We dropped by Fried Pies after seeing their billboard off of the freeway. We were researching places to eat along our route and there really wasn't much. They are located/connected to a Mobil gas station. The small restaurant has some tables inside a portion of the gas station. They also share a restroom (not the cleanest...). The fried pies are kind of a hybrid of a empanada and a hot pocket. It's a fun concept for an on the go snack. We ordered the Tex Mex, chicken (like a pot pie), and a pecan. The Tex Mex was the best. The chicken was mediocre. I didn't really like the pecan, but my husband loved it. Overall if you are already in the area and need a snack, give Fried Pies a try. On our way out, we noticed that they have a drive thru window in the back. Pretty convenient if you really needed a quick bite to eat.

I have had an 8 year hiatus from getting back to this place. Sadly, it is not exactly what it used to be. While the fruit pies are still delicious, there are two main components now missing... 1) No more savory pies....what a crime. I asked if they had any plans to bring them back...unfortunately no was the answer. 2) Apparently, orders are not prepared when you place it anymore. The guy at the counter said that they are made "same day" now. I did ask specifically if they would make me some fresh, and the timing must have been right because out of my order of 5 pies....he did talk the lady cooking into making me a couple hot ones. The sweet pies are really good but I don't think I'll be making the 20 mile detour without the combination of lunch and dessert.

It's closed. Plywood on the windows. No trespassing signs. Depressing. I always liked that place.

Best thing you have ever put in your mouth. It's a bit of a drive but well worth it. They really should open a couple in Illinois

It doesn't look like a lot on the outside. But their fried pies are delicious and they serve them all day long.

I stopped by and purchased a chocolate hand pie. The crust was made well and was fried in peanut oil. I wish I had one right now

Great food great price. Could use some ice cream on the fruit pies. Then it would be 5 stars.

The staff were friendly as usual and our server was really good and the place is clean as usual! The salmon patties were really good, I'd order them again. The food, overall, seems to be not well mixed with salt. My husband's chicken and dumplings had an inedible layer of just pure salt. He mixed everything up and it was better but the shock of a mouthful of salt lingered for the rest of the meal. The fried potatoes pass around had the same issue. This is still very much so a tourist destination and a once in a blue moon trip for us when we find ourselves in the area. The allure of the "throwed rolls" and pass arounds is enough to keep this place an option for us, especially since we're learning what not to order.

We had the country fried chicken with mashed potatoes and turnip geeens. The turnip greens were so good and my wife said the chicken was very good. I had the fried pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes and okra. All of it was delicious! For dessert we had blueberry lemon cake and coconut cake. Pictures do not to them justice. They were so huge the lid barely closed on the to go box. It was like 1/4 of a cake. We left there stuffed with four to go boxes for two people! Highly recommend!

I've come here because my grandparents from Paris recommended this place as a good 18th birthday dinner spot, and even though they may be just a little crazy, I am so glad I listened to them. The food is outstanding. I tried their Cheesesteak with French Fries, and I didn't even take a picture of it, I was that excited, and it was nothing short of outstanding. You get a lot of it too. If I wasn't a big back I would've had the entire thing for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the same can be said for their dessert cakes. The staff were excellent as well, they were friendly, and certainly helped making our first visit a welcoming experience, and I earnestly hope they are satisfied with working here. If you are a foodie, a travelling foodie, or just someone who just likes going to establishments in towns you don't even know the name of, I tell you now that you NEED to go to this place. P.S. Forget all the other beverages you can have with your food, GRAB THE TEA. Sweet or unsweet, their tea tastes HEAVENLY.
