We've been clients of Frey's off and on for the past several years. We've enjoyed all of our interactions with the staff and veterinarians, and in general couldn't have had more positive experiences. We never felt up- sold here and the veterinarians were always conservative when it came to treatment plans. Not once did we ever feel rushed during a pet exam and no question was a dumb question. If one of our pets was sick, we were always seen the same day. I do believe they really try their hardest to squeeze you in for an appointment even on their busiest days. Having a sick pet is stressful, and rest assured staff know this. If I had a question or concern that didn't warrant and immediate response or a physical visit I would send an email. Within 24 hours or so I would always get an email reply or a phone call with an answer. Yes, really. They also make it a priority to call you after a pet visit. I can't imagine how busy the Dr.'s must be, yet they still manage to do this. Frey Pet Hospital is a beautiful facility, clean, has ample parking, large waiting areas for both cat and dog families and offers convenient hours. Be open to seeing more than one veterinarian, as you may not always have the opportunity to see the same Dr. All of our family members use Frey for their pet care needs (and there have been some major ones!). Suffice to say, Frey will be our first choice for veterinarian care when we decide to rescue again. Adopt don't shop! read more

Is Frey a little expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. We adopted our first dog from Last Hope a couple years ago. Last Hope worked with Critter Crusaders (both local nonprofits) to get his surgery on a broken front leg. That surgery was done at Frey and how wonderful that a fancy place like Frey works with local nonprofits. And our dog's surgery went very well. Fast forward 3 years to now, we still take dog #1 to Frey, and we just recently rescued dog #2, so she also goes to Frey. She had surgery just today and Dr. Steen has been amazing - called us before surgery to talk us through the procedure. Called us after anesthesia to update. Called right after surgery to update again. The front desk staff and the techs and vets are also wonderful. They treat our dogs and us so kindly and never get irritated with our questions. Dr. Kathy Koopman took care of our dog for the last 12 years and worked very hard to diagnose his atypical condition. She spent hours making sure we had all the information we needed to care for him as best we could. And when it came time to say goodbye, the compassion from her and the rest of the staff helped make our extremely difficult decision one we were confident was the right one for the smallest member of our family. A while back, I had seen a post to a local Facebook group, asking for recommendations for a vet for a surgery. I took note of the fact that most of the people seemed to be recommending Frey, since I have two dogs, and I had never heard of Frey. One of my two dogs, Lexie, follows my four year-old son everywhere he goes. When my son spends an extended period with his mother, Lexie gets depressed, and spends most of her time hiding under the bed. So, when my son went to New York with his mother, I didn't think much of the fact that Lexie seemed to be avoiding me. When my son came home, and Lexie still only wanted to hide under the bed, I was worried. Upon investigating, what I found scared the heck out of me. Somehow, her eye had been popped out of it's socket. Without her being able to blink, her eye had been slowly dying. I couldn't even think. I took her to an emergency vet, who cleaned everything up and got her on pain medication and antibiotics. I called Frey as soon as they opened, and they were able to do the surgery that same day. They took amazing care of Lexie, and were incredibly patient with me, given that I was mentally vacant from the stress of the situation. read more

I highly recommend this vet to anyone is need of animal care. The veterinarian who performed surgery on my kitten was so kind and made sure all my questions were answered. The ladies behind the front desk and answering the calls were also very kind. I called to get a quote for the surgery and asked some more questions, which were answered right away. I was charged a very reasonable price, which was within the quote range I was given. And the sweetest part of all was the letter I was given when I picked my kitten up after her surgery; the letter was "written" by her! So dang cute. I have been using Frey's Pet hospital for nearly 10 years. Dr Koopman is our regular vet. She is gentle with my cats, actively listens and allows ample time for each visit. I have seen Drs Steen, Reierson, and Feuerbach as well.Each doctor has taken the time to listen, asked questions, and given feedback. Their support staff is efficient, considerate, helpful, professional without giving off that air of being rushed or cold. Very warm and friendly. The staff is very helpful and educated here. Everything is clean and the layout is very well thought out. They have a dog side and a cat side! This is a great idea for a veterinary waiting room. One of my cats turns into a huge, angry, fluff ball every time he has to go to the vet and this feature helps reduce stress for him. He doesn't have to worry about being sniffed at and harassed by dogs while waiting. I have been going here for years after being disappointed and at times appalled by other vetranary clinics. These people are all true animal lovers and you can tell. I had a labradoodle who passed about 6 months back. They were very sympathetic and allowed me to bring him in the back door so I didn't have to discuss his cremation in front of everyone in the waiting room and even sent a sympathy card shortly after. They are very thoughtful, caring, and understanding. Recently I adopted a puppy. Beings every dog I've had in my life were full grown when I got them I was totally clueless on puppy mothering. The vet assistant went through a PowerPoint presentation with me and narrated it. She also had a lot of very helpful advice and fun facts to share. I have had pets my whole life and been to just about every vet in the Cedar Rapids area until I finally stumbled upon Frey. This place is absolutely amazing compared to everywhere else. read more

Whenever I see my friends asking about the least expensive place to take their pet, I cringe a little. I've always had a firm belief that if you cannot afford a pet, you should not have one at all. I am a single mom and I do not have a high salary by any means, but I always have and always will choose Frey Pet Hospital for my animals care. They are thorough, kind, honest and always willing to work hard to get your pet in if there is something wrong. My poor kitty stopped going potty and then starting going outside of the litter box. They got me in that day, did a urine sample, gave an injectable antibiotic and sent us on our way. I even got a follow up phone call. I have also taken my elderly or sick pets here when it was their time to head to the Rainbow Bridge. We put our hamster that got cancer down here! You have never experienced such warmth and compassion from a group of strangers. One tech shed a tear as my daughters heart broke when we had to put our sick little Meeka Kat down.... She apologized and said, "I'm so sorry for getting emotional... You remind me so much of my daughter and I am so sorry that you are hurting right now." They are not a care factory... They care for you and your pets well being. They get to know you and your pet and they become a sort of extended family whenever your pet needs to be seen. Pick Frey. When we have had to use other clinics for emergency care, they still call for a follow-up to make sure everything is ok and to schedule any further appointments. I would give them 0 stars. I had a very poor experience with this vet. They were very expensive. The staff acted afraid of my large breed dog even though he was muzzled because he is fearful. The vet refused to remove a growth off of my dogs foot resulting in my having to do extensive home care. He barely looked in his ears and less than two weeks later my dog has a serious problem with his ears and they wanted to charge me an additional $150 to look at his ears again. They attempted to clip his nails and brought in the powder to stop the bleeding if they clip too close before they even started. On the second nail they clipped too close and hurt my dog and he tried to bite them, but I had him muzzled. When my dog tried to make friends with the tech who hurt him, she was rude and refused to let him make up with her when she is the one who didn't know what she was doing and caused him great pain. Never again!! Now my dog will probably be even more fearful of the vet. I wish I would have never gone there. read more

I have been taking pets to Frey Pet Hospital for about 12 years now, and I will not go anywhere else!!! There simply aren't enough stars!!! They have helped me through everyday health maintenance, minor health issues, and major health issues with surgery, and even losing my beloved pets. I really feel like they get to know the families of the pets they care for and have treated my pets and myself as if we were family. I trust them completely with suggestions for treatments, without ever feeling persuaded. They tell me clearly what they might consider if it were their pet, and I know that to be true. They ALWAYS find a way to get my pets seen promptly when things come up, and are always friendly about doing so. Their state of the art facilities are second to none, and the care and compassion you feel from the moment you walk in at reception, to the technicians and veterinarians who take so much time with you, simply cannot be matched. I've read some reviews on pricing, and since I've been using their services for so long, I honestly don't know about other pricing in the area. To be honest, I don't care. I feel that I get every penny's worth spent for the quality of care that my pets receive there...and then some!!! read more

Only then were we told that it is an additional $225 per round of shots every 8 months and that it has no end. Would have never started the process if that was the case. I absolutely recommend this place. I have two cats, Fallon and Abbie, that I take to them. I have seen 2 different vets there now and both were so great. I found out about them just through looking up vet clinics online in Cedar Rapids after I had decided that I did not want to drive out of town anymore to go to a different place. It's a long story, but I think it is one worth telling to show how great they were... I had to make a fairly quick decision when Abbie started acting weird and I needed to take her in somewhere. I saw Dr. Feuerbach, who ended up doing a swab (which she did not charge me for) and Abbie was treated for a UTI to see if that would help. She was fine for a day or two, but then started acting the same way again. I made another appointment for her and explained the situation. Dr. Feuerbach contacted me before the appointment and asked if I would be able to get a video of Abbie's behavior on my phone and email it to her so that she could look at it before the appointment. I sent the video to her and she also showed it to some other people there. She was convinced that Abbie was in heat, which should have been impossible since she was spayed before I adopted her. We ended up finding out that she had a botched spay surgery and half of her reproductive system was left behind. Dr. Feuerbach called me personally throughout the whole process, took pictures without me asking so that I would have proof, talked to the clinic that did the original spay surgery and sent them all of her records. She was there to help me until everything was resolved. Everyone at Frey was so genuinely caring and being a first time cat owner, they helped me with a million questions. I am so incredibly grateful to them for helping me in that situation and have continued to receive the same great service for routine appointments. Abbie loves going there to socialize with everyone! read more
