My name is Antoinette Shervington and I have been an educator for the past twenty six years. My one and only child, Brianna Shervington, was blessed to be the recipient of the highest caliber of Christian and Academic Enrichment while a student at Grace Lutheran Day School, located at 400 Hempstead Ave in Malverne, NY. I give God all the glory, honor and praise that is due to His Holy Name in the matter of my daughter's formative education because a foundation of excellence was set from the beginning. Christian character development along with a NYS Common Core Curriculum is what assisted Brianna in attaining and maintaining a top ten percent ranking at every grade level, including at one of Long Island's most competitive private high schools, Long Island Lutheran Middle & High School (LuHi). The magnanimous heart of the Principal, Wanda Walters, cannot go without mention. I am in awe how she manages the needs of her staff, students and parents alike. Throughout the entire time that my daughter went to school at Grace Lutheran, I consistently observed Ms. Walters greeting and encouraging students as they entered the school to begin their day. Ms. Walters approaches her tasks with the highest level of professionalism possible. She is so dedicated that she makes it a point to know each child by name as well as the family and any issues that may affect that child's performance and/or behavior. I have observed her undertaking the role of surrogate parent and administrator simultaneously to meet the need of the moment. The Director of Admissions and Master Educator, Ms Pattyann Dombrowski is as equally anointed and dedicated to growing the cognitive abilities of the little ones under her charge as well as their tender souls. She is the "Pied Piper" of love and the children absolutely are drawn to the Spirit of God that emanates from her very being. My daughter was so well taken care of while at Grace that she became a Community Service Volunteer there throughout high school & recently had her first paid job experience there this summer. Brianna is now studying to become a School Psychologist at North Carolina A&T and I know it is a direct result from the stellar educational experience that she received from Grace Lutheran Day School. I attended Grace Lutheran Church and School from Kindergarten through 6th grade. This school shapes young minds including my own and continues to show the utmost kindness and respect to all of their students and families. This school has a saying, "Grace is the Place." With teachers continuing to challenge their students with proper guidance under the direction of Principal Wanda Walters, this school has amazing resources to help your child continue to achieve their utmost potential throughout their development. After graduating Grace Lutheran, I continued to excel in my academic studies. Each year after graduating, I have visited and volunteered to see old teachers and reminisce on some of the best years of my life. I am now 23 years old, employed, and BLESSED. I would not recommend this School to my worst enemy. Not prepared to handle black male students. Principal is more concerned about her staff than she is the student. The faculty is petty and retaliatory towards students. Technology is practically non existent. Children are not allowed to be children. Unrealistic expectations. Not a true Christian environment. They throw away kids in the middle of the school year leaving parents in a bind. No diversity in the full time teaching staff. Can not afford to pay quality teachers. No positive male role models on the teaching staff. If you live in the Malverne School district take advantage of Maurice Downing. Equipped and will to do what is best for your child. After speaking to family, friends, and neighbors about preschools Grace Lutheran was the most recommended. When viewing the school I was immediately welcomed with warmth. My daughter is in the 3 year old program and comes home every day singing dancing and loving school more than ever. My husband and I could not be more pleased with the growth our daughter has shown since September. I feel comfortable leaving her in the care of the loving educated teachers and staff. I was hesitant about sending my 3year to nursery school. Grace was recommended to me and from the minute I walked threw the doors I felt the warm and loving environment. At that moment I knew I made the right choice. My daughter has learned so much in such a nurturing environment. From school shows to Mother's Day breakfast, you can see the hard work the staff puts in to our children. Shes excited every day she has school to go. I can't say enough about grace Lutheran school I started sending both of my boys at the age of 2 up until pre k . They also will have your child ready for kindergarten. The teachers and all the staff are incredibly caring and trustworthy I am a neurotic mother and wouldn't leave my kids to any but family but grace gave me a sense of security and family . I highly recommend them I know about 20 families who have sent and who still have children here and they also can't say enough ! read more
