Well spaced-out tasting room

Nice winery off MD Rte 4 (aka Pennsylvania Ave near the beltway and Southern Maryland Blvd after you cross MD301). Friendly and well informed staff who are the actual owners, relaxed vibes in a rustic tasting room and converted tobacco barn. Not a lot of parking. Reasonable tasting fee (6 wines were available) and well priced wines by the bottle $15-25 (also by the gl

Nothing has changed about Fridays Creek since shawn g. FTR'ed them back in 2009, except there's now a $5 tasting fee, and you can only select six of their 14 wines for sampling. When the six of us expressed our shock at 1) not being able to sample all the wines; and 2) having to pick six on our own, the girl working the counter said we could try all 14 for $10, which we opted to do. Wish we'd just stuck with six. I couldn't describe the wines better than shawn g. did, so I'm gonna plagiarize in the hopes that he subscribes to the old adage "Imitation is the highest form of flattery": Fridays Creeks wines are "too fruit forward, sweet, and acidic." Done and done. *Every* wine we tasted was slightly sweet, semi-sweet, or really sweet. The '08 Traminette smelled a bit like OFF and tasted like eating flowers. The Patio White tasted like grape juice, and the '08 Vidal Blanc like tropical punch. Even the '08 Merlot, '08 Syrah, '08 Old Vine Zinfandel, and '08 Cabernet Sauvignon were sweet and thin, lacking any of the robustness one typically expects from those varietals. I did like the '09 Rubilee, made from a GR 7 Hybrid grape out of Cornell University, a drier '08 Chambourcin, and -- surprisingly -- the Plum wine, since it was more tart than sweet. And so many of the wines are made from juices imported from New York and California...it feels kind of like cheating. The tasting room itself is nice, with an old, barn-like feel true to its original purpose. But my favorite part about the whole tasting experience was browsing the art in the upstairs loft, with pieces created by area artists. Watercolors of ripe tomatoes or rusted-out tractors, oil paintings of ducks or lily pads, black-and-white photo triptychs of farm scenes, colorful weavings, ceramic owls, stone jewelry. A great idea for wineries and local artists to partner up. Instead of purchasing any wines, we bought a ceramic tile featuring a small duck. Win!

You pay for a band and the cost for all the tasting of the wines was just $25.00 which is actually not a bad price. They had numerous wine vendors i want to say about 12 or more. They also had tables with tents set up everywhere pretty impressive because we always bring our chairs because we don't know what the seating situation would be. It's not like your typical wine festival where they have more wine vendors but then they have longer lines. The lines here was not bad at all. They had bands performing which I must say was great! They only had about 3 food vendors which I wish they had offered a little more but the one we selected food from was tasty. I had the jerk catfish with 1 side order of plantains. Which was $11.00 not to bad of a price. It was very tasty with a kick! My fiancée had the pulled pork sandwich with a side order of cabbage. The pulled pork was delicious but he said the cabbage was watered down with no flavor. I kind of figured that it would be. Everyone there was very friendly and from what I understand they have a free movie on the beach on Saturday night. Way to go if your a local. I would definitely recommend this location for the wine tasting and we purchased about 4 bottles of wine to go. This is how we do it...

This is still one of my favorite Maryland wineries…read more From the very first visit to my most recent visit, I always enjoy coming to Two Lions. The vbes and the ambiance is really nice. I love that the employees are so engaging including the owners, Callie and Brad, who always stop by to check on patrons no matter how busy things are. I really appreciate this type of customer service. My last visit we tried the mulled wine which was really good. As they described it, it's "Christmas in a cup." I had to get my favorite wine, Lion's Share! I'm sad that they're closing up for the season soon. If you've never been, I believe this upcoming weekend (December 13th and 14th) is their final weekend so make a reservation if you want to go.

I tried flight # 1 with the semi-sweet wines and also added seasonal sangria- blueberry lavender during a girls date. After the flight, I ordered glasses of the Fleur de Lionne and Love and Rose - both were refreshing on a hot day. We ordered the meatball flatbread and pepperoni flatbread, the flatbread was crispy and flavorful. This was the perfect place to enjoy wine, the outdoor area and tasting room make it feel like a nice staycation. Callie and her team provide a great experience, I will definitely be back.

What a great experience. We went for the tour and tasting on a sat afternoon. The property is off…read morethe beaten path and if you blink you'll miss it, but it's picturesque like most wineries are. We were greeted and seated in their back room, and presented with 4 glasses and a charcuterie board (some of the items on the board can be purchased there). Our host was nice, and we got to sample 4 wines (one white, two reds and a dessert/port red). If I'm being honest, the wine was okay...I've come to have low standards for Maryland wine and this was on par. So to recap, nice tour, okay wine, good charcuterie...and none of these are really the reason for the 5 star. As I was sitting there, a random dude in some regular blue jeans and a pullover walked through the patio door and immediately introduced himself as Tom and shook my hand. It wasn't until he made it two more people down that I realized it wasn't a regular dude, but Tom the owner. Tom made his way around the table, then stood at the end of the table and started talking. The more he talked the more it became clear that this wasn't some random rant or rehearsed speech, it was a man who allowed himself to become immersed in his passion right in front of us. I won't say what he talked about because it would ruin it for you if you go and get the chance to meet him (here's a hint, ask him how his past brought him to present), but those 11-13 minutes made the outing worth it and then some. Everyone at the table was fascinated by him and inquired if he planned to host Ted talks in the future. And just as casually as he entered the room, he left. I watched him walk down the road (probably back to his house), just being a regular dude, even though he is anything but.
