I stopped at Frisch's Big Boy for lunch earlier today as I was driving from Indianapolis to Detroit as this is a quick easy destination just south of US-24. I stopped to take a selfie by the entrance of the iconic Big Boy statue as I entered that I thought would be fun to send to my family and friends. To my surprise, a hostess had seen me from inside and offered to take a picture for me which I declined, but we both laughed. I've been going to Big Boy in Ohio since my childhood as this was a destination that my parents would meet my great aunt and exchange different siblings/cousins to go spend a week vacation in Cleveland which would go on for a few weeks with weekend meals at Big Boy and then exchange another set until everyone had a turn which is a fond memory. I ordered a Big Boy Special which is a double decker hamburger and I chose onion rings and Cole slaw. My food was prepared quickly and I found the Big Boy to be as tasty as I remembered and the onion rings were crispy and not oily at all and the coleslaw was simple and delicious. I was even sending some photos to my friends who wanted to know what I was having and thought this was a nice portion. This location usually has a few locals frequenting when I stop and my server, Miranda C , was efficient and friendly as was the hostess who offered to take the photo. My table was clean, patrons were enjoying themselves, and the rest room was clean. Lunch was just under $21 including gratuity for an enjoyable break from driving. read more

Whenever I see a Big Boy I need to stop in and have a bite of nostalgia. In many cases when one wants to reminisce of the 'good ole days' foodwise, one finds a semblance of the taste, environs and history combined in the setting. Unfortunately, this was not the case with my visit recently to Frisch's Big Boy Restaurant in Defiance, Ohio! One of the few vestiges of a Big Boy bygone era. Unfortunately, the expectations are one cannot relive the past to remake current expectations. But, since my last visit to this here specific Big Boy on Clinton Street in Defiance just a few very, very short years ago, things seem to have gotten worse. I now understand why they have only garnered a 1.8 rating on Yelp! It makes me wonder whether the other seven locations are the same. From the almost bare seating available other than the 100-year-old booths, to the lack of patrons at lunch time, to a certain degree of deficiency of cleanliness says a lot. Their offerings although somewhat extensive ranges from Burgers & Sandwiches, beverages, hot meals, salads and so on... but once ordered, one's nostalgic enthusiasm is exhausted! To make a long story short my wife and sis decided to go the their ¼ lb. beef burger with cheese, mayo, tomato, lettuce and pickles. And I went for the cup of Chili with onion and cheese - very bland, very lacking. And the Fish & Chips with 2 dried up and tough brown batter which seemed like they'd molded pieces of whitefish served with fries and what they called Tartar Sauce. I'm sorry... we have visited Frisch's Big Boy Restaurant of Northwest Ohio here in Defiance with every visit to Defiance over the past twenty years, but unfortunately not again. Our server was the best around. She accommodated our family of 4 to get the most bang for our buck! Chili and burgers were great. She left us with some candy as a "thank you" to us. We really wanted to like this place but our visit was cut short. Stopped next door for gasoline and thought Big Boy sounded good for lunch. Walked in and the hostess greeted and seated us quickly. She was sweet and attentive. It was about 1:30pm and the place fairly full of patrons. Huge menu! Breakfast served all day, which is nice. The salad bar looked fresh and I thought, "OK this looks decent." We sat down and the beginning of the end started: flies. Lots of flies. Flies flying fly-like everywhere. Dive bombing the table, buzzing reconnaissance above the table, and choreographed dance routines in our face. After swatting and waving wildly for 30 seconds to no avail, we got up and left. We hadn't ordered anything yet so no foul. Big Boy, we wish you the best. We ended up stopping at the Golden Arches, which I loathe, but we cut our losses and kept driving. read more

The reviews are accurate. Two stars is what I experienced. Had the turkey club. It was salty lunch meat and orange cheese. It would have been better with bacon. Oh and the restroom situation isn't too good. I'd recommend stopping elsewhere. read more

Even being "short staffed" right now. They get a full 5 stars! Didn't take long to be seated. The waitress we had came to take our drink orders within just two minutes of being at our table. She got our drinks right away and came straight back to take our order. There weren't any problems with our order. Food tasted great. Waitress made sure to come back and check on us. Refreshing to go to a restaurant in this day and age where nobody wants to work...And the staff actually still cares about their customers. Great job! Big Boy. Would stop back any time. read more

I have never walked out of a restaurant once I had sat down. As soon as I started for the restroom before ordering, I saw how dirty it was. This restaurant is absolutely filthy. It even smells. What you see is what you get, I guess. A regular old big boy not great, not bad.although I must admit that I thought of an old Seinfeld tv episode when my big boy burger arrived at my table. The food has gone from mediocre to downright bad. The breakfast bar was not well stocked. The pico de gallo was soured and I had to spit it back on my plate. One type of sausage was undercooked. The food is always good at a Frisch's. This is about two customers and a worker that was waiting on them. This black guy and his ugly redneck white woman were sitting across from me. They were trying to start something with me and it seemed like the waitress was their friend. There are always going to be ignorant, self loathing people who don't love themselves enough to love others. However, the worker shouldn't have been entertaining them and possibly have done something to shut them down. I guess I have to chalk it up to the general are I was in. Service was friendly but my husband and I have never had worse food at a restaurant before. It was greasy and really low quality. I got the country fried chicken with mashed potatoes and I took three bites and couldn't eat anymore. My husband (who will pretty much eat anything) couldn't even eat it. And the restaurant is dirty. I'd never experienced a Big Boy before, so my fiance and I stopped here for lunch on a trip to Indiana to see his sister. I think the idea behind Big Boys now is more about the experience of it than the quality, which I'm fine with. I got a fish sandwich that was good and pretty on par with most average fish sandwiches. I also had some of the onion rings, since I heard they were good. They were pretty delicious and I can't complain, except I felt sick for the rest of the day and I don't know which of the two foods to blame. Fish or onion rings? Who knows. Either way, I was not feeling good after this meal. ...I'm going to go ahead and actually place the blame on the grease. The atmosphere was dated but in a warm and welcoming way. Our waitress was not hesitant to keep cracking jokes about how horribly her day was going. I can understand one little quip when prompted, but constant complaints and grumbles start to make me feel weird after awhile. Like will she be mad at us later even if we didn't do anything off color? Is she going to be mean to us without reason? Also, I'm pretty sure we saw Honey Boo Boo in real life. Terrible service. We were told they were backed up in the kitchen. We waited 46 minutes before our server finally made eye contact with us for an update. They were not extremely busy by any stretch. No discount offered - just a sarcastic "sorry" from server and mgr. Only reason giving 2 stars rather than 1 is because once we finally received our food it was very good. read more

The main entre was good, but the Coconut Cream pie tasted better if I ate the picture on the menu! But..... you better not order it after your meal cause another attitude will meet your table. The hash browns were swimming in oil/butter. The burger patties were more jerky and over cooked! However, when we cashed out they took the burger off the bill. First, it took to long for an employee to seat us. Many employees just walked by without even acknowledging that we were waiting to be seated. Then when we were seated the high chair they gave us looked nasty and dirty. Thank goodness we brought a high chair cover. The table was not clean. The worst part was it took FOREVER for them to bring us our food. It was ridiculous. They were not busy. Barely anyone else there. It was a Monday around lunch time ... Seriously there were no excuses for the lack of service we received. We watched the manager chit chatting with a waitress while other guests coming in were waiting to be seated. Very unprofessional . The service wasn't bad and the place was empty around 4pm. The salad bar tasted as bad as it looked. The place was fairly cleaned but looked old and dingy. I'm staying in town while working on a construction project nearby. I was at the stoplight and thought, why not? I wish I had continued driving by. Ordered at the drive-through and waited behind one other vehicle to get to the window for ten minutes. I paid the gal and she grabbed my bills before I could give her the coins. She handed me my bag like she was doing me favor. The burgers were awful and the onion rings had absolutely no flavor - not even the onions. As I drove away, I saw that they were hiring cooks and waiters, which is a bad sign. My first time at Big Boy will surely be my last! After looking at the reviews here, I have to wonder if these people have a clue how bad their fare and service is. We stopped here for dinner on our way to Indiana. If I could give zero stars I would. This place is very outdated and dirty. Waiter was very slow. My dad ordered fish.. I ordered chicken tenders and my husband had a burger. All the food was extremely gross. I took one bite of my tenders and I had to spit it out.. It tasted HORRIBLE.. Like the chicken went bad. I really hope I don't get sick from this... The MANAGER sent the server over to deal with us.. Really??? He couldn't come over himself to apologize to us?? Wow!!! We got NO APOLOGY!!! My family and I stopped here on our way to Cedar Point, and were thrilled they had a drive thru so we could get right back on the road. We ordered 2 burgers and a kids chicken tender meal and waited 30 MINUTES! For all of that we could of went inside and ate. No one even checked back with us, very disappointed in the service we received. We expected a wait since its better quality than say McDonald's but 30 minutes is absolutely ridiculous. on 12/4/2015 around 6:45 pm we stopped to eat here and we waited 15 minutes to get our drinks ordered. when they brought out our drinks out we placed our order, but to our surprise we had waited 45 minutes before we ask about our order. we asked to talk to the manager Kyle had came out (not looking very happy to be their, nor professional) we tried to explain the situation that was occurring. He could careless about what was going on he was very rude and nasty to me. all he said to us was that the kitchen was backed up mind you the restaurant was not that full at all and people that had gotten seated after us had received their meal to me this is not the kitchen being back up. i was very furious at this time due to the fact that not only did we wait for our meal (but i had a 2 year old child with me that was hungry). i proceeded to tell Kyle that we would not be eating here to keep the food that we still had not received. i can tell you this we will NEVER be back and i WILL BE TELLING FAMILY AND FRIENDS NOT TO GO THERE. at this time the business was very unorganized and poorly ran. so in order to feed my child we had went to Bob Evans, we where seated, had our drinks, and our appetizers all with in 20 minuets. read more
