We recently did the Presqu'ile National Park & Old Mill Alpacas day trip. We had lots of fun…read moredespite the iffy weather. Our tour guide Charmaine is very organized & friendly. It was so nice that everything was laid out clearly. We knew how much time we had for each activity. Our first stop was to the national park. We were getting intermittent rain alternating with sunshine so it was pretty wet. Also the park is on marshlands so even more wet than normal land! lol. We got dropped off by one of the board walking trails. It's very scenic & beautiful despite the rain. The sun came out at times. So nice to get some fresh air & there were birds, frogs, fish all around. Our next stop was at the Presqu'ile lighthouse, beach & visitor center (all near each other). The beach is small & rocky but it was so nice to be near the water. After the lighthouse we got to wander around the small visitor center. It has two single washrooms, a small history room, & a small gift shop. Next was our lunch stop at the Big Apple. There are around 4 food trucks outside the main building. There's a petting zoo also. Inside the main building there are washrooms, a candy store, baked goods, souvenirs, a burger joint & a bar. I liked the big apple but it would be hard to get there without a car. I liked that we got to pay for our own lunch because that also meant we could get whatever we want. Sometimes the day trips include lunch & has a limited menu especially for people with food intolerances. After lunch we got to go to Old Mill Alpacas. Here we got to feed the alpacas, and walk the alpacas. The owner of the farm also did a quick talk about alpacas. It was very interesting! Because of the rain it was muddy of course so we got dirty but I didn't mind as I was prepared with my waterproof boots. Also short trips informed us of weather conditions in an email before the day trip. After the alpacas we had a 30 mins break for dinner at a highway enroute rest stop. Too bad these enroute places don't have better food options. Anyway short trips has no control over that. Our drop off was on time. Overall we really enjoyed our tour with short trips. We would go on another tour with them for sure. Since we don't drive or have a car this is a really nice way to see parts in Ontario we wouldn't normally be able to see.

Our guide Tim picked us up at the Fallsview Casino, which was convenient for us, before we picked up one more group of 2. The small group of us (4 plus Tim) was just the right size. Tim was very knowedgeable both about wine and the Niagra region. He took the time to get to know each of us and what tastes were like in wine. We stopped at 4 wineries (all were equally delicious, although I'd have to say my favorite was the red Ice Wine from Vineland) and each time Tim brought us inside, introduced us to the staff, and helped offer suggestions based on what he had learned about us. We also learned the proper way to taste at our very first stop. This was a welcome change from other tours we have done in the past where the tour bus simply stops in the parking lot while you go inside, sample, then come out when you are ready to leave. This was much more personable and made for an excellent tour experience. In addition to the 4 wineries we stopped at the Upper Canada Cheese company to sample their fine cheeses, as well as stopped mid-day in Jordan Village for lunch. The tour was well structured and you had plenty of time to shop after each tasting as well if you wanted to (although none of the wineries/staff were pushy in any way whatsoever.) Overall it was a great day, great experience, and I would certainly consider other future tours with Discovery.

Our tour director, Eliane, was knowledgeable and entertaining. Roxanne, our driver, was amazing as she navigated Manhattan traffic, taking the bus through spots that most would avoid even in a compact car. The bus itself was clean, although the seats were less than comfortable for such a long drive, even with frequent rest stops. The hotel was lovely, and breakfasts were very good. We likely will not do another bus tour, preferring to set our own schedule, but this was an excellent way to see New York for the first time.

Our Tour Director was Natasha and Driver named Miriam on a Kunkel coach bus. The trip was scheduled for travel on day 1 and 4. Day 2 and 3 was a guided tour and happened to be two of the hottest & humid days in NYC; 90 followed by 100 degrees temperature only! The hotel was very nice and the guided part of the trip was just enough history and information about the sights to make it a very memorable vacation. Crossing the border was an unbelievable experience, both TO in record time and BACK having the bus searched, all luggage and all passengers had to carry in all their belongings & purchases into the Customs office for processing. Thank you Natasha and Miriam for making it an exciting adventure!

Again one of those must do's while here in Niagara falls. Is…read moreit crowded? Yes but the lines move fast as there are plenty of boats. The provide a poncho (way better than the cave of the winds poncho, if you are doing both, save this one), the poncho of course is to protect you from the water, because that is what poncho's do. You have two choices here. 1) You can stay on the bottom deck of the boat, and I hear you can remain fairly dry, but I cannot attest to that as, you are at Niagara Falls, you should be on the top deck, getting wet! 2) The Top deck, the Upper decker, they have some seating up here, and great views. The boat navigates so that all sides of the boat get equal views of the falls and get to experience the massive mist generated, no it's not raining on you it's the falls. So, don't be one of those pushing into people/groups to get your shot, be patient you will get your turn. Yes there will be people taking selfies for the entire duration or groupies (not sure what its called if its more than 1), Yes they will claim part of the deck for the entire trip, this is easy resolved with a gentle nudge as they enjoy a small quick journey overboard and get the VIP experience. Wait no, don't actually do that, just ask people to move and/or take a picture of you with the falls in the background. Everyone was friendly!

I mean there's also Cave of the Winds but that's a more intense experience. I decided to visit during late afternoon so there wasn't much of a crowd. They load the ships every 20 minutes or so as each trip takes about 20 minutes. Definitely wear waterproof clothing or clothing that easily dries if you can because from the knees down, it will get soaked and maybe the sleeves too. I put my phone into a waterproof bag to capture the ride and a good thing I did because otherwise it would've gotten drenched. Tickets can be pre-purchased online or day of. Check the hours before visiting as they change depending on the season. An elevator took me down to the bottom where I got my poncho and lined up to board the ship. Apparently these ponchos are thicker than the ones at Cave of the Winds (so the rumors say). I made sure to pull the hood on tight and secured it with the plastic strings and it definitely held up against the waterfall winds! I got a blue one when I visited but noticed the next day, they were handing out red ones (twinsies with the Canadian Hornblower). Top deck is the spot to be to get the best experience. The ship brings us by one of the falls that has a light mist blowing towards us with a gentle wind. Then as we got closer to Horseshoe Falls, boy could I feel the wind and mist blowing my poncho around. My sleeves, pants and shoes were drenched and the water was blowing so fast at me that I could barely see! It was actually so much fun to experience! How else can I get this close to the falls? Wearing sunglasses also helped to keep some of the water out of my eyes. The ship stayed there for quite a while before making a U turn to head back to land. It really felt like I was in the middle of a torrential downpour. Afterwards, take another elevator up to the observation deck to get another great view of the Niagara Falls. Honestly this was so much fun, I definitely want to try the Canadian version too next time! And maybe Cave of the Winds (on Goat Island).
