    Entrance to Layton's Chance

On a beautiful sunny Saturday in October we stopped at Layton's Chance to sit back and enjoy some wine. We each had a flight of six (Vintner's flight and Lazy Day flight) both delivering a couple of good options, but we enjoyed the Lazy Day flight more. The grounds are cute. We found some adirondack chairs to sit back and relax. There's a decent amount of outdoor seating but as it gets more crowded it's a good idea to bring your own chair as recommended on their website. There were no events on this day, but Layton's Chance does hold many events throughout the year that appear to be very popular. I noticed some of their upcoming holiday functions are already sold out. After finishing our flights it was on to the much raved about wine slushies. You can get small (12oz) or large (16 oz). It is with good reason the slushies are mentioned a lot in the reviews. Oh my they are delicious!!! The featured flavors on our visit were peach bellini and one made with the Freedom wine. Of course we capped off the visit with some bottles to take home and the mix to make the slushies.

Beautiful location and a nice stop for a relaxing wine tasting. There is a patio to relax and enjoy although it can get noisy as it does attract families with children as there is a playground area on the lawn. We enjoyed the stroll along the nature trail and we saw a bald eagle flying overhead. The service was very friendly and welcoming.

I loved this place! The wine flight we tried was perfect but the frozen wine was the winner! If I ever want to get away for the day I'll be going straight to Laytons!

Stopped in with friends on the way back from OC. If you're a lover of sweet wines then this is the perfect spot for you. I'm just in love with this place because they put Harriet Tubman on the bottle!

Coming from California, you are used to having an overwhelming amount of good to great wine literally in your backyard. Out on the East Coast, you have to work a little harder to find good local wine, but Layton's Chance is a good option for those interested in traditional East Coast style wine. The winery is a bit off the beaten path, but is a relatively quick diversion heading to Ocean City and beyond. The winery and building are very nice with a classic seaside look. You are offered a small or large tasting option depending on your preference and designated driver situation. I sampled a few local options including a Norton and watermelon wine that made it into my bag at the end of the visit. There are plenty of options for sweet and dry wine lovers including those great local styles that thrive in the coastal mid-Atlantic. This is not Napa. That said, if you enjoy wine, you will probably enjoy a stop here. It is perfect for buying some great bottles heading to your summer beach house or even just packing the cellar back in the District. Be careful with navigation leading you too far away; just follow the signs and enjoy the wine!

    Nice little pit stop!

Found this place by chance due to too much traffic - pulled over from a road trip! This place is beautiful! My boyfriend and I got to enjoy about 8 of the sweet wines ("bo berry" was my favorite - Bought a bottle before we left!). Lots of parking available and such a beautiful area too.

I try not to be a wine snob ... but it's a sweet wine tour bus type of place. Just not my taste. Staff was very friendly and nice.

Incredible experience, and I would highly recommend for a special night out. Our server fully…read moreexplained the menu options. There was more than enough food for four people. We started with the cheese board and the crab dip. ( more bread or crackers for the crab and cheese board would have been nice) We moved on to the cheese fondue with one skewer of protein per person. 2 chicken and two scallops. My son found the chicken cooked enough, I found it a tad undercooked. The cheese fondue was very good, but I think it was "split" giving it a slightly lumpy texture. There were plenty of potatoes and veggies for four on the platter. We HAD to have dessert, but as stuffed as we were , we ordered for 2. There was more than enough for 4. The melted chocolate was divine!!! We all loved it and will be back again. It was a wonderful evening.

It was not clear on the website when making reservations that the menus posted were not for the igloos. Even items we asked about on the menus provided were not available (menu said available until 3 pm in igloo, it was 200 but still told no- yet we also couldn't get the steak or rockfish in the igloo. As well, previous igloo visit options provided fondue for 2 (not 5!) and could be altered for one meat and one seafood eater however this time we would've had to at $240 to get both. At minimum $120+$10-$12 extra to add one skewer. Although the ambiance is an "experience" it was not a satisfying culinary experience. As well, it was not clear we couldn't divide our checks up amongst each couple as most all restaurants can do. (Can only do 2 checks, we had 3 couples) It was more cumbersome on the waitress and us than just charging each couple one bill, we weren't sharing food or said put half this on each etc. it was clearly just 3 couples. As for what we did get... if crab dip hadn't had a shell in it I wouldn't have believed it had any crab in it, just cheese flavor. Steak skewer was well done (no choice given) yet veggies were aldente (to say the least). Wine was good but limited selection. I really don't understand why I can eat one think inside yet can't 20' away we would've had a much better experience if some accommodating had been offered on any of the above issues.

All of them were good. They produce mostly dry wines, but also had a few sweet ones on their list. Each flight consisted of five types, with a wine glass to take home. Maryland wine has been hit or miss for me, so I entered without any expectations. So you'll understand how thrilled I was to learn that for despite being small-ish, the wines were above par. The wines are an eclectic mix of styles; partially because they recently purchased a neighboring vineyard/winery and inherited their stock. Now at 20 acres of vines they aren't so tiny anymore, and (as long as the old stocks last) they have an array of wines which should fit most palates. I enjoyed the steel & oak-blended Chardonnay, but my favorite were the red blends which used Italian varietals. One with 60% Sangiovese/30% Barbera/10% Petit Verdot was particularly good! I've never been there, but they are also famous for a hot air balloon event every year. Worth checking out next time!
