We went for lunch on a Friday so it was quiet but it is a popular take out spot. The server was attentive but not too attentive which was a nice balance. The food really hit the spot. The kadhai paneer was different than I was expecting but still delicious! Worth a try!

A five star Gem with Tandoori Perfection and Unbeatable Hospitality If you're anywhere near Pleasanton and even thinking about Indian food, do yourself a favor and head straight to Frontier Spice on the charming downtown Main Street. This place is a flavor bomb waiting to go off -- and their tandoori chicken? Absolutely next level. I've had tandoori chicken from dozens of places over the years, but Frontier Spice serves up the best I've ever tasted. Perfectly charred on the outside, juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of smoky spice. It's served sizzling hot, bursting with aroma, and it disappears from the plate faster than you can say "naan, please!" We love it so much we routinely order a second full serving just to take home to snack on for the next couple days. And I don't know what's in the green sauce that comes with it but it's absolute perfection. Chutney? Beyond the incredible food, what truly sets this place apart is the staff. Every single person we interacted with was warm, welcoming, and genuinely seemed to care that we were having a great experience. You're not just treated like a customer here -- you're treated like a guest. And in a world of rushed meals and indifferent service, that kind of hospitality goes a long way. On pleasant evenings we sit on the front courtyard to watch the world walk by. Whether you're dining in or picking up, Frontier Spice delivers on quality, flavor, and friendliness. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu -- but I already know I'll be reordering that tandoori chicken!

Not a bad lunch adventure Got there right as they opened didnt seem to get too busy early week Service: friendly Ambiance intimate, my eyes started to burn though I think they were cutting up onions or cooking on high heat and not good ventilation for the dining room Food Mango lassi fresh and cold how I like it Butter chicken good taste but lot of sauce over actual meat Lamb curry not my thing, lamb was gamey imo Paneer curry tasty! Garlic naan cooked perfectly All in all a decent meal

Delicious Indian food with good service in the heart of Pleasanton on Main Street. This small restaurant is clean, nicely decorated and feels like a more upscale but casual Indian restaurant. My husband and I have always enjoyed their food and recently dined with a group of 6 people. We enjoyed our delicious dinner! Some of my favorites- Tandoori Chicken-large platter of well seasoned tender chicken was a favorite! Garlic Naan-we couldn't get enough of their fresh garlic naan. Soft, chewy thin bread with toasty edges. Chicken Tikka-flavorful, thick sauce with tender chicken breast. Love the spices and heat. Butter Chicken-another favorite especially with my friends who don't love spicy. It's not overly creamy and the chicken was very tender. Chicken Biryani-beautiful presentation of a delicious chicken and rice dish! Delicious dinner and I highly recommend this Indian restaurant!

Someone recommended this place and it was a great experience! Tried the Somosa appetizer, butter chicken, biryani and Peshawari masala with garlic naan. Everything was tasty with a good balance of spices and flavor. Good service and reasonable prices. I would recommend this place for anyone who is dining in downtown Pleasanton. Note that pretty much everything has dairy products except for the vegetarian options.

We wanted to try an Indian place somewhere away from home and it was a hot day. We were able to sit outside with our dog which was a plus. The food was a little different and not the normal Indian food. Everything was good and the service was attentive.

This is my favorite Indian restaurant. I have been going here for years. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this restaurant. Let me start by saying that the people that works here are super nice and friendly. Shout out to CJ who remembers us by our name and he is just such an very nice person. We come here so much that CJ knows our regular favorites. During this visit we tried a new appetizer suggested by CJ Aloo Tiki Chat - its potato type appetizer with cottage cheese, and topped with tamarind and meat sauce. So good. Will order this again 5/5 We also ordered Garlic and Butter Naan which is always important to order and so good to dip in the sauces of dish to order. 5/5 Basmati Rice 5/5 - I don't know what it but the basmati rice here is so good I never leave the place without ordering extra. Butter Chicken 5/5 - the creaminess of the sauce and tenderness of the chicken and all the amazing spices and flavor makes me keep coming back for this place!AMAZING ! Warning if you order this dish you won't be able to stop eating! Thats how good it is. Subz Korma - 5/5 - similar to butter chicken the sauce is just to die for and the freshness of the vegetables cook to perfection is just so good. The vegetables are not overcooked you can taste a bit of a crunch on the cauliflower, peas, carrots, string beans and potatoes. Its like the seasoned then steamed to perfection and cooked in the sauce. It's like heaven in your mouth! Australian Lamb Rack - comes in a sizzling dish with sweet onions the lamb is seasoned with spices and grilled to perfection that is another favorite. 5/5 Potato and peas Samosa - its like an empanada with a kick! The dough of the samosa and the filling is just so prefect. Dip in their tamarind or mint sauce will sure satisfy your palate. 5/5 Every dish we ordered can be modified for its spiciness. Honestly if I rate this place above and beyond. I just love this place and I keep coming back. I will be back again this week! Note: some dishes not pictured I got excited when the food came and I forgot to take some of the photos. If you haven't tried tris place and you like Indian food you must try this because you are missing out!

This is second time visited this location with my friends for his birthday. The staff were very nice and helpful as they helped me a lot with the selection of the dishes. The dishes tasted super better than expected. Even the chief came and asked us about the food, that did we liked it or not. I would say this restaurant has the one of the best food that I have tried in recent time. I would also suggest others to visit there and try the chief special dishes.

This restaurant has tried to stand out from other Indian restaurants, trying to make it upscale. It's not actually a white cloth fine dining restaurant, but they have modified their flavors to not align with the common other Indian restaurants that we usually see..and most of them are enjoyable. The quantity of appetizers might not be all that interesting for few visitors , but it's surely worth a try.

I didn't try the chaat papdi but heard it was good. The paneer tikka was fine, but it was a little cold, and I wish it were crispier on the outside. For the mains, we got dal makhani, shahi paneer, and a bread basket of naans. We also tried the Amritsari kulcha with chole. I liked the dal and shahi paneer. The naan was soft and warm, and there was a good amount in the basket. The entrees were a little small, though. Service was fine, and the food was decent. Offerings: South India fare: soup, entrees, salads, entrees, vegetarian, non-vegetarian. Also pasta, India habachi. Bites: Dakshin Chicken Chettinad (18.99) med. Spicy. Small bowl with big spoon -boneless chicken pieces slowly braised in a savory with many spices (garlic, cumin, black pepper, star anise, funnel seeds, kok slaps...), south curry leaves, and coconut. I grabbed one of each not realizing each plate came with their own set of sauces and that they'd be rotating around to bring more if you needed. Whoops! Overall, food was fine and meal was obviously super fast, but it was a whirlwind and not necessarily kind of newcomers interested in trying the cuisine for the first time. Oh! I did get a chai which was lovely, but even that they give you a token which you redeem whenever you want your chai. Unfortunately, they shut down their lunch buffet during COVID and never brought it back. All the food at the other tables looked good so we decided to give it a try à la carte. We ordered chicken tikka masala, chicken vindaloo, and tandoori chicken. Since à la cart we als ordered two rice and one garlic naan to go with the curries. Serving sizes were good - not small at all but not huge either. Service was very friendly and consistent.. Tikka masala was thick and flavorful. Over the basmati rice was a perfect bite. Vindaloo was also juicy but felt that the sauce could have been a little thicker. Had also asked for super spicy vindaloo but it didn't feel that hot (but did make me sweat like crazy!). Tandoori was tasty but could have been juicier. Felt like it was precooked and warmed up versus being cooked fresh. The tandoori was a till very tasty though. Cost was a little on the high side since everything is à la carte (rice and naan extra). Three dishes, two rice and a garlic naan came out to $74 with leftovers. Lunch would have been $20-25 each if we only got two dishes instead of three. Overall we plan to return and try other menu items. The friendliness of the staff (I think she was the owner) alone would make us come back, but the food was yummy too! In fact, I think we will door dash some Ashoka for poker tonight!
