Many parents who have children who excel decide to transfer their children to private schools such as Kellenberg, Sacred Heart, Chaminade and Mary Louis Academy. The teachers do little to nothing to challenge the more advanced students, thereby encouraging the parents of the high-performing students to transfer them elsewhere. The baseball field is above average for that of a public school. The hallways and gymnasium, albeit tidy, are a bit outdated. The staff, however, is polite, helpful and very friendly. Numerous students have gone to the office about the same bully and they tell the children they are to busy and in a meeting come back later. Since this has all occurred I have had other parents reach out to me that has a special needs child that gets picked on also and they just keep covering up. VSCH is one of 3 High Schools in Valley Stream. This school boarders the VS State Park which is also beautiful. The school was built many years ago so it still has the classic school look. The instructor of the event was friendly and engaging. The painting was appropriate for the season as we are being hit with a weekend of storms. The culinary chef was kind enough to make an array of finger foods and desserts which were all so tasty, especially the red velvet cheesecake. At the rate that I'm going I should have an art studio in my home or garage lol by the end of the year.

The staff is very warm and welcoming. The children are taught a grade level above what their peers at other schools are being taught. This school is now using ClassDojo and I've been kept abreast of events, updates and even pictures of my little ones throughout the day. I've always been greeted by name by the Principal, Ms. Walters, and my children have never shared a negative thing about their teachers, in fact, they love them.

If this school was located in the city in a low income area, then I would praise this school, but it's not. It's in a town where the residents are paying an average of $6,000. in taxes whether we can afford it or not. The school does just enough to try and satisfy the parents. Keep your game night and all the other crap and teach them chess, piano etc...I take my children to the museum, we talk about favorite books. No not all parents do it, but it's not because they don't want to, they don't have the time. They are working hard trying to pay off the home's TAXES. So my child should be coming home telling about all the new and exciting things they have done. Instead i see the same old stuff i see in every underprivileged school. Just so you know, they seem to spread out all the problem kids, so your child will be in a class with a child that's known to punch, slap or hit other children. What does the principal say ??? LET ME KNOW IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN AND WE WILL REFER THAT CHILD FOR COUNSELING. Ok, that child has been like that since kindergarten, exactly when will he be referred. Just don't go there and believe it compares to the best in Long Island, it's grazing the bottom and will stay there until and overhaul is done.
