Had coffee, ordered lunch specials: French onion soup and a wrap, chicken tortilla soup with club. Waited 25 minutes and left. Not even half of dining room was used, 3 maybe 4 servers with a trainee and bartender. If you can't SERVICE all your customers then slow down the seating. Unacceptable!! read more

We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday and going in it was pretty busy. We were aware it would be a wait which was fine. When they went to seat us they wanted to put us at a hightop. This was an issue as we had someone in our group that was obviously hurt and had a cane. We had to wait for a different table. We got our food and drinks ordered fairly quickly. Appetizer came out half cooked. The cheese in mozzarella sticks was not soft and hard for kids to eat. We watched more than three staff walk by and not pick up the dirty dish, including the waitress that had to move it to place the food down. We waited a long time for our food. Almost everything was overcooked. My food looked nothing like the picture. The potatoes were bland and had no garlic. My mother-in-law order a mushroom and Swiss burger with fries. Hers came out with no mushrooms, barely any sauce and had onion rings. Oldest boy had the ranch chicken sandwhich with onion rings. Had no sauce and fries. Youngest boy ordered kids cheeseburger plain with an extra al a carte burger (we checked and she said they could do it). 2 kidsburger meals came out. They tried to charge for the extra fries they had to bring and an extra kids meal. Not to mention that we never really saw our waitress again. We were never offered refills on drinks. When the manager came out she blamed the new cook. They gave a 15% discount but honestly it should have been more. There was not a single meal right, the waitress just disappeared, they never cleared the dirty dishes, the manager blamed the new cook. We were traveling through Defiance, Ohio on 3/19/24, and needed to stop for dinner. We did not realize that Defiance, Ohio was a restaurant desert. The restaurant we wanted to stop at, closed at 3 pm ! What kind of hours are those?? Anyway, we stopped at Applebee's because our experience at our local Applebee's in Fort Wayne has always been a great experience. Applebee's is a chain restaurant, therefore, we thought we would receive the same experience in Defiance. We were wrong. We arrived at 8 pm. The restaurant was not busy. The dining room had many empty tables. The atmosphere was not upbeat at all. The server, Latty, took our order and my husband ordered the Oreo milkshake to be served with his meal. I ordered the southwestern chicken bowl, my husband ordered a cheeseburger. My chicken bowl was awful. It was cold. And it was overly seasoned to the point that it was almost not edible. My husband never received his Oreo milkshake. We asked the server where the milkshake was and she said that someone was making it. My husband finished his food and still, no milkshake. When it finally arrived, the server said that the person who made the milkshake got busy and didn't get it made in time. BUSY? There were 6 tables with customers at them. The restaurant was not busy. Ridiculous! The milkshake was awful. It was made with ice, not milk. It was not creamy at all and had no chocolate taste. What is going on at this Applebee's??? The server removed the Oreo shake from our bill. But it was still $40. My husband did not want to leave a tip at all. But I left her $5. This Applebee's restaurant is awful. We will never return. Defiance, Ohio needs to get some decent restaurants to dine at. This one is a bust! read more

It was the second day after reopening. We had to wait over 30 minutes for a table due to the limited capacity of COVID situation. All staff wore masks, they sanitized tables after diners left. They simplified the menu. Now they have $20 for 2 dishes deal. 2 side dishes or 1 entree with 1 main course. I had shrimp alfredo. Not the best one I had. It was way too dry, spaghetti sticked together, not enough of alfredo sauce to blend in. There were 10 medium size shrimp, a bit salty. The Caesar salad was okay. Hubby had ribs, I had a bite and it was good! It's a little spicy which I like. I came with family, 5 people in total. We were sitting at a booth by the window. I cannot look at the person's eyes who sat to my right because the setting sun was in my eyes. One waiter noticed that, pulled down the shade. Applaud to that. read more

Came with my parents, had a comically bad experience here; it took around 20 minutes to even get our drink order in, appetizers came a while after. Took around an hour and a half to get our food, the same thing was happening to the three tables around us. The table behind us got a wrong order and a steak done incorrectly. We asked our waitress specifically for three boxes and she came back with a single one of the tiniest takeout box i've seen. The tortilla strips on my grilled chicken bowl were all completely stale, and the bottom of the broccoli my dad had was grey and gross. I'm not a picky eater, and i've never had to actually pick something off of my food to enjoy it before until then. Also the table was sticky when we arrived. On the bright side it was really funny to see the tables around us having the exact same experience and realizing it wasn't just a fluke but genuinely poor service and food being given to all of us in real time. read more

Gone here a few times since my first review in person now, rather than just delivery, and I wanted to update it to add that the staff here is really nice and quick on their feet. They'll have your soda refilled constantly and while keeping an eye on you possibly having any issues or needing anything extra, will avoid bothering you too often. The food was also even better than delivery, though that was easy to assume as it's the same food just not sitting in some random person's car for 20 minutes. Great place to come eat and very affordable for what you get. read more

I often go to this location and always have great service. I went a couple of days ago to celebrate my friend's birthday and we had the most amazing waitress, Kelsey. All of the servers are wonderful but Kelsey really made us feel like family. I would definitely ask for Kelsey as your server when going here. They harassed us about our ID's - we are all clearly over 21 & all happen to be from out of state. Visited the Applebee's today with my mother,who is using a walker and when we got inside she was obviously short of breath and then somewhat distressed due to medical conditions. We were told the wait would be 10 minutes. She went to sit down in the lobby and the kid at the desk said," no " we had to wait outside,we went out to the entryway on the outside and we're standing there were told we needed to go wait in our car even though it was only a 10 minute wait. It's 27° cold and windy. My 80 year old short of breath on a walker mother is not taken into any consideration. There was a man on the bench outside with obvious medical issues freezing until he was told to go in. This is a disgrace that people with medical issues are not assisted more. And our party had all been vaccinated,screw COVID and screw Applebee's. Will never go to one, again. They had NO signage about waiting in cars, just that you had to have a mask, which we all had. read more

This location is not safe for children if the manager Daryl is working. Today after patiently waiting 50 minutes my wife asked the supposed "manager" named Daryl how long it would be because our 6 year olds were not fussing but getting hungry. He blew up at my wife and told her she was being rude for asking how long it would be. He verbally assaulted her until I spoke up. At which time he stepped toward me in a very intentionally intimidating way. Having experience dealing with violent and abusive individuals and immediately recognizing it, I left the location for the safety of my wife and small children. All because he was asked how long it would be for our children's meals. The waitress, hostess, and anyone else we spoke too were extremely nice and seemed to be doing a good job. This Daryl should not be in any position dealing with customers, when he gets violent just by being asked how long before your children's food will be ready. I feel bad leaving a 1 star review, but this is an enormous liability to the location, abusive individual like this are very likely to progress to physical violence. Employing management that is hostile toward a customer for any reason is dangerous, but this was simply for asking how long until children's meals would be ready after waiting 50 minutes from the time of the order? This person who is supposed to be working as a manager creates a hostile environment for customers, especially children. read more

Of course everyone knows that Applebees is one of the best stock investments because of the 2 decade history of excellent food and fast service. Michelle the bartendar on the other hand seemed a little annoyed, not inclined to smile or interact with customers seated at the bar unless they are good looking guys. But still fast on her feet. Young pretty women sometime's profile the elderly as non-tippers. Where we are concerned she is wrong. We never tip less than 50%. Michelle is young yet. Two strikes, this Applebee's is out! Lived in the area for about 18 months, tried the most expensive steak on the menu at first visit - overcooked and tough! We were not the only ones that night as the manager was at multiple tables around us. So, tonight, we are "o.k. we will try this again" BIG mistake! Ordered shrimp skewer, with 4 oz sirloin steak (medium rare) with fries and broccoli TO GO. Got it home, steak barely pink in center and tough! Fries left out of order. i ATE THERE TODAY Oct 16th..the food was so so..the mixed grill was burnt and tasted awful even if they hadn't burned it it was really not good. The salad are suppose to come with tomatoes and cucumbers which were not visible they called something that was chopped so fine tomatoes and the cucumber were not in it. The rest of my two items were ok. They are never consistent last time i went there it was great and salad was terrific..why i don't eat there much. Now the server I had was great and did an excellent job. I give 2 stars for the inconsistency of the food and 5 star to my waiter.It definitively wasn't a good 20.00 meal for the money. read more

I had to interrupt the "manager" Darrell while he was watching a football game on TV to tell him about a less than stellar service experience that I had. A manager should set the tone for a business and lead by example. There is never a time that a manager should be idle, or watching TV at work. He could have been visiting tables asking if everybody's dining experience was acceptable. Instead, he was engrossed in a sporting event. Poor leadership leads to poor service. I will not be back, there are plenty of other restaurants in town that offer better service and food. The bartender was excellent, however, her strong work ethic and people skills could not outweigh Darrell's lack of initiative and leadership. Very disappointing. read more
