You can't beat it for the price and location which is convenient to Target, you can literally walk a path that cuts through from the apartment complex to the store. They have a CVS inside so I've found it extremely convenient for medications. The two cons I have is parking and neighbor noise, since we live in the first building, spaces are limited when other tenants have guests. I would like to see more parking added, as there is room to be developed all around the building. The tenants downstairs have a teenage daughter who's constantly having huge fights with the parents. I feel that a one bedroom apartment is too cramped for them and we have to suffer the consequences of listening to the arguing late at night and early morning. Lastly, Mary Corbo has been excellent. We take care of this apartment as it is a blessing to us, and I don't expect any issues when we leave. She has been fair and consistent, addressing any and all needs we have, as long as we bring them to her attention right away.

They do not take their tenants concerns seriously. After living at Setauket Knolls for a little over one year it took me four months to get my deposit back from them despite my lease saying it should be received within 2 months. Multiple phone calls were ignored. Email requests went unanswered. The same goes for the property management company, M D Carlisle Realty, who similarly did not respond to calls or requests for even an email response. Then when I finally received the deposit back they had subtracted a huge amount of money, nearly $400 claiming that they had to replace an entire countertop because of a few superficial scratches which they claimed were fresh "knife marks" despite the countertop being in only mediocre shape when I moved in. They will use the exorbitant deposit they request (ours was $3200 for a 13 month stay even though we worked at the local medical center and had more than adequate proof of income) to do the normal maintenance that is required for their apartments at your expense. The cheap materials they use here like their laminate countertops and vinyl tile flooring quickly wear out and they expect YOU, the tenant, to be responsible for the upkeep. This place isn't close to worth the hassle. There are many more places in the area where the staff are far more professional and responsive.

They have a party room but you can't use it! These are things that are included in our rent at almost &3,000 a month $2,850 plus a $50 fee to pay your rent! Come home from an afternoon out with my family and the ac doesn't work at this time it is hotter in my apartment then it is outside and only two fans in the unit both in the bedroom! I call maintenance and I get a call back I'm at a restaurant so your going to have to wait and hour to an hour and a half! You can check the batteries in the thermostat! The grounds always looo horrible all dead trees that attract bugs! One of the bugs being mosquitos that are absolutely horrendous to the pint I can not let my children play outside! When you ask through the portal blue to go about eliminating the bugs they delete it and don't respond to you at all! When I first moved in was winter had no heat for a few days! Refrigerator leaking all over the floor called maintenance multiple times to fix the problem they came didn't do anything! I finally got a new fridge after I stayed that if there is water damage I will not be paying the bill! This is not a play you want to live!

It wasn't the worst place but we were 100% ready to leave when our lease was up. Pros: We had great credit so we only had to put down a 500 dollar deposit. Awesome location, we are in our mid/late twenties and loved being able to walk to nightlife. Super pet friendly (even though they say no pitbulls or large dogs everyone had them but everyone was also professional and really good at cleaning up after them. No trashy dog people here) Really nice professional neighbors (a lot of graduate med students, software engineers, social workers etc) The balconies were tight but it was great to have an outdoor space. The maintenance guys were super nice* We actually received our deposit back but we were charged for new rugs. We were told rugs were included and they were old and tattered when we moved in. Wasn't worth the headache so we just bit the fee. Cons: Super small apartments. The "dinning alcove" was worthless and there isn't a good wall the set a TV up and put a couch in front of it. We tried every conceivable set up and they all failed. Very cramped. Outdated apartments. Carpets were torn and stained when we moved in and the paint was literally peeling off the walls. You could tell the kitchen had flooded previously because the floor was soft in front of the sink. Expensive for the space you get. We have an apartment twice the size for literally the same price right outside NYC. Although we no longer have an outdoor space we have assigned parking and two bedrooms with a huge living/dinning room. Crazy amounts of spiders.....eeck Not enough parking spaces. Some two bedrooms had 4 people, so 4 cars. We lived in the last unit on presidents drive and we would have park by the other units because there were like ten spaces total. Plowing in the winter is a joke. These apartments are on a very steep hill to enter. The plow guys would never come and I missed a lot of work (and got in trouble for it) because Fairfield found the cheapest company to plow. It was a tiny truck with a plow on it. When coming home late from work in the snow and dark none of our cars could make it so you would see cars abandoned down at the bottom on the narrow to lane road or we would have to park all the way by the highschool and then walk back. It was easily a 15 min walk in freezing temperatures and snow. Whenever we would call to complain there attitude was too bad. Although the maintenance guys were sweet as pie, they were overworked. All of Fairfield's complexes were covered by these poor overworked and underpaid workers. There just wasn't enough people for the amount of work that needed to be done. Paper thin walls. You could hear everything. They didn't send you your rent bill until the 1st of the month, so when there were holidays that messed up the mail schedule Fairfield would charge you late fees. Paying online is a joke, its an extra 20 dollars a month to pay online. That's 240 dollars a year in fees for the "convenience" to pay online. (It costs 25 cents per online transaction. Why are you charging me a fee?) There were a couple of incidents (domestic violence) were the cops had to be called. I witnessed a fight outside where the husband/boyfriend was hitting his partner. This wasn't the first time the cops had been called on him, although the women would change every so often. When I called to ask about what could be done about a violent individual residing next to us (several female tenants complained about feeling unsafe). I was told it wasn't Fairfield's problem. Two small closets for the entire apartment. Storage was non existent. Two washers and two dryers for 8 units. They were small and outdated. They cost 2.75 and no matter what setting you picked it was scalding hot water. We wound up bring our laundry to Sunshine laundry mat which had brand new washers that were bigger for the same price. We had great neighbors and a nice location but we couldn't wait to get out of there. For the money the place is a rip off. The winter alone, dealing with the plow people made us hate the place. Uncaring staff aside from the onsite workers.

They limit what and how the maintenance men can fix things. A leak? Paint over it. Water stains ( from another leak)? Paint over it. Huge gap under your front door? A piece of material tacked onto the bottom so it shreds, and falls off and it requires extras strength muscles to use it. Drug dealers with violent incidents? Not our problem No heat in your bedroom? Sorry I don't know what to tell you. Huge draft from the ac unit? I'll try. (Didn't work) If you want to talk to someone in the office....good luck. They literally didn't get back to me til April from my numerous phone calls since February. Want an email back ? Good luck with that. Still haven't heard back from billing. I got sent a $0 rent bill. Wanted to pay them and find out what was going on...still no answer back. I also called about this...no answer. I won't even go into them messing up our transfer from one property to another (a bigger place paying them more rent...you'd think they'd be on the ball since they're money hungry assholes). To rectify mistakes their workers caused, I was directed by secretaries to call the worker myself and tell her what fairfield needs her to do. Wait , what? You can't even inform your own employees on how to do their jobs ? Just stay away. It's not worth the headaches and stress. I'd rather go to a homeless shelter than renew a lease here.

The walls are paper thin all around, you hear all the foot steps at all hours of night. I've found bed bugs, spiders, crickets and roaches getting in my unit. Most tenants are too lazy to walk their garbage to the dumpster and leave it on their porches instead. It's ALWAYS freezing, the baseboards make loud banging noises EVERY time the water runs through them. Just imagine you're sound asleep and it sounds like a gun went off. The units are very nice but they are overpriced. Not worth it. Cannot wait to get out of here. UPDATE 2/27/2018--- after they had an exterminator come (whom I observed only spray my bedroom and along a few walls) I found a bed bug yet again. They're definitely coming in from a nearby unit because I only find them one at a time but it's the most frustrating experience I've ever dealt with. To think that at any moment my brand new mattress and my belongings can become infested is extremely aggravating. I had to pack every item in my apartment for the extermination. Went through every single item in my unit to thoroughly check for bugs and washed every article of clothing/linen I own. All they offer is to "treat" again. Remind you, these units are extremely overpriced for the living conditions. Wish I could get a little more heat!!! You get a cold draft through ALL your windows and the baseboards bang every time the heat kicks on (which you only get a high or low setting on your thermostat.) And almost all the tenants in the complex leave their garbage on their patio which attracts more bugs and rodents. Since I work in the city, I thought The Alston would be convenient for me to catch the train into the city. We went in to get a tour of the apartments. We went in on a Thursday at 1pm. The gal at the front desk greeted us but referred to us by a different name (mistook us for another client). She asked us if we had an appointment which we replied we didn't. She then preceded to tell us she is fully booked for the afternoon and would have to come back some other time. In the meantime another associate is sitting next to her did not offered his availability. She then started telling us about the rental costs and if we needed a co-signer for our place, they can accommodate that as well. Hold up a sec! Now, my wife and I are in our lower fifties. Have credit scores above the 750 mark and I hold a job with a Fortune 20 company. Not to mention we just pulled up in a brand new Audi. The associate never asked anything about what we were looking for. Didn't give us a brochure and pricing sheet. When asked for one, she informed us we can go online to find out everything. She reiterated they can take a 3rd person co-signer to get the application in. We were appalled and walked out. Maybe it was due to my skin color or age? I was told when moving in there would be "some" construction being done. There has been construction going on since February. They do not take care of the properties that are in the process of the exterior being remodeled. (Don't mow the lawn, pick up trash etc) The construction workers leave nails , garbage and material everywhere. You would think they would clean up their trash after a days of work but they don't and it is left everywhere. My dog has almost stepped on nails multiple times. There are random poles sticking out of the ground. For the amount of money rent is you would think they would take better care of the property or at least answer a call/ email. I am embarrassed to have people at my apartment because of the way the exterior looks. Terrance in the front office is the only good thing about this apartment complex. Save yourself the headache and don't move here.
