Fast forward a few years and sure enough, Nadine constructed the most beautiful and mouth watering cake for my wedding! I scheduled to meet with Nadine one Saturday (she gives free samples on Saturdays!) without the slightest idea what I wanted my wedding cake to look like. She was so patient with me and she worked through it, really paying attention to every word I said and got so creative. She drew up a sketch of what she gathered that I wanted. When I saw my cake on our wedding day I was speechless. It was more beautiful and perfect than I could have EVER imagined!!! Nadine is extremely talented, and it's very obvious she loves what she does. She is expensive, yes, but she only makes a few wedding cakes every weekend so they are high quality. We went to go eat our top layer last week because we are moving and could not keep it frozen any longer. When we went to eat the cake we realized the filling was not what we asked for. Scraped it off the cake to confirm and taste it by itself. I called and told them about the issue today and told them how highly disappointed we were. They told us that In their records we received the correct filling but there is absolutely no flavor to it once so ever and they didn't offer any kind of small refund or to make us some kind of small replacement or anything didnt seen to even care that I was clearly upset over the matter. Extremely sad we won't get to enjoy our top layer of our cake because it is extremely plain.. but glad I didn't wait a year to find this out on our special 1 year wedding anniversary or I would have been about 1000 times more upset... I got this cake because my mom had her wedding cake from here and I loved it so I am sad to say the quality has significantly decreased in the last couple years..

My wife grew up in the area and we returned not just for the holiday season but for the 1st Bday of our daughter. 1st Bday's should be special and we were happy to be able to celebrate it among family. We of course wanted to buy an nice cake for her bday and found "Cakes by Karin" on Yelp. My daughters theme animal throughout her first year of life is a sloth and we wanted to incorporate that theme into her Bday cake. So we found some pics on-line, of what we wanted the cake to look like based on her theme. What we chose was something of a "fantasy" cake...as in no one can possibly do this right? Ultimately reached out to Karin with a pic and the question, "can you make a cake to look like this?" Not living in the Hudson, OH area our communications with Karin were via email or txt. She said yes and gave us a price...we settled on the pick up date and paid on line. "Easy peasy lemon squeeze" as my 15 yr old would say. I have to admit I was nervous the day we scheduled to pick up the cake. My wife talked about a show called "Nailed it ", and how this cake (for our daughters first bday) could go the way of the cakes on the show...in other words badly...we were both nervous. Like a true professional the cake was in an amazing box wrapped with ribbon and a candle...the cake looked so amazing we almost cried. Of course it tasted perfect. Everything about the cake was impressive...everyone who attend the party was impressed lots of o's and ah's to go around...for the cake. My daughter is not going to remember this specific bdabut the pics prove that went the extra mile for her first bday...it was all helped along by Karin at "cakes by Karin". As far as I'm concerned she a treasure and if you have a "fantasy " cake you want realized...I doubt anyone in the area can to a better job!

Planning a…read morewedding from afar (in an unfamiliar city no less) seemed daunting initially, but thanks to finds like "A Piece of Cake" I'm quite confident we'll pull it off successfully. We just completed a tasting with Miya over Christmas break (well in advance of our September 2011 wedding, but this was our only opportunity for the tasting). First of all, Miya is incredibly communicative. Most of the time, she responds to emails within minutes! Her website is one of the best designed and most informative I've seen, and that coupled with her communication savvy puts my mind completely at ease--we are dealing with a consummate professional. Of course, she was *so* professional that we were surprised to learn that "Piece of Cake" is a one woman operation!! Miya is a full-time social worker who runs this fabulous enterprise on the side and makes all the cupcakes herself in her own kitchen!! For the tasting, she invited us into her home and we sat at her dining room table with glasses of milk she poured for us and breakfasted on fresh cupcakes. $10 got us a tasting of 5 cupcakes for two (we each split one cupcake per flavor), and that $10 will be subtracted from our final order. We sampled the: 1) Classic Vanilla (with vanilla buttercream frosting), 2) Greater Pumpkin (pumpkin cake with vanilla cream cheese frosting and dulce de leche filling), 3) Life Gives You Lemons (lemon cake with lemon curd filling and lemon cream cheese frosting), 4) Rise n' Shine (french toast cake with maple cream cheese frosting and crumbled bacon), and 5) classic Red Velvet (with cream cheese frosting). They were all fantastic, but my personal favorites were the Rise n' Shine and the Greater Pumpkin. The pumpkin actually tasted like pumpkin and the rise n' shine like french toast--which is so rare for spice cakes! The prices are very reasonable for what you get (tinting the frosting and set-up and delivery are included). You can rent a tiered display rack for a modest fee and order custom cupcake liners at cost. Payments are handled through PayPal. I can't begin to express how excited we are for our wedding cupcakes, but we'll be sure to update this review come next fall!

We wanted unique flavors, a light buttercream frosting that would not be too heavy since we also served ice cream and an elegant design; all in a reasonable budget. Kathy delivered on all fronts with a beautiful four tier cake in two flavors. We chose a white cake with strawberry balsamic buttercream filling and lemon curd filling, it was delicious, moist, sweet and tart. Our other flavor was a take on Buckeye flavor: chocolate cake with ganache filling along a with peanut butter-buttercream filling, decadent and a real hit here in Ohio. Kathy made the whole cake experience unforgettable with a tasting right at her dining room table and a handmade sketch of our cake to go along with our design decisions.
