It's not like your typical wine festival where they have more wine vendors but then they have longer lines. The lines here was not bad at all. They had bands performing which I must say was great! They only had about 3 food vendors which I wish they had offered a little more but the one we selected food from was tasty. I had the jerk catfish with 1 side order of plantains. Which was $11.00 not to bad of a price. It was very tasty with a kick! My fiancée had the pulled pork sandwich with a side order of cabbage. The pulled pork was delicious but he said the cabbage was watered down with no flavor. I kind of figured that it would be. Everyone there was very friendly and from what I understand they have a free movie on the beach on Saturday night. Way to go if your a local. The water comes from a glass bottle with a cork that you pour at your leisure. When we were there, on a Saturday afternoon, there wasn't any live music and it wasn't loud but wasn't uncomfortably quiet either. The prices seemed pretty reasonable as well. I saw three dogs and the outside portion appears to be dog friendly! All in all I would absolutely go back! But for the vibes and atmosphere and not because the drinks were anything special. There were no events on this day, but Layton's Chance does hold many events throughout the year that appear to be very popular. I noticed some of their upcoming holiday functions are already sold out. After finishing our flights it was on to the much raved about wine slushies. You can get small (12oz) or large (16 oz). It is with good reason the slushies are mentioned a lot in the reviews. Oh my they are delicious!!! The featured flavors on our visit were peach bellini and one made with the Freedom wine. Of course we capped off the visit with some bottles to take home and the mix to make the slushies.

As I was sitting there, a random dude in some regular blue jeans and a pullover walked through the patio door and immediately introduced himself as Tom and shook my hand. It wasn't until he made it two more people down that I realized it wasn't a regular dude, but Tom the owner. Tom made his way around the table, then stood at the end of the table and started talking. The more he talked the more it became clear that this wasn't some random rant or rehearsed speech, it was a man who allowed himself to become immersed in his passion right in front of us. I won't say what he talked about because it would ruin it for you if you go and get the chance to meet him (here's a hint, ask him how his past brought him to present), but those 11-13 minutes made the outing worth it and then some. We really didn't have a plan for this sunny Sunday afternoon. We were just looking for something to do that would let us enjoy a beautiful day. My wife and I love wine and food and decided to see if there was a winery nearby and we found Thanksgiving Winery on the internet purely by chance. We read the reviews and said "OK...what the heck..let's go there" It was a great decision. 40 minutes later we found the Winery tucked back in the woods. The wines, especially their estate red wines were very good and the people were even better. We were invited to sit at the outdoor tables by their tasting room or on their large wrap around porch of the main house to enjoy the view of their vineyards while we sampled their wines. We chose the porch of the house and purchased a 6 wine tasting flight. You can also do single glasses of wine or just buy a bottle to drink. We chose the tasting flight to get a broad sample of what they make. Another good decision. We sat there for 2 1/2 hours sipping their wine and talking with Maureen the owner and Joann who was running the tasting room. The afternoon flew by and before we knew it, I had to take my wife to the airport for her flight back to Michigan. So we purchased a bottle of their outstanding 2019 Red Meritage Reserve wine to take home. I would have bought more if we were driving home instead of flying. We love many wines from the famous large/corporate wineries but it is always extra satisfiying to find a small family place whose wines we can enjoy while supporting a small family business run by passionate people. For the wine, the setting and especially the people I highly recommend a visit to Thanksgiving Farm Winery.
