to make their granola but it is beyond amazing. No wonder I was so disappointed by my previous experience when they were out of granola - I think all my future meals will be a disappointment without this granola! They also gave me some coconut macaroons as a thank you for coming back. Which was totally sweet and unnecessary. They came in handy right away because the friend I was heading off to meet just scored a huge new job - so we had celebratory macaroons together. They were yummy, but had nothing on the acai bowl! Ran in here very quickly to grab a smoothie & I'm so glad I did! I only had the smoothie so my review is only for that and my short experience. The food looked delicious however and most people were getting food (over smoothies or just juices). I think the sign on the way said "DC's first truly organic fast casual restaurant" I could be wrong but if that's true, that's saying something! It was pretty busy about 2pm on a Saturday but they got stuff out fairly quickly. The vibe inside is GREAT! Super simple and trendy. There's actually no seats inside but they do have some tables outside. Not ideal in winter, but if you're looking for something healthy/delicious on the go this is the place for you! My smoothie (the Strawberry Banana) was DELICIOUS! I drink a lot of strawberry banana drinks and this was different for some reason. I don't remember all of the ingredients. But it was definitely fresh and unique and so tasty. Get here to try out their juices & smoothies for yourself, and you may even want some food. Their indoor seating consists of 8 seats at narrow bars next to the windows. They have outdoor seating but the weather was a bit chilly the day I was there. I had their roasted red pepper panini. Came in at 7am in the morning to pick a juice. I was expecting freshly made juice - but all the juices were in fridges and had expiration dates, so not sure how old the juice was. I checked the menu and bought two, the large sized juices being $15 for each bottle (including a $1 bottle fee which went down the drain because who really has the time to come back the return a bottle??). For $15 you better make some fresh juice. The one I wanted btw wasn't even made. I was utterly unimpressed by the quality of the juices, the one I tried tasted like Chinese Medicine. I am however not going to give 2 stars because I do like the attempt to blend some pretty interesting ingredients which definitely makes it "unique" I wasn't feel so good so the ginger in my drink did help (but so would have simple ginger tea I presume!). Also the fact that there was barely any sugar in the drinks. The drink itself was so "interesting" that I had to gulp it down like medicine! Also it tastes even worse at room temperature. Will I by be back again? Nope! If I want some juice I'll just go to jamba and get FRESHLY squeezed juice for $5. And if I need interesting ingredients I have tea and Asian food places that make good comfort food. Did I mention for the calorie count this didn't even fill me in anyway. Tl;dr - I almost died here. Food is bad, juice is actually kinda good. Incredibly disappointed about this place. I went to Fruitive because I heard they have great juice and avocado sandwiches. Unfortunately I have a nut allergy and every single juice had cashew milk, so I asked to substitute the cashew milk out. I made it clear I have a nut allergy and they were very receptive to my request. I then proceeded to order the avocado sandwhich, assuming it did not have nuts. I had made it clear I have a nut allergy and the lack of notification about the avocado toast made me feel safe. When I got it, I noticed a spread on it and something (instinct? Idk) made me wonder if it had nuts. I walked up to the server and asked if it did...he looked shocked and said "oh no it has cashews don't eat it!!" If I had taken a bite of the toast I likely would have died. These people are incredibly lucky that there was no incident due to willful negligence. I take full responsibility for my nut allergy...but if I ask you about nuts and tell you I have an allergy...you should tell me if the food has any damn nuts!!! They gave me a new sandwich which was probably one of the worse dishes Ive ordered in DC. They didn't even refund me for the nut dish... Juice is pretty good though. read more

Fruitive is located in City Center at the end of an alley. There is street parking and it is accessible by metro via the Chinatown/Gallery Place stop. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available. The outdoor seats give you a great view of City Center shops and decor. The menu offers very healthy food and juice options. There is also grab and go cold pressed juices stocked in multiple smaller refrigerators. I ordered the avocado herb toast ($7.95) and my husband ordered a super berry bowl ($10.95). Free water is available in a dispenser by the front door, and they also offer alkaline water infused with different fruits for purchase. The food was prepared within five minutes, and I was happy to see that my order was a good sized portion. The avocado was spread out among two pieces of toast sliced four ways. The avocado was fresh and very ripe. There was also an avocado spread that had the consistency of mayo on the toast. It was very filling! My husband enjoyed the super berry bowl, but the fruit was still slightly frozen. It tasted good, and the ingredients meshed well together along with the granola. They give you a big helping of fruits in the bowl for the price point. I will definitely come back to try their other food items, but the menu is limited to acai bowls, toast, tacos, and sandwiches. Fruitive feels really L.A. to me, as it is an expensive health food bar with borderline holier-than-thou vibes.Think $10 smoothies. However, I don't care because the food and portion size makes me feel great about my body / health / general well-being, which I can't say for most restaurants. I recommend both the Collard Wrap and the Southwest Wrap. The Collard Wrap is kind of hard to eat while picking it up like a normal wrap because the stubborn collard keeps wanting to pop out of its wrap shape! Plus there are sunflower seeds popping out all over the place. Hence, I just eat it deconstructed on a plate with a fork. Anyway, the wild rice inside the wrap makes it filling, while the raisins add sweetness and the edamame adds fiber. The whole wheat tortilla in the Southwest Wrap is delicious, even though most tortillas taste disgusting. This is probably because it is housemade. I still need to try a number of their other items including their smoothie bowls and their juice meals but the avocado toast is delicious. Their ingredients are fresh and organic and you can taste it. With the avocado toast the bread they use is pretty good and the dry herb seasoning on top really makes a difference. If you looking for a healthy snack or some breakfast you are good to go here. Love this place! We are visiting from the Bay Area and I am vegan. My husband found this spot for me post sight seeing. It hit the spot. I had the Green Supreme and my husband had the Berry bowl ($10 each). His was more thick than mine, I'd say mine was the consistency of baby food which didn't seem appealing, but still tasted fine! I really liked my bowl, I sampled his, but to me the fruit was so cold I couldn't enjoy it as much. Mine was a bit tangy because of the orange juice and mango I believe. When we went there was no one in line, so our orders came out in a decent amount of time, but while leaving more people came in and the line was moving slow on placing/getting orders. Overall I love this place and would go back again but there are a few problems I had with it. I have a nut allergy and most of the smoothie bowls (which is why I came to this place in the first place) are made with nut milk and topped with nut granola. Therefore I had to substitute a few things but they were very sweet and made sure that the chefs were aware of my allergy. The bowl was super cute and absolutely delicious despite the few changes I had to make. The only other complaint I had was that the food was very pricy compared to other food that I have gotten. But if you are looking for some good vegan food in the dc area I definitely recommend this place!! I will be going again soon!! read more

Fruitive never disappoints! I have been here several times. As a vegan, it's difficult to find healthy as well as delicious vegan food. Fruitive has it all!! From sweet berry bowls to smoothies, to savory sandwiches and wraps. Their fresh juices in the mini fridges near the register are also amazing. Everything that they have is plant based which is really cool. You don't have to worry about there being any animal products in any of the items on the menu! I can't love this place but I can't hate it. I am a cali-dreaming girl that came from San Diego with a love for Acai bowls and fresh fruit smoothies. I had been stalking this place since before it opened and cant say that I am inclined to come back again and again but it wasnt bad! Prices are steep for what they charge here. Yes I get they use all fresh fruit etc, but you could make the same thing at home for way cheaper (but thats too much effort). I have gotten both the acai and some of the smoothies, however, I dont know that they are worth the $11. Right in City Center so they do have a good location.
