My fiance is from Cleveland, and we are getting married in the area next autumn. Planning a…read morewedding from afar (in an unfamiliar city no less) seemed daunting initially, but thanks to finds like "A Piece of Cake" I'm quite confident we'll pull it off successfully. We just completed a tasting with Miya over Christmas break (well in advance of our September 2011 wedding, but this was our only opportunity for the tasting). First of all, Miya is incredibly communicative. Most of the time, she responds to emails within minutes! Her website is one of the best designed and most informative I've seen, and that coupled with her communication savvy puts my mind completely at ease--we are dealing with a consummate professional. Of course, she was *so* professional that we were surprised to learn that "Piece of Cake" is a one woman operation!! Miya is a full-time social worker who runs this fabulous enterprise on the side and makes all the cupcakes herself in her own kitchen!! For the tasting, she invited us into her home and we sat at her dining room table with glasses of milk she poured for us and breakfasted on fresh cupcakes. $10 got us a tasting of 5 cupcakes for two (we each split one cupcake per flavor), and that $10 will be subtracted from our final order. We sampled the: 1) Classic Vanilla (with vanilla buttercream frosting), 2) Greater Pumpkin (pumpkin cake with vanilla cream cheese frosting and dulce de leche filling), 3) Life Gives You Lemons (lemon cake with lemon curd filling and lemon cream cheese frosting), 4) Rise n' Shine (french toast cake with maple cream cheese frosting and crumbled bacon), and 5) classic Red Velvet (with cream cheese frosting). They were all fantastic, but my personal favorites were the Rise n' Shine and the Greater Pumpkin. The pumpkin actually tasted like pumpkin and the rise n' shine like french toast--which is so rare for spice cakes! The prices are very reasonable for what you get (tinting the frosting and set-up and delivery are included). You can rent a tiered display rack for a modest fee and order custom cupcake liners at cost. Payments are handled through PayPal. I can't begin to express how excited we are for our wedding cupcakes, but we'll be sure to update this review come next fall!

Follow Sweet Costo on social media and you'll be the first to know when she's shipping out! I've had many marvelous treats from Sweet Costo, but my favorite is by far the S'mores Brownies. My family placed an order during her last offering and I am embarrassed at how quickly they went. They are the perfect amount of chewy but ironically NOT a giant sugar rush. You could sit there eating and eating them. I also sent some out as a gift to a friend on the covid frontlines and she LOVED them. Shipping was very reliable! Our other favorite item by Sweet Costo is her decadent macarons. The best part about Sweet Costo is that Shelby is a kind and good-hearted person. I always like to give my business to genuinely good people and I am blessed to know Shelby.

We had homemade brownies, cookies, carrot cake and apple pie as options at our holiday feast, and we still ate Donna's cake in less than a day! When it came time to try the cakes, we selected around 5 top rated cake places to try in the area. Frosted Cake Art was one of them. Mind you, before I review the cakes, know that Seema (Frosted Cake Art) is a home based business going up against long standing bakers, and the wedding venue itself which has over a dozen fine dining restaurants. We cannot complain about the other venues we sampled, however Seema's cakes were an obvious cut above the rest. "The Cake Tasting" itself was a beautiful experience, trying several frostings, cake types, and many fillings. Elegant and organized "The cakes" are consistently moist while still keeping their interior structure. We like to headline that point. Rare "The frostings" are ALL good. no alkaline taste, no granules, no empty taste, not hard like cold butter, nor are they too light and whippy. Smoothest texture you have ever experienced. Rare "The fillings" are exceptional. We wanted to use everyone of them. Even the more dramatic flavors we considered, although we didn't come in to the tasting thinking we would. All-in-all, for a small 75 person wedding, we decided to go with a multi flavored, 5 layer behemoth of a cake because we just wanted everyone to experience greatness. Greatness, folks Seema is a true professional. Seamless Seema. Aside from being a good baker, she has an excellent format of execution that sees the job through from beginning to end. She is patient and literally listens and applies all the details. She uses digital and actual templates throughout the process, willing to change and offer advice. Some fancy decorations we used....One was a "floating" top layer, giving a great effect. Another was a false cake layer where there was a statue of the bride and groom in a tunnel. She molded the bride and groom to spec. Seema used a picture of us both, plus a picture of the wedding dress. It was spot on and we plan on preserving this for life. God bless you, Seema.
