It's hard to even get a director to look your way to greet you, but they sure are willing to talk about payments due! That is literally the only time they fake nice. Some other director Briana was also extremely condescending and rude on the phone. The place just has a chaotic and heavy energy. Avoid.

Every teacher he's had has been loving, attentive and kind to my son and all of the kids in his classrooms. They run this like a school, keep the kids busy and have a really great structure to prepare them for school. As a first time parent, it's hard to know where to pick a daycare but we are so incredibly happy here. Special thanks to Miss Gabby, Zanaida, Amanda, Ashley, Yassandra, and Nicole and Jess in the main office!

I graduated from this school in 2012 and I must say I had an amazing experience. The classes and grades were very small so the learning environment is very intimate which made it so much easier to learn. The teachers were all very wonderful and cared greatly for their students. I received a wonderful education that prepared me greatly for high school, and it was very obvious in high school that I and others that attended this school were much more prepared than students from other schools. We learned discipline and respect for one another. I received a wonderful religious education and would not trade it for anything so please disregard these other reviews, because they do not apply to the current status of this wonderful school.

With that said, my review is CURRENT! My daughter has been attending OLV (as we call it) this past year for their full day prek program. She absolutely loves it and it has been so good for her- not only socially (Never went to day care), but academically and spiritually. She is excelling at her letters and numbers (which since she wasn't in daycare I thought she might be behind). They learn about God and religion at the same time which I could not be happier. The kids are all very respectful. It's a nice small school with a community feel to it and everyone knows everyone. If My daughter is having a bad day, I can tell the office manager and she says she'll check up on her. You don't get that in a public school. And we actually live two blocks away from a public school but I felt it was too large and she would get lost in it. I don't regret my decision at all and as hard as it will be financially, we plan to keep her there till the end with 8th grade. Also want to mention their after school program is awesome. So flexible. I work from home so sometimes I can pick her up and sometimes I can't. I can call the school on the fly and put her in the after school program that day and I pay as I use it! A lot of other schools make you pay for set days with a monthly fee whether you use it or not. So please please don't go by reviews from eons ago and feel free to contact me if you want to talk about the school further! I'd be happy to help... because that's what parents at this school do for each other!

My granddaughter started prekindergarten at OLS. We thought we found the perfect school. Even when…read moreparents commented, "this school is not the same", we ignored them. The prekindergarten - third grade teachers were remarkable, exhibiting Christ-like qualities. The education she received through the third grade was stellar, through and after COVID. These teachers really cared about the social-emotional and educational needs of the students that were entrusted to their care. Even when my son said it was time to change schools I stubbornly held on. But fourth grade confirmed that it was indeed time to move on. During the first week of after-school band practice my granddaughter's instrument was taken and damaged by a student in the upper grades. I spoke to the principal Mr. Venticinque, and after watching a video of the lunchroom my granddaughter's statement was confirmed. I wish this was the only incident that took place during the fourth grade. Unfortunately, it was not. She was sitting next to a new student who stole her school supplies. The teacher said she was unaware of the incident, but the new student confirmed that she stole the supplies because she didn't have any. I still do not understand how a teacher cannot monitor a class when there are only fourteen students in the class. My granddaughter actually prayed to get the fourth grade teacher she wanted. And, unfortunately she received the teacher she prayed for. This turned out to be the reason we would leave OLS. This teacher yelled and humiliated students all year. Every day my granddaughter would come home with a different story. Even though the teacher's anger wasn't directed at my granddaughter, children shouldn't be subject to this behavior from adults. She would yell at students if they didn't wear the correct color for Dollar Dress Down Day. I couldn't understand why her anger was directed at the children when parents make the decision as to what their child will wear to school. My granddaughter came out of school very upset after sitting for a test that she studied hard for. This fourth grade teacher took points off her test because she said my granddaughter was talking. I approached the teacher and told her that my grandchild was telling a student to stop cheating off her paper. The teacher asked why my granddaughter didn't tell her. I told her that she was scared of her. She looked shocked and said she would speak to her. That conversation never took place. After this I didn't approach the teacher with my concerns for fear of retaliation against my granddaughter. When the school year was coming to an end we decided this was not the school environment my grandchild should be in. I approached the principal with our concerns regarding this teacher. He responded by saying no other parents had mentioned this to him. He also stated that this fourth grade teacher never yelled. I knew that both of these statements were not true. I told him that her parents would make the decision as to whether she would stay at OLS. My son emailed the principal, Mr. Venticinque and requested a day and time to meet with him. He didn't respond to the email until mid summer. I was a faithful volunteer at OLS for four years. I actually thought this would make a difference in how my grandchild was treated. Unfortunately, it did not. The behavior of the fourth grade teacher, delayed responses from the principal and high teacher turnover are just a few of the reasons why I would not recommend this school.

Growing up in New Hyde Park, I knew the teachers and so many kids/parents who went to Gloria Dei and loved it. When I had my own child, there was never a question where they would go. My daughter started in this school last year in the 2 year old separation program. We had tried daycare with her for a while prior but after months struggling to adjust we finally pulled her out and hired a nanny. The first 2 weeks of school my daughter (and most other 2 year olds) were scared and cried for a while after dropoff. But this school anticipates and is prepared for that adjustment helping the kids and parents through. After 2 weeks it was like a switch went off and my daughter suddenly loved school! She made friends, learned to socialize and play and became comfortable separating. I noticed a marked difference in her communication, motor skills and confidence very quickly in the year and she progresses from there. Most importantly, she loved and looked forward to her time there. My daughter is currently enrolled in the 3 year old program with mrs.cherson and continuing to love school and thrive. Mrs. Cherson, the founder and director of the school, is a talented, compassionate and patient teacher. I'm always excited to come home from work and hear how school was. My son will be starting the 2 year old program next year while my daughter continues with them into mrs. Hansen's pre-k.
