I would not recommend this vet office. We have been long-standing clients of this office with…read moremultiple dogs throughout the years. This place used to be amazing when Dr. Darrow owned and operated the office; however, recently we have not been happy with the services provided. The staff does not know your pet, and you are filtered through different vets most of the time unless you ask to see the same one. We have had several bad experiences of being left in a room waiting for a vet to come in for over an hour, where no one checked on us or informed us of the wait unless we left the room to ask. When we were finally seen, they didn't even acknowledge the wait or apologize at all; horrible customer service. The front desk staff is less than friendly and personable when you are in the waiting room or checking in/out. They claim to answer text messages when you have questions about something to see if you should come in or not - our last text message sat for over a week unanswered until we called them multiple times for answers/an appt; their excuse was that our vet was on vacation. Our dog has been struggling with itchy skin and sores on her feet for well over a year. We have taken her in multiple times, asking what more we can do to get to the root of the issue; they had no answers for us. We felt there was something more going on. They kept masking the issues with meds (allergy and antibiotics/steroids). Even when we asked for more, they claimed our only answer would be to take her to ISU because they didn't know what to do. We took her to get a second opinion at a different local vet, turns out she has a staph infection in her feet/skin that should have been treated long ago. Because the new vet did cultures to get to the root of the issue, we were able to figure it out. Unfortunately, not soon enough; now our dog has to be on 8 weeks of special meds to clear this up when it could have been solved months ago had they just taken the extra steps. I highly advise that, while their prices are reasonable, you do get what you pay for. I would rather go somewhere else and pay more than endure the subpar service and quality that they offer in Anamosa.

I used to work at a kennel with a vet's office and despite being familiar with the spells and people at work, the dogs would always tag team and bite at their old vet. But the first time we met Dr. Hinson she kissed the old chihuahua on the head and he didn't try to hide or fight her. You can tell she really enjoys her job and looks out for both her human and animal clients. She takes the time to answer every concern and calls personally to check up after visits-even just for vaccination reactions. We lost one of our girls this year to cancer, and it was really helpful to be aware of all the possibilities with her diagnosis. Our dog was able to live the last 6 months of her life with a better quality of life with more joy and comfort. As for the rest of the staff- they are always kind and pleasant. And the facility is clean. I felt the need to finally write a review after 3 years as a client after I got my dog back earlier this week. Someone shaved my dog's leg for an IV catheter and it was done in a way that it didn't injure her little old lady mole. That's the quality of care you can expect from TCAH.

A Dane Heeler his name is Stormy but I call him Smalls he was found under a bridge downtown. I thank God for him everyday. He came just in time my service dog Wishbone was almost done done. Within 2 weeks Wishbone was gone and Stormy had to step up for duty before training even started. Smalls hit a home run! His hart is bigger than he's ever gunna get. Safe, sound, and resting peacefully (Pictured below in her favourite spot). Note: We were able to snag someone's cancellation by calling on Monday. Otherwise, it appears appointments are a month + out as of 3/2022. Intake was amazing as staff met everyone coming in that day at the door and assisted with initial paperwork. Our kitty was just past her follow-up shot regimen for rabies and distemper, which the clinic provided at a minimal cost. Overall, our bill was just over 90$ which included nail trimming/capping (10$), shots, spaying, pain medication, overnight stay, as well as a microchipping fee (25$). This is far, far less then the range of prices we were quoted at other local animal veterinarian/hospitals. (Anywhere from 250$ to 1050$, just to *spay* alone.) Although a bit of a drive for those living in Hiawatha/Marion/North CR, the cost and level of care make it worth your time. If you choose to utilize IHA for your pet healthcare needs, please be sure to add a little extra when you pay to help keep this local non-profit going.
