I love this place! I've used their services for every animal my family has welcomed. I'm waiting until my newest service dog is 18 months old until he has his visit. A Dane Heeler his name is Stormy but I call him Smalls he was found under a bridge downtown. I thank God for him everyday. He came just in time my service dog Wishbone was almost done done. Within 2 weeks Wishbone was gone and Stormy had to step up for duty before training even started. Smalls hit a home run! His hart is bigger than he's ever gunna get. I can't express enough how awesome IHA is. We scheduled our 1.5 year old grey tabby to be spayed on Tuesday morning, and had her back the following morning. Safe, sound, and resting peacefully (Pictured below in her favourite spot). Note: We were able to snag someone's cancellation by calling on Monday. Otherwise, it appears appointments are a month + out as of 3/2022. Intake was amazing as staff met everyone coming in that day at the door and assisted with initial paperwork. Our kitty was just past her follow-up shot regimen for rabies and distemper, which the clinic provided at a minimal cost. Overall, our bill was just over 90$ which included nail trimming/capping (10$), shots, spaying, pain medication, overnight stay, as well as a microchipping fee (25$). This is far, far less then the range of prices we were quoted at other local animal veterinarian/hospitals. (Anywhere from 250$ to 1050$, just to *spay* alone.) Although a bit of a drive for those living in Hiawatha/Marion/North CR, the cost and level of care make it worth your time. Dog mom here! When it comes to my furbabies, I am willing to spend the necessary money and then some when it comes to proper health care. That being said, I have had some unfortunate and extortionate experiences with vets and animal hospitals and would much prefer to spend the money spoiling my pets :) After being quoted several hundred dollars by my vet (whose care I have been generally satisfied with) to have my dog neutered, I chose to look elsewhere. After reading several reviews, I chose to place my faith in the Iowa Humane Alliance, who would be able to provide the service at a fraction of the price. The waiting list was long (3+ months); however, we lucked out and had a spot open up that same week. We dropped our cutie off at 8 am and he was ready to go by 4. The pickup involved an educational video detailing proper home care, review of medication and home care by one of the staff members, and a number to call 24/7 with any questions or concerns. Take your pets here! Amazingly talented staff and volunteers with immense passion for what they do. I've brought both of my babies and have sent all of our friends (and honestly, anyone who asks) here. They provide low-cost spay/neuter, microchipping, and vaccination services all over the area. They have a variety of education and outreach programs dedicated to animal well-being and work with shelters and vets in other areas to extend access to their services. They also offer TNR classes and materials for people who want to learn how to better serve the stray cats in their communities. read more

We took several feral cats and a couple litters to IHA for spay/neuter and vaccines. We also had our own 7 kitties there. The number of litters they have prevented through their low cost spay/neuter program is astronomical. In the beginning their staff would sometimes work over night to get the clinic set up and running. That is how dedicated they are. That is their purpose, to devote to the many feral colonies out there, a chance to live a life without continual litters. And to the general public, the ability to alter their pets at a very reasonable price. Without IHA. our city and rural areas would be literally over run with mama cats and kittens trying desperately to beat the odds. We needed this clinic badly and thanks to their hard work, it happened. read more

This is a great place! I can't say enough good about them! I live in Independence Iowa and have a feral cat colony out here where I live. (Yes, I feed them!) I've already got 8 spayed/neutered and have 5 more to go. They are so kind to each and every one of them! I've teamed up with ARF and I can't beat the price! It's worth the 40 minute drive to get there! The staff is amazing. Yes, it can get hectic in there when pickup is at 7:00 a.m. but what do you expect for such a busy place. Good people and Great cause but ridiculously busy and be prepared to wait, wait , and wait some more in a super crowded area. Very affordable but if your time is money a more practical vet can be found. If you can find a place to park be ready to cram into the waiting room, don't bring your kids because there's just no room. In November 2013 we took in a foster that we think someone dumped, and the finder could not keep her, she was a Schnauzer mix...figured about 3 or so, poor thing .....we took her to get groomed, to the vet to update her on her shots, microchip and then to Iowa Human Alliance to get her spayed...I did not have to wait for an appointment got right in, brought her in a 8 am, and picked her up around 4:30, got some meds to put around the incision so she wouldn't lick it....never a problem, no return visit, stitches dissolved. Incision pretty much disappeared....Cost $80, great prices, great customer service, and a job well done... I have recommended Iowa Humane Alliance several times to people looking to spay or neuter, microchip or shots...at a reduced rate, with 5 star service !! Thank you RG read more

This is one of the few 5 stars I give businesses. We rescued a dog at 6 months old from Pets Playhouse and immediately brought her in to get spayed. We were able to get an appointment quickly. If you have a dog, you will be asked to have the dog wait in the car until you are called in. For dogs, you can go to the clinic at as early as 730am and complete the paperwork but you won't be called for your dog until 8am or after. Cats are taken in earlier, that is why dogs have to wait in the car. I don't know about cats, but our dog was given a green tattoo on her belly, close to the incision, to indicate she had been spayed. I was told by staff the incision heals so good, afterwards it is difficult to tell if the dog was spayed. We didn't have to take her in a second time since the stitches are absorbed into the body. For the female dog spay, it was $80 and $10 for rabies. Frey Animal Hospital would have been $295 for laser spay surgery, $350 for laparoscopy spay surgery. We dropped off our puppy about 8am(ish) and picked her up at 430pm. No food after midnight the night before. Staff are very nice. When I got there at 730am, there was a lot of people dropping off cats, stray cats, and feral cats to be spayed/neutered. Iowa Humane Alliance provides a wonderful community service by providing low cost spay/neuter for people who otherwise could not afford it . IHA and their staff are providing much needed low cost spay/neuter services for people caring for stray and feral cats and for people who have their own cats, dogs and bunnies. They are efficient and informed and go above and beyond. They have a fantastic veterinarian who has incredible skills, experience and compassion. The executive director and front office staff are the face of IHA to the public. They are kind and patient with all callers and clients. They even have traps for loan for TNR. They offer educational programs (eg how to build feral cat shelters). Even if you don't live in or near Cedar Rapids, it is worth the drive to take advantage of this service! We are SO fortunate to have this clinic. IHA has prevented thousands of unwanted litters in less than a year - their first 10 or so months of operation. read more
