Although the dish was prepared well and had a satisfactory taste, I couldn't help but feel that the price was exorbitant, reminiscent of Vancouver pricing rather than what one would expect in Invermere with its much lower cost of living. There are a few places to eat in Invermere and Birchwood is definitely one that shouldn't be missed. Being that Birchwood is a relatively small place and given COVID protocols are in place we had made a reservation. Arrived and we were immediately seated by our host. There were maybe 10 tables in the place - likely more in non-COVID times. Its a cozy place. Our server was with us immediately and yet we were never rushed. The food and drink menus are definitely eclectic. My wife decided that she would try the "Apple Pie Moscow Mule". Which had more of an apple pie taste than a Moscow mule taste, but very well done. There were four of us so we decided to share the Cheese Fondue plate, which was good call. There is quite a bit of cheese and this would be very filling for two people. I went with the Poke bowl and my wife went with the Chicken and Prawn bowl. Both were excellent. My Poke bowl was super fresh and all the veggies were super crisp. Overall the service is excellent, the food is likely the best in Invermere, and the place is very cozy. All in all, Birchwood has figured out the package for great food and service. read more

Celebrated our 20th anniversary at the Birchwood. Enjoyed delicious drinks - guava tequila sunrise and a local IPA. The menu was clearly marked with veggie and gluten-free options. The lamb shank and whipped goat cheese mashed potatoes were amazing, and my husband said the pork chops were the best he'd had anywhere. If you live or are visiting Invermere I can not recommend this restaurant enough. We stopped in on a Monday August evening. We were starving and this was the only place we could find that served a proper meal that was open downtown. Now I'm not sure if it was the hunger but everything tasted so damn good. Seriously I think this was one of the best meals I have ever had. All four of us ordered the nightly special which was Duck confit. Which was served with risotto and fresh sautéed in season veggies. The duck was fall off the bone decant good. The meat was so rich and full of flavour. The veggies were perfectly tender and lavishly buttered. I could not get enough of the sweet yellow beets. Not being a huge fan of risotto and asked for a substitution to mashed potatoes but I did try a spoonful and I have to say it was really good. Not overly soupy like a lot others I've had. And the rich was rich and creamy with a wonderful full full flavour. For real it was yum. To finish our meal we shared the trio dessert sample which is perfect for sharing as there was two portions of each dessert. If sampling is not your thing my favourite was definitely the peanut butter ice cream sandwich layered between chocolate cake sponge that had bits of toffee infused. OMG it was so decadent. It a good thing I live far from invermere because if I didn't I would probably be back for dessert nightly. A close second was the sticky toffee pudding. It was warm and gooey and drizzled in caramel. The mini donuts were definitely house made. Warm and soft on the outside and crispy on the side. They were drizzled in a tropical citrus sauce which was a bit sparse as I felt like I definitely wanted more. All in all a definite worth the extra expense meal. We had an amazing dinner here last Saturday night. The atmosphere is great, servers are quick and attentive and the food is to die for. I had the pork chop (which I would never normally order) the chop was cooked to perfection and served with a great sour cherry bbq sauce. My wife had beef two ways. Our mains were the Pork belly and Scallops and lamb meatballs over pasta. Hellooooooo! I was in heaven!! Everything was cooked SO well and the flavours were absolutely amazing. Do not, I repeat, do not hesitate when looking at the prices. It. Is. Worth. Every. Penny. We normally let each other taste the others plate. Mine was so delicious I was tempted to be a horrible girlfriend and slap his hand of he tried to snag a bite. But it was too good not to share. Wine - burrowing owl - new favourite (and Canadian to boot!) Dessert. Let's be honest. I was WAY too full for dessert, but when Creme brûlée is on the menu, I can't be stopped. First time in. Fantastic experience. To the owners... you can thank previous Yelpers and their reviews for influencing us to make a reservation. The food was creative, full of flavour and the perfect portion size. Period. We shared the Lamb Pirogies. Would love more but then there would be no room for dinner. I had the beef duo, my wife had the pork tenderloin. With so many interesting choices it was tough to decide. Cooked to perfection. Dessert. Yes please. We shared the ice cream sandwich. WOW! What a pleasant surprise to find this level of food in such an unassuming place! What I mean by that is; when you think of Vancouver-level restaurant dining and food, Invermere, BC does not usually come to mind. But this is exactly what happened when my wife and I (and another couple) stumbled on this gem of an establishment while staying in Invermere. Unfortunately, they were out of the dinner special when we got there, but happily, there was no shortage of tempting choices on the menu. My wife got the steak and potato gratin...cooked a perfect medium rare and the gratin was just the right amount of firmness (no mushy gratin here!). I ordered the Pork Belly and Scallops w/ risotto...i repeat, PORK BELLY AND SCALLOPS W/ RISOTTO!! I don't remember hearing this many delicious and sought-after meal components on one dish at any restaurant i've ever been to. It was delicious and worth every cent (mind you, it did NOT come with small-town prices). The service was personable and professional. The room was small and tasteful. I can understand why this is number 1 on TA. We called for reservations and were told that they could fit us in if we could be there within 1/2 an hour. We hopped into the car and went right away. It's a very small restaurant and I found it very dark where we were sitting. However, it was great that we were able to secure a table as shortly after we were seated they were turning people who did not have a reservation away. The service from our waitress Julie was excellent. She was very busy but she checked up on us constantly during our meal and just ensured that we were well taken care of. We shared escargot topped with cheese to start and it was terrific. There was a lovely garlic butter underneath and cheese was melted on top. It came with slices of bread for dipping into the butter. My husband had the fish of the day (I forget what it was) and it was wonderful. It was perfectly cooked and so soft it just melted in your mouth. I had the jerk chicken and it also was perfectly cooked and nice and spicy. There was an interesting array of vegetables that accompanied our meals and they accented the main dishes nicely. We shared an ice cream sandwich for dessert. It was absolutely decadent. The best ice cream sandwich I've ever had. The sandwich came on a sauce of soft peanut butter and pistachio brittle and there was whipped cream of the side. Be sure to go. It's one of the best meals that I've had. read more

Wow!! We came in from Kamloops, as a getaway from our busy life. We were looking for the "Wow" factor in quality for dining. Myself, I've been in the restaurant industry for 18 years and it takes a lot for me to be "Wow'ed." You can call me high maintenance, but I know what I like. Shelly was our server, with only her 4th day under her belt, she provided service like she knew the inside and outside of the restaurant for years. Amazing! After a craptastic experience at Huckleberry's Diner this was an unexpected pleasure. The pork chop was "Flintstones" sized and tasty good, the cheese fondue was perfectly proportioned, the beet salad was so good it made me forget I don't like beets, and the carpaccio had a wonderful fuzzy greens with shaved cheese side garnish that had just enough vinager. The peanut butter ice cream sandwich was served with a gooseberry "pumpkin" and a dark chocolate "web" nestled in whipped cream. The service was splendid. Will come back. read more

Enjoyed this place in the winter but it looks like they have a patio that would be very nice in the summer as well. They take reservations but it probably wasn't necessary on a weekday night. Weekends I would call ahead to reserve for sure. The lobster mac n cheese and steak was excellent. I also appreciate how they label in detail each menu item - vegetarian, gluten free, and some even "can be made (vegetarian/gluten free)". It shows they have given some thought to catering to clientele with dietary restrictions - they even asked to confirm on the phone any allergies/restrictions when I made the reservation! read more

I ordered the BW burger. The bun was so soggy and disgusting. It literally fell apart and broke off from the sogginess. I mentioned this to our server she said " the bun is supposed to be soggy because the burger is stuffed with beef short rib. I've eaten a lot of stuffed burgers in my life and the buns are not SOGGY!! She was rude and made no attempt to Replace my burger! Very disappointed. The attitude was too bad so sad!!!! read more

It's tough for me to give 5 stars but this is by far the best meal from start to finish I have had in quite a while. We had the Calamari to start, which was fresh and a bit spicy. For our mains we had the steak and lobster macaroni and the Duo: both were perfectly cooked and delicious. For dessert we had the chef's Trio: 2 fresh mini doughnuts, sticky toffee pudding and peanut butter ice cream sandwiches. Honestly the best meal I've ever had in Canada. If you are nearby, say at the hot springs, you owe it to yourself to dine here. The crostini trio is an absolute must. Perfect flavors. And a total bargain for 12. Chocolate carrot cake desert and desert sampler also musts. Calamari was okay but not up to other food. The Birchwood Restaurant was a really nice find. We showed up a couple of minutes before stated 9 p.m. closing time, and you know how that can go. But staff took us in and was helpful and friendly throughout the dinner. Small classy decor -- intimate and casual. And our dinners were superb, starting with a great spinach salad. The menu is not large, but it offers a variety of interesting entrees. We were in the "meat mood," I guess -- the beef offer was both a tenderloin and a braised short rib . . . and the grilled pork chop was prepared with a sour cherry BBQ sauce. Both were excellent. This was our first time in Invermere, so there may be other spots. But the Birchwood offers a nice dinner experience. read more
