Well we are in Ohio and staying at the Frontier Campground. Great location out on the farms and great trees throughout the entire Campground. We were met by the owner, Walter, and what a nice guy. He was very professional and willing to do what it takes to make our set up and stay an enjoyable time. I felt pretty safe after seeing the Glock .40 caliber in his back pocket. I would give this place an 8.7. It would be higher but the sites are tight and close to each other. Be safe! I just read the review where the $30.00 wasn't returned and the problem the guy and his team had. We are glad it didn't happen to us. So far so good. read more

My husband and I had a terrible experience at frontier. We had hoped to stay all summer and fall, but like so many other reviewers it turned out to be a nightmare. The only positive review I read were our neighbors. They and Walter appeared to be joined at the hip. They were constantly complaining to Walt about us. He only complained about things like "an unsightly board that was raised up on one end." Mind you it was underneath our RV. Originally we were supposed to be near the front, but he decided our RV was unsightly and so he moved us to the back of the park. While our RV is old and generally well worn, it was not as bad as many others in the campground. The reviews about Walt carrying a gun is correct. He and the neighbors carried guns. I'm not pro guns but regardless carrying weapons does not seem reasonable in this setting. when we went to take our RV out for repairs, Walter told our son that we were not welcome back. All this time, I had been feeling like we weren't welcome and he only confirmed it. How bad could a senior middle class couple be. We both well educated, had successful careers and generally stayed to ourselves. I would never recommend this place to anyone of any age. read more

A little back ground. We are originally from Texas. Ended up moving to North Carolina now moving to Ohio. I just recently had a baby 12/11/21. She's a micropreemie born at 26 weeks. I had got ahold of frontier Campground to reserve a spot for when my sweet baby gets out of the NICU. We paid our first deposit to hold that spot since there had been a high demand for a RV spot due to the GE plant. Well, we tried paying our second deposit and got completely GHOSTED. The guy knew what was going on and the only thing we were waiting on was for my baby to come home from being in the NICU --going on 11 weeks. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND this rv Campground.... I'm thankful we didn't do a second deposit. I hope this helps another Rv'er. Because to me that's completely and utterly messed up!! read more

Avoid Frontier Campground near Waynesville, Ohio Unless You Like to Suffer Unavailability. It immediately became obvious that Walter was never easy to contact, either by phone or in his office, regardless of posted hours. He was typically not available when needed and makes no effort to be otherwise. If you suggested that you tried to contact him without success, he would launch into a long diatribe of how busy he is, how you obviously expected too much, a litany of all he has suffered, ad nauseam. It's all about him - very narcissistic. The door often remained locked even though the sign said "Open." Sometimes he would park his jeep or cart right smack in front of the doorway which meant you had to climb over it to get to the door. The quickest way to get his attention would be to violate one of his many rules - a very long list. He seemed to enjoy studying all his cameras and dealing with "lawbreakers" - usually telling them to leave. He often bragged how he saw everything that was happening at the camp. That should make us feel safer, but somehow he seems like the greatest threat. If we were able to actually locate him, he frequently seemed incapable of decent conversation. He was often argumentative, defensive, rude, unreasonable, demonstrating zero interest in actually providing satisfactory service or resolving any concern. Usually he treated us like we were imposing on him. Very blaming. Irresponsibility and Poor Service Although the website indicated a well-run campground, yet in reality he failed to meet even minimum expectations. Anyone who claims it's wonderful is senseless or Walter is writing his own testimonials. The campground is run-down. Walter does make improvements, but then clutters it up. When we first arrived we were shocked at the run-down condition of the playground that looked unsafe. He has since tried to fix it up a bit, but it's not what we would call a safe place for children to play for the 3 years we spent at the camp. I checked out one of the cabins, thinking I would rent it for our daughter and her husband to come visit. I could not believe he was charging $100 a night for what I saw. It wasn't worth half that. The website describes them as "rustic and cozy" which really means old and bare minimum. We arranged for our kids coming from out-of-state to stay 20 miles away at a very nice Hilton for the same price! The bathrooms were typically unserviced, dirty, unheated, lacking toilet paper, At times it was so bad, we were embarrassed for any of our visitors to use them and would warn against it. As one reviewer said it so well, " they looked like someone "washed livestock in them." Mail delivery was not only a sad joke but a violation. Walter failed to sort or deliver mail regularly, then blatantly denied that any of our mail was delivered for a couple weeks and blamed the postal service. Then suddenly he'd present us with a stack of mail with postal dates 3-5 weeks old. This happened to us many times. Christmas and Birthday cards were delivered sometimes two months late, several checks disappeared, issued credit cards vanished. Once we received a court notice regarding jury duty three weeks late! Electrical Issues. Our power source was faulty. We struggled with repeated outages. When we spoke to Walter about it, we were met with one of his defensive rants, how no one else complains about that issue and we were the only ones and it had to be our RV. As a result, the campground problem blew out our expensive Progressive Surge Protector, our new inverter for our solar system, our 3 year-old converter, the power board on our new electric refrigerator, and damaged our GFI. We were fortunate not to have a fire. We were new at RV life and after we finally moved, spent a couple thousand dollars to repair everything, but later were told we should have sued his pants off. Paranoid. His selfish suspicious nature led him to distrust nearly everyone. Apparently there were some exceptions. He bragged about carrying a gun and how he has cameras all around the campground and can see everything people are doing. It's nice to know we have security. However, when security is in the hands of an unstable, paranoid person, it's threatening. We choose to be kind and considerate, without provocation, yet Walter belittled, intimidated, and offered thinly veiled unprovoked threats even to us on several occasions about evicting us if we were not happy. We avoided him like the plague. If you have any sense, you will, too. We finally escaped when someone offered to haul our 5th wheel to another campground that finally had an opening. Olive Branch Campground is about 30 minutes away, spacious, clean, beautiful, with helpful, responsible staff and considerate management! Camp heaven! read more

I would not stay there if physical health is one of your priorities. We booked for an extended long term stay and had to move after about 1.5 months once we could make other arrangements for my wife who had to move to Ohio to care for her mother. The day we got there we plugged in and noticed the electrical post was wired wrong and was showing reverse polarity. We informed the management / owner, he treated us like crap and did nothing. I had to rewire where the wires came into my RV to fix the issue. Also, and the most disturbing, was that the fitting to screw the sewer hose was either ran over with a previous RV or by the lawn mower, was sheered off, and the hose would not attach. Once again, inquired with the owner and he ignored it. I had to spend money to go to Lowes, buy the parts, and fix it myself. Also, about 5 feet from the sewer connection was a sewer clean out pipe that was not covered and sealed. Us and the people next to us complained, the owner did nothing. What was happening was that every time we drained the black tank the piss and crap from the black tank would come out the pipe and sit on the ground. Smelly and unsanitary. Another problem was flooding. When it rained the electrical posts were sitting in their own pool of water, causing an extreme safety issue. These issues alone should have the health department close them down. Another issue, that made many we spoke with feel uncomfortable is that the owner and assistant packed a gun on their hip. I am all for conceal carry, as I do myself, but when you have clients and children around who may be uncomfortable with visible guns, all the staff needed to do was allow their shirt to cover the gun and get it out of view. No. consideration for anyone else. Lastly, as my wife would say, the owner gives her creeps. He was a very strange individual. When we went to pay for the second month, he asked us how long we were staying because "we had a lot of problems". They wouldn't be problems if the jerk fixed issues and maintained his park. He tried to blame everything on his broken foot, but don't be a cheap ass and hire someone to help out. He told us that he could use the spot as it is his main part of the season and he is booked full. We went up this past week to pick up our RV and there was only about 50% occupancy. Apparently he isn't as popular as he wished he was. At the rate he is driving customers away, it won't be long before the place is for sale. If you choose to stay there... good luck! read more

I've been trying or 2 weeks to confirm a reservation at this place. Seeing the note on the website about the owner's injury, and not having received a reply to my emails, texts and voicemails, I thought maybe they were out of business. Probing a little bit closer, I came across these reviews citing the owner's belligerence and the safety/sanitary issues. I won't be staying here that is for sure. read more

Our review is not a great one, the manager is rude to his renters, he is un trust worthy, he is homophobic, he over charges for power he does not say what he means when he says that if there is anything customers ever need anything or fixed (Walter) is a liar in business practices, the water smells bad and the electric power boxes need work because we were pluged into one that was faulty..be very on guard. I've read all of the reviews, on all of the various sites, and it seems Walter gives us all the creeps, and is a less than stellar business owner. I wish I had read the reviews before I gave this man my credit card number. I called in July, and inquired about reserving a full hook up space for 1 month, for my employee. I asked about their pet rules, and I asked if they had any age restrictions on units, as my employee's trailer is an retro trailer, that's been a labor of love to be restored over the years. We discussed that their pets were ok, and that there were no trailer age restrictions. I called back the next week, happened to get Walter on the phone, and paid for the month in full, and a receipt was emailed. A month and a half later, my employee showed up, after driving 1000 miles, and called me to say he'd arrived at the campground, and that Walter was denying his entry. He said that Walter did not like his trailer, and was basically insinuating that he was a drug dealer. I asked to speak to Walter. Walter said that he did not like the appearance of the trailer, and I reiterated that I had asked about trailer age restrictions, and that there were none. He said, again, that there weren't, but that he just thought it was ugly. I said, "sir, this is an old trailer, that is being restored, as I mentioned when I made the reservation. They're not moving in, they're staying for 1 month, and I've already paid you $515 in full." He said "the money was not a problem, I'll get you a full refund. They just can't stay here." He then went on to say they're "just kids." I said they're 20 years old, and they manage my company, and do an amazing job." He refused to let them stay. I found them a different local campground, and after 1000 miles and this frustration, they towed to a place where they were more welcome. A while later, a credit showed up on my account, not for the $515 I paid, but for $485. I called and asked for Walter. I explained who I was, and he remembered. I told him the discrepancy over the refund amount, and that it was missing $30 and asked if there had been some sort of mistake. The next five minutes proceeded to be a bizarre conversation of him telling me that he had "fees to pay and whatnot" and that he had been "put out." I asked what fees and he said "credit card processing fees." He said the fees are $15 per $500. I explained that I was also a business owner, and that you don't charge your customers additional credit card fees ESPECIALLY when they never stayed there, and ESPECIALLY when issuing a REFUND due to discriminating and not allowing someone to stay there! He debated me on credit card processing fees some more, and I again told him that I wanted my $30 back, as no services were rendered. He refused. I told Walter that I was holding off writing my reviews, in hopes that we could resolve this situation, as horrible as it had already been. He refused again, then proceeded to tell me "I don't care. Give me a 1 star review. See if I care. I'm packed in here. No one cares what you have to say. I'll deny everything." Then things got downright creepy when he said "If you write a bad review, I'll post pictures I took of that trailer and your employees." Um. They were there for 30 minutes and YOU TOOK PICTURES of them and their trailer!?!? Oh. My. God. How insane and creepy ARE you?!?! I told Walter "good luck." and hung up. I then called my bank, told them this story, and asked if I could please open a dispute. They said "absolutely." They said that what he had said was not accurate, that they would be refunding our $30 today, and they were opening up a fraud case against Frontier Campground, and would recoup their money that way. We lived in cabin 9 and cabin7 for a few months.We was happier there than any where we ever stayed.Walter and Chelsey was so good to us.They made us feel like friends and family.We would live there forever if they would have us.It is the most beautiful and most peaceful campground we have ever stayed at. read more

Creepy and confrontational owner. Sent us in the wrong loop road to a pull-thru site which should've been more like a back-thru site for us considering we have a 37 ft. travel trailer which we can't make as tight of turns with unlike Class As and 5th wheels. We couldn't get around a giant mature tree at one end of the site without caving the side of our trailer in so we were moved to another site. It had been raining for weeks and our site didn't have near enough gravel so we kept sinking and had to move several times to try to find harder ground. While doing that, we must've pulled too far forward and put tire marks in some grass across from our site (takes a lot of space to maneuver a 17 ft. truck and 37 ft. travel trailer). Shortly after we got settled and were trying to relax after a stressful drive and set up, the owner came banging on our door complaining about the tire marks and ridiculing, saying he's never seen anyone do something like that which I find hard to believe since it's a campground. Basically, he was trying to bully us because we look young (40s btw) but it didn't take long for him to realize we weren't going to put up with it. The tire marks were an accident and there was no reason to approach us the way he did. My husband ended up offering to pay him $50 for grass seed but he wouldn't take it. We knew we were taking a chance staying at this campground because we had read all of the bad reviews, but the only other campground in the area was full so we had no choice. The owner brags about how well he's doing and how full his campground is but I'm pretty sure most of the campers there are people who are working in the area. Some info about the campground--off the beaten path but easy to get to. It used to be a mobile home park. The back side of the campground is actually still a mobile home park and looks rough. A good bit of the sites are too close together, especially the pull-thrus. Our neighbor's awning was about an inch from touching our trailer and if they had lit a fire our trailer probably would've went up in flames. Our site was so small we couldn't have sat outside even if we wanted to. Every site has to share a water hookup so depending what side of it you're on you have to run your hose under your trailer to the side your door is on and try not to trip over it every time you go in and out. I'm not sure about other sites but ours had no sewer cap. The kid's playhouse looked rough and was falling apart, and the dog yard is mostly gravel and weeds. We ended up leaving early. Couldn't imagine staying there any longer. Read the reviews and don't make the same mistake we did!!! read more
