This review is for the ube donut. If you're Filipino and you hear these words "ube" and "donut" together, your taste buds start fantasizing. So, to fulfill our fantasy, hubby and I did not hesitate to drive 30 mins for those ube donuts. I must say presentation wise, definitely looks delish. However, as soon as it touched my taste buds, anticipating to dance for joy,...had to give another bite, and another hoping to taste the ube, but I really could not taste it at all. Donut itself was good - crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside with not too overpowering sweetness to it. But still lacking the Ube taste, which kinda defeats the purpose of calling it "ube" donut... DO NOT GO FOR THE UBE DONUTS. You will be severely disappointed. My boyfriend and I went supper excited to try some even though the drive was out of our way. To our surprise they weren't as expensive as I thought, although we also got a cronut or dossant and those were around $4. The ube donut tastes nothing like ube. Even it if it still tasted good, it's not worth it at all when most donuts are generally good. The cronut was absolutely delicious though. I'll give them that. Eh, I hate to give this place a 2 stars especially since they are my fellow Filipino business owners but it was hard to argue. Heard about the rave of the ube donuts and being filipino, it was a must try. Came on a Friday night around 11ish and the ube donuts were 1.50 each....eh price was about average for a "gourmet" donut. I didnt have much cash at the time and they did have an ATM there but i wasn't down for the service charge so i only ordered 2 ube donuts. I have to be honest, I was very disappointed with them. I did not taste ube what so ever. Tasted a lot of oil and no ube. The donut was cold to which could of played a factor but my girlfriend said she tasted a mild flavor while i tasted none. I honestly only came to try the ube donuts because i live fairly close to M&M and Donuttery and their flavors were the same. I may try this place again if I'm ever in the area but it is not that good. My expectations may have been too high for this place because Instagram hyped it up but sorry, at least give some sort of ube taste. Place has a good selection of donuts which is a plus. I've died and gone to donut heaven. Holy hell. These are probably the best donuts I've ever had. I am noting that I got them at 7:30 a.m., which means they were super fresh, melt-in-your mouth perfection. But who buys donuts at 3 p.m. anyway? Jk. Yeah me - nooo, what? The dossants were exquisitely beautiful - like porcelain dolls in a china cabinet that you wanted to play dress up with and have make-believe tea. But push come to shove, they were average and the glaze shattered when you broke through the flaky layers. So, if you're debating whether or not to get the cream filled dossant versus the simply glazed, treat yoself and go with the filled. Believe the UBE hype. Finally tried the ube donut today. I was greeted by some friendly employees. Saw a nice variety of donuts and filled crescents. They sell dossants (crescent-donut hybrid) like a Cronut but they already sold out of them at 10:30am. I was excited to see the ube donuts. I love ube and pretty much anything with ube in it. The donut was pretty with a slightly crunchy exterior. Moist donut with great texture. It was actually a good donut but didn't taste like ube. Tasted more like a light blueberry flavor. Maybe they don't know what ube is supposed to taste like there. I think they should add more ube (whether fresh or flavor extract). Otherwise, they might as well be called blueberry donuts. Worst service ever, be careful to check your recipe if you buy more than a dozen. Today was my second time there and I was disappointed. I was there last Wednesday because my daughter said there were Mochi Donuts Close to our house. I spent over 42.00 dollars without checking my receipt. The store is very old & small but very pricey compared to better gourmet donut shops. We go to DK donuts because it close to our house n think DK donut is much better then here. I went back for the second time today. Not only did the lady ask me to give Back the one donnut hole she accidentally gave me but she also charged 7.75 dollars of 6 donut holes which in my opinion is over priced for bad donuts. If I didn't check my receipt I wouldn't have found out. Also, there is a fee charge for using the card, the lady charged me almost 2 dollars for transaction fee. Stopped by this place at 2AM because my friend and I were just feeling something sweet. It's very quaint and small, but they sure have a lot of menu items from a wide variety of donuts, dossants (croissant/donut hybrids), and donut holes to a multitude of hot and cold drinks, etc. But whatever I'm here for one item and one item only: the strawberry dossant with vanilla creme. It definitely caught my eye on yelp and I just had to fulfill my craving. It was pretty good, though a little underwhelming. Flaky, buttery layers with creme and strawberries in the middle were pretty good, but my strawberry on top was very old and bruised, not very appetizing to eat or look at, and it didn't taste as fresh as it looks. When you check in you get a free cake donut, so it's not a bad place for twilight snack. Today was the official launch of their ube doughnuts..you can get it with their original glaze or the organic blueberry frosting ...we preordered some for the hubby's birthday and although it's a yummy BLUEBERRY GLAZED doughnut...we sadly thought it lacked that ube (purple yam) flavor we were hoping for. I think we were hoping for that distinct flavor you get in an ube flavored cake or ice cream and sadly we barely tasted it here. The maple bacon dossant is fabulous, all their dossants/cronuts are, really. I was introduced to this place thanks to yelp and my wife and I have been hooked ever since. The young man that works here is always super nice and makes sure you leave happy. The donuts they have are all pretty darn good. From the Maple Bacon Dossant to the Blueberry. The strawberry shortcake while may look overly sweet is surprisingly well balanced. Great donuts that are made fresh (some even to order) you really cant go wrong. They have a nice assortment of some crazy fusions. Like the cereal line....fruity pebbles, captain crunch and more. I was so happy to see the vast selection of donuts and cronuts throughout shop and I really couldn't wait to sink my teeth into them! Now that's what William B calls service. It's also a great place for a quick bite for lunch. So much better than other places in central OC that claim to offer gourmade food at extortion type prices. So, I rarely, if ever update a review because I try to give a business the benefit of the doubt, but unfortunately, I cannot say that about friendly donuts. I called friendly donuts yesterday because I needed to place an order for two dozen cereal donuts. I chose to have 12 Fruitloop donuts and 12 fruity pebble donuts. When I called, they were very friendly and let me know pricing over the phone. They charged me $42 if I paid in cash for two dozen donuts. They told me they would be made to order and asked when I would arrive. The order was placed at 10:30 AM and was picked up by me two hours later at 12:30. They told me that they would be ready by 11:30 so the longest they have been sitting there was probably an hour by the time I arrived. The lady opened up both boxes of donuts to present what she was selling to me. Both orders were very aesthetically pleasing. I did not take a bite of any of the donuts considering they were for a work party a couple hours later. She sealed them up and since I checked in on yelp, they gave me a free donut. She also offered me a second free donut if I gave them a positive review(hence my previous short review). I paid, left and drove to my workplace to bring the donuts I had bought. As soon as I got there, I pulled out the donuts for everyone to enjoy and one of the fruit loops had fallen off the donut and was sitting on the side. I picked it up and ate it and the cereal was completely stale. Hoping it was just that one, I did nothing about it so everyone took a donut. I was told by multiple people that the cereal was stale. Most people had pulled off all of the Froot Loops because it was so bad. The fruity pebble's variety seemed to have better luck, but I was still incredibly embarrassed and frustrated that I paid $21 for that dozen only for people to not enjoy them and consume stale food. Since the day was pretty much over, I figured I would give them a call and let them know what had happened the next day. When I called them, I explained everything and the gentleman on the phone tried to convince me that leaving the donuts out for an hour or two would make the cereal taste stale. I reassured him they had not been sitting out in the sun and the box was closed. I also let him know that it was only a couple hours from the time I had picked them up to the time people were eating them. No donuts or toppings should go bad that quickly after being made if the ingredients are fresh. I never told the gentleman I wanted a refund or would like more free donuts. I was simply calling him to let him know that they need to check their ingredients prior to topping their donuts to ensure this doesn't happen to anyone else. He did nothing but give the same excuse over and over again telling me it was my fault that we did not eat them quick enough. He also did not offer any sort of apology or try to make up for it in any way. I wasn't even going to write a yelp review if they had corrected the problem, but after letting them know what had happened, I felt his lack of concern for my dilemma was worth letting people know about so others can avoid a company that overcharges for donuts, gives you a stale product, and does not offer any sort of compensation. I'm not saying this would happen every time, but I guess the lesson here is to check your purchase before you leave. I will not be returning to friendly donuts read more

I had the chance of attending a Yelp event at Friendly Donuts and I've been a customer ever since. I know donuts are the hot new thing to replace the cupcake craze and I'm so on board with that. I love donuts so the fact that they're everywhere and are a little stepped up works out great for me. The first thing I love about Friendly is that the owners have been there for about 20 years. You know it's good if they've been around for that long. I also love that the son is kinda running things now and has embraced the donut craze and gearing the family business up to compete with all the other donut shops out there. Now on to the donuts. They have your basic donut shop donuts such as the maple bar and the glaze twist then they flip it and bust out the fancy shmancy stuff. The cake donut that's topped with fruity pebbles, or the red velvet donut, or (and you must try it) the Ube donut. The Ube donut could quite possibly change your life. Then, they have dossants. You might have heard them called cronuts. I highly recommend you have one of these at some point in your life. It will contain all the calories and sugar you're allowed for the day but you should just do it once and get it out your system. Not only do they have dossants. They have dossants that are topped with whipped cream and strawberries and a few other options that look so tasty you'll have to order one just to see what it's about. Not sure when this place opens up as they currently have signs that say open 24 hours and open at 4am and I am never buying donuts at that time. It is also not in a very nice area so not a place you would want to be at late. Donuts are donuts and I don't think you can really have bad donuts (kinda like pizza). So this place is comparable to most other donut places. When I do order I only get either a chocolate bar or a sugar twist so I can't say how the other donuts taste. I got a dulce de leche and a s'mores and it came out to be more than $9 which seems pricey to me for fried dough. The texture was just off for me. It was hard..not flakey like a crossiant or fluffy like a donut. Just hard.. maybe overcooked with no dulce de leche or s'mores flavor.. Either way I was so disappointed.
