I don't have a current opinion of this restaurant because it has changed its modus operandi before…read morepandemic several times, and then finally seemed to have a routine. At least, a routine that we (2 ppl) could count on for dinner a couple nights a week.
This place was known for its quick BBQ Window directly outside the 79th Street D Station in Bensonhurst: On the Coney Island Side of the station, use early exits (aka exits at 7700 New Utrecht Avenue, closer to the end of train aka Manhattan side of the station). Many people who live in BK Chinatown #2 are coming home from working in Chinatown or Midtown Manhattan, and stop here on their way home. Also a huge crowd place during the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights season, as it is at the subway step entrance.
The people who like the 2 or 3 meat BBQ plates seem happy
There is a buffet hot table near the front of the restaurant but it looks like it was leftover from the previous store. They don't really use the old counter which is from this was a casual restaurant, I guess. Today they still store a few foods on top, which seem to be served early in the day and then left to slowly rot throughout the day. By dinner, I might stare at a pile of soggy, translucent noodles that are part disintegrated in a sauce, and part rehardened into newly-shaped Starch. The blood curd squares are likewise bogged down on their submerged side, but cracked and hardening on top. Both are a grime muddy grey that remind me of building supplies more than food. A strange choice to leave morning buffet items sitting out all day, but it must not be an issue for their clients.
Prior to pandemic, we would get a few different items here. Despite us ordering the same things each and every week, they stopped carrying our items. By the start of COVID, they only carried one of our dishes any longer. We would get the same dish then, consistently on the same day(s) of the week and accepted the rise in pricing. Despite this, they eventually stopped carrying the main ingredient for this dish, and when I would try to get them to carry the Ingredients for guaranteed orders each week, They would just insist it was no longer available. But then the next place down the street would have the same issues, but random other Ingredients on hiatus. Alas, with nothing else left to order, I remain a supporter of this place but cannot find anything left to purchase. I used to buy oranges from them because they had the most beautiful produce for slicing up to give you with the bill on dine-in orders. Those oranges were great. If they ever make filet steak with black pepper sauce, beef with straw mushroom and snow peas, or Princess Japanese Egg Tofu with mixed mushroom and vegetables, I will definitely be back. If you are looking for a good dish that is available right now, people love those meat over rice combos. The Peking Pork Chops are huge and meaty, a great choice for a hungry man who likes his protein deep-fried in a sticky soda syrup. I used to love the complexity of their Orange Beef, which should be true of anything made with orange sauce here. I wish they hadn't removed all of the things we ordered from here.
