Find someone else.... I took my 5 year old daughter in to Dr. Steve for a second opinion on the several cavities that we recently discovered in her mouth. We had x-rays sent from her current dentist to Dr. Steve ahead of the appointment so that he could review the x-rays prior to our visit. When we arrived, the front desk claimed he had not looked at them and since their internet was down that morning, he wouldn't be able to access them during the consultation. When we went back to meet with him, he was humming and talking to himself in a very low tone on the opposite side of the room. He did not greet us. My normally social daughter immediately became uncomfortable with him. As we introduced ourselves and explained our situation, he never once introduced himself to her, made eye contact with her or helped her to feel more comfortable. By the time she got in his chair so he could look at her mouth, she was practically in tears because she felt so uncomfortable by his demeanor. We spoke about how drinking milk in the evening before bed (even though we brush her teeth afterwards) could be the culprit and causing the cavities. However, without a review of the xrays there was no way to get a sound confirmation on the diagnosis. While talking about the milk, I mentioned that I breastfed my daughter for a little over a year... I was wondering if milk left on her teeth could have caused the decay early on in her life. He looked at me and said, "Well wasn't that a little too long to breastfeed your child?" And then went on a rant about how pediatricians don't want to tell their patients the "bad news" and leave it to the dentists, etc, etc. Again, extremely odd behavior. He also mentioned he cannot have nitrous oxide in his office anymore because of the damage it has done to him... you can tell that he has been affected by too much intake (voluntary or involuntary...) He then told me that he was "sure the original diagnosis from our pediatric dentist was correct because he taught him at the local school of dentistry." Thankfully he didn't charge me for the appointment since all I got out of it was 1- a daughter who is now fearful of dentists, 2- felt degraded for sharing how long I breastfed my child and 3- no second opinion. I think it's time for Dr. Steve to move on to the next chapter in his life... I don't mean that to sound harsh, but it is time. Please parents, find another dentist for your children... read more
