The french toast was really good! I wouldn't say it was the best I have ever had, but it was pretty awesome. The portion is big, so I recommend sharing with others. We also ordered the crab and shrimp omelette, liked it a lot as well mainly because it was really fully loaded with crab meat (chunks of it) and shrimps inside. It was also a great place for dogs! My favorite breakfast place in Carmel. The portions are huge half the time me and my husband split it. They have the best Traditional Eggs Benedict according to my husband. I love the veggie eggs Benedict and they let us do half and half which I think is awesome. The also have a great huevos rancheros and pretty much everything else we have had here is awesome. Those are just my two favs. They have fresh preserves to put on your toast and I have never had a bad experience. Ordered an omelette (onion, swiss, beef chirizo, mushroom & spinach) but got green onion instead of regular onions. It an ok omelette though. I really liked the crunchy potatoes that came with it. I ordered the eggs benedict. Egg was cooked solid. Ham under egg was good but I prefer Canadian bacon. I wouldn't order again. Disappointed. Should have been a 1-star. Went this morning, waited 30-minutes (we were told only a 15-minute wait) and we were still waiting until we complained about the wait. We ordered right away but it took more than 35 minutes to get our food. Only had 10minutes to eat because my daughter had to be somewhere, we didn't appreciate having to eat in a hurry. Place is nestled in shopping complex, and was a little hard to find. It was a little after 10am on a Sat and were surprised to be seated immediately. A nice man came to get our drink order (he was not our waiter). We waited about 20 mins before we asked the gentlemen who brought our drinks if he knew who our waiter was as they still had not come by. He apologized and made an inquiry to a waiter about who would be taking our order. At this point our assigned waiter, I believe his name was John(?), came to take our order. He made no apology or make any reference to excuse his delay. He very dryly took our order. An order that took 35 mins to get. I ordered eggs Benedict and my sister ordered the Sausage Biscuit & Gravy. My EB came with red potatoes, which were luke warm. One of the toast for the EB was burnt (making it too difficult to cut) while the other was half toasted. My sister's order came with grits which were also a bit cold. The hot sauce at table (their own brand available for sale) was near empty and I placed out to have it refilled with no avail. Our table was in the center and we were constantly bumped into by staff jolting our drinks, again with no apology. Restrooms were filthy. Floor appeared as though it had never been cleaned. It was dirty and the grime within the grout was disgusting. Place is over-rated and the quality and service (lack of) received is not worthy. read more

We came here twice during our short trip to Carmel. The first time on a Sunday and we had to wait a short time but enjoyed wandering around The Barnyard. The second time was during the week and we were able to sit in outdoor section which is really nice. The food is good and, as others have pointed out, the portions are huge. The bacon is so thick, yet very crispy. Pancakes are fluffy and not dense, given their size. All the egg entrees we tried were good. Very fresh veggie omelette - I don't know how they get the eggs that fluffy! A good place to eat. read more

Fantastic breakfasts - fun location, outdoor patio with heaters and quaint inside. Can get crowded but they are very good at moving people in and out (without diners feeling pressured). My wife and I have been eating here for over 10 years. Whenever we go to Monterey/Carmel, we make a point of eating at least one breakfast at From Scratch. Simply put, it's one of the best breakfasts made from fresh ingredients you can find and good coffee too. I had hot tea (good Stash tea selection) and a Carmel Omelet - bacon, mushrooms, Swiss cheese and avocado. I asked to add sour cream, chose fruit rather than potatoes and a cheese biscuit. Total $20.00 (sans tip) seemed steep but it is Carmel. The biscuit was good and big and came with butter and jam. The fruit was nice in that they took time to slice a little banana in prior to serving and it seemed fresh. Sadly, my omelet was almost inedible. It was crazy salty. Had the avocado and sour cream not been there to mellow it out, it would have been too salty to eat. Not sure if there was a mistake in the kitchen and judging from the other reviews, there may have been... I may try this joint again for the friendly service and quality ingredients but overall it was too expensive for a bad egg dish. read more
