Great deals on great merchandise . I have a hunch that it's all Costco display items , and demo units.

Hollywood 42nd Street Station

Hollywood 42nd Street Station

The 42nd Street Station in the Hollywood District is further proof that you can live in a city your…read moreentire life, and still be unaware of many of its hidden secrets. Heck, I can't even say that this IS a secret to anyone but myself, so I may be the only one in town who was missing out...until this last weekend, anyway. It was a TikTok video, of all things, that pointed us to the deli within (Aunt Tillie's), but from there, after downing a couple of sammies, we had the pleasure of checking out the various shops (many of which seem to have...let's say...eclectic and unstable operating hours), but are still fun to browse: a vintage store, a Himalayan goods store, and others. But the real draw is the antique "mall" co/op running in the basement: a sprawling labyrinth of curated collections of the riches of yesteryear, laid out in such a way to maximize foot traffic, and capture the attention of eye and mind: vintage clothing, furniture, home décor, movies, comics, collectibles, personal items, books, postcards and a whole lot more: enough to keep a treasure hunter like me busy poking around for quite a while! I wish there were more places like this, but based on the fact that I didn't know this existed until two days ago, perhaps there are! Time to get back out there, and start exploring, because I'm obviously slacking a bit!

This quirky little shopping center, which isn't t really a shopping center but a dozen shops of…read morevarious types under one roof, is a staple in NE Hollywood. Located one block east of NE Sandy and the iconic Hollywood Theatre, the large light blue sign that says 42 Station is also iconic for this neighborhood. This place hasn't changed in the 20 years I've lived in Portland and it needed a facelift 20 years ago! But you aren't here for the aesthetics, your here to visit one of the 7 or 8 shops. Or Antique Valley on the lower level; a large space of multiple vendors selling their wares. The primary reason I come here is the Postal Annex. It's just so convenient with parking on the street out front and friendly service, Even though I've moved to SW I still come here frequently. They only accept cash so be forewarned. The 2nd reason I come is Aunt Tillie's Deli. If I'm here during lunch hours or need a sandwich for a picnic, this is the place! They make a delicious and satisfying sandwich and homemade soups that hit the spot! I used to visit Linda's Upholstery whenever I needed custom pillows, a seat cushion or a couch completely redone but she is no longer there. Bummer. She is the master of her craft and affordable. The Himalayan Gift store, located on the left when you walk in, never seems to have anyone there, but they are still in business. They sell clothing, candles, souvenirs and other very miscellaneous items. There is also a hair salon, another antique shop and a Nordic Home shop on the first floor. When I say shop, we are talking a very, very small footprint. The size of a small bedroom. Like I said, The 42nd Street Station is an unusual blend of stores under one roof that fits right into this neighborhood. It's not a destination or a place for out of neighborhood folks, but for those who do live nearby or did, like me, it's an essential part of the community.

What I expected to be another simple evening of trading card negotiations ended up being pretty…read moredisappointing. I've supported this shop for a long time, and they've supported my passion for the Pokémon TCG. I can literally see cards I once traded in sitting in their binders and display cases. But reflecting on my most recent visit, there are two issues that really stand out. 1. Trade-In and Cash Value Are Low The percentages they offer for both cash and trade are noticeably lower than other shops. A competitor priced the same cards roughly 30% higher--the only reason I didn't go with them that day was because their cash flow was low and they couldn't pay out at the time. That discrepancy alone is frustrating. 2. Staffing & Negotiation Have Become Inconsistent In the past, staff have always treated me respectfully. They weren't rude this time either, but historically they've been fair with negotiation--occasionally offering a small discount or working closer to market value. This time, that didn't happen. They insisted on giving "market value" for just one card and then even less percentage for the rest. I asked for around 40%, and we eventually agreed on a deal involving a $10 card. But at the last minute, I was pressured into dropping the deal by another ~5% "so everyone's happy." The truth is, I wasn't -- especially considering I was already accepting a lower percentage just to make the deal work. If I'm a regular customer, I don't expect special treatment, but I do expect fair negotiation. I wasn't even met in the middle at 35% on a $220 value. Bottom Line: If you're looking for a solid selection of cards and okay pricing, this shop is fine. But if you're interested in selling or trading, I'd strongly recommend going elsewhere. Unfortunately, the stereotype about some hobby shops being cut-throat with trade-ins feels pretty accurate here.

The two guys who work in the day are very friendly and chatty. I popped in to browse their pokemon collection. They had a good collection of packs and a few boxes. I've been to other card stores that didn't have nearly as many. I was there just to browse, but the guys working were more than happy to entertain me and answer any questions I had and also show me everything they had that might interest me.

OMG, were these good! I just had to give a review of Trader Joe's at the store where she purchased them. Get this the price was like just $3.49 or something like that. These 4 tarts in a box, so that's like less than $1.00 each. Just heat them up in the oven for 1/2 hour and they're ready! I just had to check out Trader Joe's and see them for myself and maybe get a box or two to heat up at the hotel for later. I think there's an oven I can use or last resort the microwave in the room. It took a little searching the frozen aisles to find them, but I did. I checked, there's like 4 Trader Joe's just in the Portland area. You gotta really try these things.

Shopping in Hollywood, Oregon…read more.. This was our first stop in Portland. We were really looking for those canvas tote bags with the lavender-colored handles. Unfortunately, they were limited edition and were sold out. Gosh... Since we were there, we got a turkey apple arugula cheese sandwich, juice, salami, and more greeting cards... LOL! We were able to use the convenient restroom (we had to get the code for the door from the manager who was wearing a Hawaiian shirt) and appreciated the friendly service and free shared parking! Thanks for the beautifully decorated environment, and attractive displays!
