    Muffuletta Sandwich w/slaw

Stopped at Red's today thinking we could get brunch, only to find out that the breakfast menu is only offered on weekends. Missed that bit of info on the website. No worries! We had some delicious sandwiches instead. I ordered an Open Faced Turkey Sandwich from the September Special menu. So good! Fresh roast Turkey & stuffing served on grilled Texas toast topped with gravy and served with mashed potatoes & cranberry sauce. It came out hot and I'm not embarrassed to say I ate the whole thing! The other ladies had a Muffuletta Sandwich, aTuna Melt and a Deluxe Roasted Turkey Sandwich. We all enjoyed our meals. We were definitely not rushed. The service we received from Samuel C was very good. The restaurant is large with several rooms. There are high & low top tables. Also bar seating and a patio. Plenty of parking in their private lot.

If you're looking for a relaxed, welcoming spot with great food and an impressive selection of gluten-free options, Friendly Red's in Derry, NH is an absolute win. True to its name, the vibe here is super chill and genuinely friendly--it's the kind of place where you feel right at home the moment you walk in. I've been a couple of times now, and both visits were fantastic. My wife and daughter are both gluten-free, and it's rare to find a place that not only caters to that but does it really well. On one visit, they had the Cobb salad and the baked mac & cheese--yes, gluten-free mac & cheese! Both dishes were a hit. Today, my wife tried the potato skins and chicken fingers (both GF), and she loved them. Bonus points: during happy hour, you can get a sampling of both for just $7. That's a steal. I went with the Reuben Pizza, which is their April special, and it was wicked good. Think classic Reuben flavor on a fresh, soft-yet-crispy crust that's baked to perfection. I'm already plotting my next visit before the month ends just to have it again. It was that good. Bottom line: Friendly Red's has officially won us over. Great food, gluten-free friendly, and a laid-back atmosphere that makes you want to keep coming back. Count me in as a believer.

Okay. Most of you locals have probably already heard the story. But I remember going to this spot as a kid when it was still known as The Derry Restaurant. Seriously, that's what they called it. Kinda meta-prosaic, if you ask me. But, I digress. Today, we'll discuss their modern day replacement known as Friendly Red's Tavern. So, the building got a much needed face-lift which catapulted this granite structure into the 21st century! The metaphoric ghosts of Derry Restaurant's past would be so proud. For now, we get delicious menu options such as the breakfast potato skins, homemade corned beef hash and eggs. And as you may have ascertained, all were at least mostly decent. The potato skins were a particularly original concept I honestly haven't seen done before. Overall, it works...but I wish the eggs were creamier and seasoned. They also give you sour cream, which.....is not something I ever considered pairing with bacon and eggs, but whatevs. The hash was....fine. It's homemade and I prefer the canned version (don't @ me), so I admit this may seem based. Still, it could have used some seasoning as well and been better incorporated into a seamless mixture. The Texas toast was something outta this world. At first, I thought they gave me multigrain toast by mistake. Till I zoomed in and....nope! This is Texas toast alright. Toast....with a Texas tan (I'll...get my coat). Anyways, I give the hash n' eggs a 7 out of 10. But the takeaway here is...if breakfast is this decent, imagine how much potential lies in the dinner menu. I'll definitely return, though precise timing will need to be considered. It's my understanding this place gets hella busy in the evenings and weekend. And you guys know how much ya boy hates a crowd. Friendly Red's Tavern in Derry gets 4 gratefully face-lifted buildings out of 5.

This was our first visit here since they opened, and it will be on our list of regular restaurants to eat at. We were seated and served quickly. I got the California chicken which was awesome, and the wings starter with garlic sauce was great. It was a nice warm evening so we sat outside which was a pleasant time. We'll be back.

Still catching up their original location, nut a good upgrade from the restaurant that used to be there. Nice addition to Derry.

Walking in 7 minutes after opening, this place was already packed. Full of Patriots fans hooping and hollering to the end of the fourth quarter. Every appeared in a merry mood, and everyone knew each other it seems. Service here was great. Our waitress whipped around the room with finesse and speed, working the bar and tables all by herself. She was to the point but pleasant. The beers are ok, but they aren't anything spectacular. An average selection of nearby beers of all varieties. Going to other breweries in New Hampshire, I know that this state can produce good beers. Perhaps they just had a mediocre selection the week I was there. We ordered a medley of items and most of it was hit and miss. In the sampler, the pork cracklings were decent, although dinner pieces were hard to chew since they turned into a dense fried bit. The fries were ok, but standard. The tator tot was actual pretty good, but there's this sweetness and texture that makes me think of pumpkin? That could be upsetting to some. The chicken tenders are ok, but the breading isn't seasoned or exciting in texture. It felt like how I would fry chicken at home with only one coat of breading. The pickle chips were good, even though they were not spicy at all. If they called these paprika coated chips, then I would agree. But texture wise, they were actually crisp and not super watery. The pulled pork tacos are ok, but they rely more on sweet barbeque sauce more than anything else. The tortillas are subpar in flavor, but sturdy enough to hold everything together. The veggies slaw did add some nice acidity though. The wedge salad here is terrible. I should have looked up what others posted before I ordered it. It was a literal wedge of plain iceberg, with all the other ingredients and fixings dumped in the middle. The stuff in the middle was ok, but nothing felt harmonious. Just a bunch of salad ingredients added to a giant paper tray. It felt like a waste of 9 dollars for what was lazy preparation.

TL;DR; Food: Amazing. Service: Amazing. Atmosphere: Amazing…read more The entire place is a retired coach stop for travelers from the south and west, as the name implies. The building has changed hands and purposes over the centuries, but the homeliness has held up. The kids mac and cheese on its own was better than most mac and cheeses, which should speak for itself. I'd say my favorite mac and cheese at a restaurant. I was kind of mad at myself for being so blown away by a kids mac and cheese. I will be back to have the lobster mac as a main based on this alone. I ordered it for my kid, but couldn't stop stealing bites. It's simple - definitely nothing more than quality cheese plus cream and pasta. But cheese choice in a mac and cheese is the most important! The clam chowder was INCREDIBLE. It became my new favorite, and I'm highly picky about clam chowders. The bacon wrapped scallops were drizzled in syrup which was a perfect flavor. Scallops were well cooked. Potato salad had that little acidic kick and was just great overall. Probably top 3 for me. Finally, the bread served as a pallette whetter is crispy and warm, chewy on the inside, with a few slices of pumpkin bread (probably seasonal). Service wise, Danielle was super friendly, did not rush, conversed with us, and without any prompting whatsoever offered to get a completely full and fresh cup of chowder to go rather than just an empty cup to pack away my leftover chowder. Felt SUPER welcomed. We also had a 1.5 yr old and didn't feel alienated. We were seated away from most guests, which I actually feel is a good strategic decision for both them and us. This is superb restaurant management. Overall - 10/10. WILL be back, and soon!

So, we don't expect the food to be the chefs best....too busy for that. Turkey was good, gravy cold. Prime rib was cold, tough and not really edible. I had 2 bites. Mashed potatoes, soup and bread was good. No stuffing. My son got the seafood pasta and he enjoyed it. Waitress was great, not her fault. But, she saw that we didn't eat the prime rib. These were served with a pea and bacon risotto whose rich flavors matched the meatballs perfectly and the accompanying crisped breads balanced texture for the perfect combo. This one wasn't my dish, but I managed to snag a nibble and may be ordering it next time if they decide to add it to the regular menu. So good! The dishes were a nice size, leaving room for desert, and the fresh fruit meringue was an excellent finale. The restaurant itself is small, with a bar and just a handful of indoor tables. They had 4 more tables outside, however, which would be great on slightly cooler days. The indoor window seat we got was comfortable and the whole place had a cozy, friendly feel. Service was top notch, from a greeting as we entered to constant attention - we never really noticed our slightly small (bar style) table as all the dishes were cleared so quickly. That's why our experience this time was such a breath of fresh air. I don't write alot of reviews but this was one I couldn't pass up. Our server Secret was phenomenal. Even though the restaurant was extremely busy, she managed to be both attentive and genuinely warm the entire time. She checked on us at the perfect moments, never rushed us, and somehow made us feel like we were her top priority despite juggling a full restaurant alone. That level of professionalism and energy is rare, and it completely elevated our night. The steak tips were, as always, incredible, and the espresso martinis were spot-on -- but the star of the evening was our server. Her attentive, upbeat, and downright impressive service is exactly what this place has been needing. She turned what is normally a "we come for the food" visit into a truly memorable dining experience. We'll definitely be back (those steak tips guarantee it!), but now we'll be hoping we're lucky enough to get her again. She's an absolute gem.
