Teachers leaving mid year, due to the challenging behavior from the director and teachers. The only qualified educator is the director, everyone else has just had experience around children. There was never a proper curriculum and the director went by the day or what they felt like was "appropriate". Mostly deserted school with only a couple of students. Not culturally appropriate towards other students nor staff, not understanding that some people speak different languages. This is their structure precisely, the hours ran from 8:45am-11:45am three days a week due to low numbers. The teachers couldn't even bother to ask them to walk, but have the students running, and eloping. Unfortunately early intervention is not a thing here because they assume that they can just take away autism. Please with the resources we have today, it's important to value your children and their learning. None of the students had any fine gross motor skills, they have trouble with words, shapes. Most projects are being done by the teacher so that's why they look amazing. It is unfortunate that the don't even know what curriculum they teach, I've practiced Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and even the Waldorf approach. None of those approaches were practiced at this church school. Genuinely this place is questionable and I recommend elsewhere, for the sake of your child's readiness.

First of all seeing these other reviews I am so very annoyed that these people are sharing reviews…read morebased on their experience from YEARS ago. Do not listen to them. I graduated from this school in 2012 and I must say I had an amazing experience. The classes and grades were very small so the learning environment is very intimate which made it so much easier to learn. The teachers were all very wonderful and cared greatly for their students. I received a wonderful education that prepared me greatly for high school, and it was very obvious in high school that I and others that attended this school were much more prepared than students from other schools. We learned discipline and respect for one another. I received a wonderful religious education and would not trade it for anything so please disregard these other reviews, because they do not apply to the current status of this wonderful school.

With that said, my review is CURRENT! My daughter has been attending OLV (as we call it) this past year for their full day prek program. She absolutely loves it and it has been so good for her- not only socially (Never went to day care), but academically and spiritually. She is excelling at her letters and numbers (which since she wasn't in daycare I thought she might be behind). They learn about God and religion at the same time which I could not be happier. The kids are all very respectful. It's a nice small school with a community feel to it and everyone knows everyone. If My daughter is having a bad day, I can tell the office manager and she says she'll check up on her. You don't get that in a public school. And we actually live two blocks away from a public school but I felt it was too large and she would get lost in it. I don't regret my decision at all and as hard as it will be financially, we plan to keep her there till the end with 8th grade. Also want to mention their after school program is awesome. So flexible. I work from home so sometimes I can pick her up and sometimes I can't. I can call the school on the fly and put her in the after school program that day and I pay as I use it! A lot of other schools make you pay for set days with a monthly fee whether you use it or not. So please please don't go by reviews from eons ago and feel free to contact me if you want to talk about the school further! I'd be happy to help... because that's what parents at this school do for each other!

Brown Academy is stellar. No one is born an Ivy League student, no is born with perfect SAT…read morescores, no one is born a national olympiad winner. Brown Academy instills an ethic of hard work and dedication into enrolled students in students young and old. These virtues will not only guide your children to academic success, but also impart values that will guide them to achievement throughout their entire life. There is no price on ensuring your child's future prosperity. As a former student who once struggled with my academic and day-to-day endeavors, embracing the philosophy at Brown Academy propelled me into my childhood dream college. For these reasons, I HIGHLY recommend Brown Academy for any student who is serious about their future.

There is a work out room, basketball courts, a room for yoga and other fitness classes and even a cafeteria if you get hungry. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. I attended Notre Dame from 1987-1996, Kindergarten to 8th grade. Some of the warmest memories I…read morehave of childhood were formed there. A small school, there were only maybe 25 students in our class, and very little turnover, so it provided nice continuity and the ability to establish close friendships for 9 years. The building and classrooms were well maintained. Of course, back in that stone age there was not as much emphasis on computers, so I can't speak to the resources they have today in that area. I very much enjoyed my teachers, and the quality of the education was decent, although I would say it was severely lacking in STEM resources, music, and athletic programs. This may have changed. Although it was a Catholic school, non-Catholic students attended, which might have been difficult for them given that there is a big connection between the school and the church which adjoins it--lots of masses, sacramental preparation, etc. Even though I am not Catholic, I thought that the discussions about morality that took place in the school gave me a strong ethical orientation which I appreciate. As far as the student body, it was not diverse, but at the time the area wasn't very diverse, so hopefully more integration has taken place since then. All this to the side, as a child I loved this school, and I now have a PhD, so maybe loving school is the most important thing.

I've been to the university several times, for graduation ceremonies, and to help cousins move into their dorms and moving out. The school is very easy to navigate. There's clear signs all throughout, and the parking lots of heavenly lit at night. There's always onsite security cruising around, which is a plus and gives that extra layer of protection that you, and your family who are attending are safe. The events, and student get togethers that I so often hear about are all planned by the student council, and they always seem well organized and though out, and fun might I add! You can always find something going on at the campus, planned and hosted by the students themselves. Emily, loves it here. She's forever ranting and raving about the events, meetings, after school events, bake sales, culture nights etc. All of which she helps to plan as she's the head of the student council. If you're a parent thinking to send your child here to further their education, no need to think twice. It's a great private school. The beautiful and historic Dutch estate has been ranked as a top schools in the US for many years in a row. You and your child will love and appreciate the history Hofstra has.
