If you're in the area "From Scratch" is a must try. It was a long day and we were hungry. Their restaurant was just below where we were staying, so we stopped in. As soon as I entered into their restraint I was greeted with smiles and warmth. We were going to take it to go, but because of the warm welcome we pulled up a seat outside and enjoyed our dinner. My wife and I had the pull pork poutine. My kids had the cheese pizza, which is baked in their fire brick oven! The other two had the Chicken Korma and cheese burger. Both were good but my favorite was the poutine fries! The flavor and amount was perfect. We accompanied the fries with some local beers and wines. Everything was delicious! Remember they don't take Amex. And you have to order at the counter. They are fast in prepping . And serving. They have a great selection of local foods and gifts as well. * well we returned! We ordered a veg scramble, baked eggs and a chocolate nut cake. The veg scrambled was filled with potatoes with hardly any tofu in it for 20$ ?!? Wtf Chocolate cake was served cold and it was dry Baked eggs was trash , even the sourdough bread wasn't great. To top it off the device is not great either. Not many places open today but that worked in our favour today. Instead of going somewhere right next to the highway we went up a street and found "From Scratch". Winner of a Gold Plate award for one of the best places to eat in Canada . We tried the asparagus soup and the mushroom bruschetta and the lemon tart. I also had the homemade berry soda which was really really good, made from local berries picked in 2019. All of the food was good but we especially like the mushroom bruschetta and the lemon tart which came with a berry compote and whipped cream. What a great find. Nice people too! read more

Ordered a burger and truffle fries for take out, and was disappointed. Not sure if it was an off night but it certainly was not worth the $25 + dollars it cost. The bun: Homemade, but it is not the right bun for a burger as it is way too dense. The meat: It had some seasoning I think but man was it ever dry and overcooked. The rest: lettuce, tomato, onion, maybe a smidge of mayo on this thing and that's it...no ketchup, no mustard, no sauce, no cheese. cost? $21.95. Wow. Want to add cheese? $2.25. Want chipotle sauce? Add $2.25. Want BBQ sauce? Add $2.25. To get some liquid on this overly dry burger on a overly dense bun willl cost you a lot of coin on top of the already hefty prices for a plain ol' burger. Parmesan Truffle Fries. Hardly any truffle flavour at all, I think as a side alone these were $12. Not worth that at all. My wife and I paid $60 for 2 dry burgers with limited toppings and flavourless truffle fries. My advice, don't bother with the burgers. Menu does look good, service was good, prices a bit on the high side, but for the burger they are outrageous. read more

This little place is located right on the way to fairmont hot springs and has ample parking. The inside has a great atmosphere and hipster vibe which I thought was very cozy. They had a little store inside and the price range was great for the portions. They didn't have that much sitting space inside though. The food tasted great for most of the plates, and was very standard in the flavor range. They did have great home made gluten free bread though so we ended up buying a loaf. The service was very confusing. They brought you menus and brought your food, but they didn't want to come over and take your order. So I guess they expected the entire party of six to go up to order? But when they brought the food out they of course didn't know who had what. Also, my water glass was not refilled until I asked for more water, even though they came by a few times to see how we were doing. A little weird that they couldn't add the small service of taking our order as that would not have disrupted the dining experience. But over all I think it's a cute place and family owned with the food really tasting fresh and from scratch. read more

From Scratch is a nice valley brunch option. Their wood-fire baked offerings are very delicious. Note the ordering process is a tad atypical in that you have to go order from the counter and they bring the food to you. The pitfall being you may get seated where you want and then lose your seat when you go to order. Overall, we like From Scratch a lot and come here semi-routinely. This place is great to have around the Fairmont Hot Springs area. There aren't that many places in the direct Fairmont area so I was glad to see something new. Especially a classy restaurant like this. The Cons: The interior of this place is absolutely fantastic and modern. But you have to order at the front though which I kind of think is a bit tasteless for the look of this place. They do have servers anyway, so I don't know why your seated customers would have to order at a till as if this was some kind of fast food place or something. But whatever, that's how it works here. We had the Bruschetta first. This was by far my LEAST favourite thing I tried off the menu. It looks really appetizing, but its just bruschetta on 1 solitary piece of bread. We had 3 people who wanted to share it. It's an appetizer, make it sharable. We had to get our butter knife and cut the piece of bread into shareable pieces. I have never seen Bruschetta served like this and I was not a fan. I don't understand why you would make it hard to share with each other? It also came with a side of mixed salad leaves what tasted unwashed and completely disgusting to be honest. We didn't eat those. The Pros: Ok this is where is gets good. Like I said before the place is beautiful on the inside. I had the Thai Green Curry for dinner. It wasn't anywhere near actual Thai Green Curry but it was it's own kind of spin on it. It was delicious and hearty. There were a lot of veggies inside of it and the ride was yummy. It was good and I was really happy with my choice. I also tried their chocolate mousse. It was delicious and comes in a tiny mason jar that they seal for you and let you take home. I really liked that. It was rich and creamy and it actually stayed as mousse for the time I was eating it. Good quality for sure. They also have this iced tea berry drink. It was amazingly good. I'm so glad I ordered it. The service was good, and the people working here seemed friendly enough. Lots of smiles all around. Food came out in a decent amount of time. You can actually see the chefs at work because the restaurant is very open. I have to say that I was really impressed by the inside of this place. Conclusion: I'm so glad a nice restaurant like this opened in Fairmont. I have been coming here every summer since I can remember and it's nice to see something of good quality opening up here instead of closing down. I really hope there are good things in store for this place and it stays open for as long as possible. Hope to see it again when I get back down to Fairmont. :) read more

Myself and my 4 kids went in for a late lunch and boy were we not disappointed! Greeted promptly even though it's a "seat yourself" establishment. Staff were so friendly and the food was AMAZING! I am a huge charcuterie fan and this was the best charcuterie board I have had! My kids got a poutine, mac n cheese w/bacon and 2 burgers. This is an edit after inconsistent service. It really depends on who you get when you come in. One time everyone was nice the next day I could not even get a cup of coffee (but they charged for it anyways) Try the delicious oven baked eggs cooked in a real brick fire oven. Or ask the "tea expert" working the counter for a tasty tea. Staff was incredibly friendly and made good recommendations for us on what to eat and where knowledgable about the surrounding area. Everything about this place deserves 5 stars. The staff working was friendly and attentive to the needs of customers, and the atmosphere was very welcoming once we entered the restaurant. My friends and I stopped here for lunch on our way back to the states, and the food exceeded our expectations. It was quick to be served and tasted great. We ordered the bison tacos, mushroom bruschetta, and pastas. A big hit for us was the homemade ginger ale. They also had plenty of delicious dessert options. After looking on Yelp for a good place to eat up and down highway 93/95/3 on our way to Golden, BC, we choose this little place and we were so happy we did. The food is fresh, delicious and free from additives and the staff is so helpful and kind. My friend had the salmon salad and I had roasted chicken with tomato jam. Both were excellent. This place is great and we've never had a bad meal here. My only gripe is the hours. We went for breakfast on a long weekend Monday once and they were closed! We couldn't believe they weren't open on a long weekend Monday. Anyway, not sure if they have changed that practice since. There's not a lot of room in this location and a few times we've had to leave because they were full. Also, back to the hours of operation, they close a tad early in my opinion on Sundays. I had the pulled pork sandwich and squash soup, I was pretty disappointing due to reviews saying how great everything would be, the pork was fine but the bun was thick and cold could have been grilled that would have elevated the sandwich, the soup was watered-down lacking in depth of flavor I added plenty of salt but it just wouldn't pop, just giving me my honest experience, I have to recommend everyone go to Blue Dog Cafe in Invermere as we did the day before it was absolutely five star,the people at from scratch were very nice and I could see they're working hard but that particular meal missed the mark entirely.... unfortunate read more

A great place for a foodie who want to eat something non-traditional. They had some great food stuffs for purchase! I had the eggs benedict...but the tradition was not offered so I had it with bacon. The poached eggs and hollandaise sauce were really good...but I wish it had been ham (or CANADIAN bacon)...and I didn't love their idea of hash browns (cubed rosemary potatoes with the skins on). My hubby had eggs, sausage and the same "hash browns"...the best part being the HOMEMADE jam but there was not choice of jam and they weren't very generous. They also only had PLAIN coffee or tea ....no lattes. I think most people would enjoy the food even though the place looks very plain from the outside. This was probably the most unsanitary dining experience my family and I have ever had. While on vacation, we were driving from Fernie to Golden and stopped here for lunch. There was no kids menu so we had to pay $9 (each) for two half orders of Mac N Cheese. I went to fill up our own water glasses. One water glass was still covered in lipstick from previous use. Another glass we used was leaking and I noticed it was totally cracked down the side. My husband's burger was badly freezer burnt (so not exactly "fresh" or "from scratch") and my children's meals were atrocious. One looked like it could pass for Mac N Cheese, the other looked like alfredo soup. We alerted management to the dirty and broken glasses, and there wasn't even an apology. Living in a "foodie" town ourselves, I can say this place would compete with the best of them. The ingredients are fresh, and the dishes are full of flavor. This place was so good that we came back twice in 2 days. The costumer service was some of the best I've had and the food was also really good. We came here after we were really dirty after an atv trip, and we weren't even going to go inside but they welcomed us in and gave us a nice spot outside, and we were being tended to the whole time we were there. The food was warm and fresh and it really hit the spot, the only issue was that some of the food at our table needed a little more salt which was provided for us. What is even cooler, is that there is a mini market on the inside of the restaurant, it has lots of options on produce to buy and every product is local and fresh.
